2021年高考英语一轮复习第一部分基础知识聚焦 Unit 2 Cloning习题新人教版选修8Ⅰ.阅读理解导学号 01831312(xx·北京市朝阳区第一次综合练习)The United States is known for jazz and blue jeans. Buttravel to Paris and ask your average French citizen aboutAmerican cuisine(烹饪)and he's likely to answer,“McDonalds.”Ask the same thing of any American citizen on any American street and I'm afraid you'd get the same answer, or something close to it.Hamburgers and hotdogs and fries are all fine, but with American malls and other outlets standardizing everything from clothing to food, the sad truth is that American cuisine is being more homogeneous—all the same—no matter where you live. True, many Americans are eating more varied foods these days, but these are largely the cuisines of immigrant groups, and they are quite likely to be affected by homogenization of American cuisine. So what exactly is American cuisine? Well, to some extent it is a reflection of our melting pot culture, meaning that Europeans made huge contributions in the form of wheat, dairy products, pork, beef and poultry. But American cuisine also includes products that once were known only to the New World, including potatoes, corn, pumpkin, sweet potatoes, and peanuts. The one region of the country where you still find all these things in dailyuse is the Deep South. The South lost the Civil War, but children of the southerners are winning the battle to preserve and advance their cooking traditions—and in this case one of the few cuisines can truly be called American, which is why we're pleased to have Low Country cuisine in this issue of food creation. That's right, grits and gravy are back in a big way in cities like Charleston and Savannah. Truth is, they never really left, but up until a decade ago Low Country cuisine was more mon at home than in restaurants. In fact, a large number of tourists now go to the lower Atlantic region in order to experience this extraordinary cuisine for themselves. Time will tell whether Low Country cuisine bees popular in other regions of the country in the way that, say, Italian cuisine has, but it's amazing and heartening to see one of our true cultural treasures enjoying renewed popularity in these increasingly homogeneous times.文章大意:该文是说明文。

【关键字】英语Unit 2 CloningⅠ.阅读理解(2017·泉州高三质量检查)When students read articles about scientific discovery, they learn what worked.Scientists present the methods that got the best result. They often show only the results that are significant and important. What they won't show are the mistakes or failures that came first.Yet sometimes those mistakes pointed the way to success. It can take a long time and many experiments to achieve scientific success.Robbin,16,and Annabelle,15,learned that while working this summer in a biochemistry lab at Stony Brook University in New York. What's more, they learned that failure is not necessarily something to fear.“I like the idea of scientific research,”says Robbin. It's the basis for “every lesson you learn in school and understanding everything you see in life”. This summer,Robbin has been working with Lauren,a chemistry student, who is making new drugs to fight harmful bacteria. At first, the tests made Robbin anxious. She worried that she might be making costly mistakes. But Lauren reassured her that finding out what doesn't work is “just part of the learning process”.With time, the teen got comfortable with the idea that every experiment wouldn't succeed.Annabelle also learned a lot about failure and success. She worked with graduate student Agnieszka Gil.“Sometimes I try something and it takes a while for the experiment to run.”This means that finding out whether Annabelle did something wrong can be a stressful waiting game, because “if you did something wrong you need to do it again”.But she's now learning to be patient and not to expect instant success. In science, figuring out why something failed is what may just put them on the road to success.【语篇解读】在阅读科学发现的文章时,人们往往对科学成就过度关心,其实科学成就往往是建立在无数次失败的基础之上的。

1.What impresses students most in articles about scientific discovery?A.Scientists' achievements.B.The reasons for success.C.The cause of mistakes.D.Stressful process of research.A[细节理解题。
根据第一段的第一句“When students read articles about scientific discovery, they learn what worked.”以及第二段的第一句“It can take a long time and many experiments to achieve scientific success.”可知,学生在阅读科学发现的文章时,对科学成就的印象最为深刻,故A项正确。
]2.What can we learn from the passage?A.Robbin is a graduate student.B.Lauren managed to make new drugs.C.Annabelle learns the value of patience.D.Agnieszka expected instant success.C[推理判断题。

]【导学号:30892233】Ⅱ.阅读填句(2017·沈阳高三检测)Eyes can speakMuch meaning can be conveyed clearly with our eyes,so it is often said that eyes can speak.1. In a bus you may look at a stranger, but not for too long. And if he senses that you are staring at him,he may feel uncomfortable. The same is true in our daily life.If you are stared at for more than necessary, you will look at yourself up and down to see if there is anything wrong with you.2. Eyes do speak, right?Looking too long at someone may seem to be rude and aggressive.3. If a man stares at a woman for more than 10 seconds and refuses to look away from her,his intentions are obvious. He wishes to attract her attention and let her know that he is admiring her. However, when two people are engaged in a conversation, the speaker will only look into the listener's eyes from time to time to make sure that the listener does pay attention to what the former is speaking.4. If a speaker looks at you continuously when speaking as if trying to control you,you will feel awkward.A poor liar usually exposes himself by looking too long at the victim. He wrongly believes that looking straight in the eye is a sign of honest communication.5.Actually,eye contact should be made based on specific relationships and situations.A.On the contrary,it will give him away.B.Do you have such kind of experience?C.That's what normal eye contact is all about.D.Actually,continuous eye contact is limited to lovers only.E.After all, nobody likes to be stared at for quite a long time.F.But things are different when it comes to staring at the opposite sex.G.If nothing goes wrong, you will feel annoyed at being stared at that way.【语篇解读】本文主要举例论证了“眼睛能说话”这一观点。
