A. Talk time Using extra stress to highlight important words We already know two rules about speaking:
1. Stress nouns, verbs, adjectives and adverbs.
DEBBIE: What do you think of my new camera, Simon?
SIMON: It looks a bit strange. What kind of camera is it?
DEBBIE: A Toyota. SIMON: A Toyota? That’s the name of a
important word in the sentence. Note that you, the speaker, decide what the most important word is.
Ask students to say the following sentence with the stress on a different word each time, and then explain the differences in meaning.
B. Speak up
