You have selected the highest quality protection for your computer today. This unit offers a quiet and compact package with superior performance you can count on. You now own a member of the SSG family which is a proud part of the very reliable and versatile Falcon series of UPS products. This Users Manual is provided with your new SSG unit. It will enhance your understanding of the product and its functions. Read this handbook carefully in the order it is presented prior to operating your unit. This will save you time and effort in your installation and application. The illustrations will also familiarize you with the SSGs operating modes and indications. Always operate the unit within the guidelines and specifications given to maximize the units efficiency and lifetime. Also, your understanding of the product is essential in providing you years of service for your back-up power requirements. Refer to the cross-reference table below to understand which unit corresponds to your particular model number.CROSS REFERENCE TABLE MODEL NUMBER OLD REFERENCE SSG500VA-1 PC500-1IMPORTANT SAFETY INSTRUCTIONS,SAVE THESEINSTRUCTIONS This manual contains important safety instructions that should be followed during installation and maintenance of the UPS and batteries. The SSG SERIES represents the smallest and most compact units of the Falcon (UPS) product line. In the tradition of all Falcon products, it maintains the highest reliability and the most complete on-line, sinewave power protection available. An on-line, sinewave UPS is the only total solution to virtually any power problem. It effectively provides just what it says, Uninterruptible Power. There is no break, transient or glitch in source transfer on a power outage because THERE IS NO TRANSFER.The SSG is engineered with the latest MOSFET/PWM technology for high efficiency and reliability.Refer to the simplified block diagram, Figure 1, for system description. The AC source is rectified and provides energy for the DC - DC Converter and a float charge to a standby Battery. The DC Converter then supplies the power to operate the PWM DC/AC Inverter. During a utility power-loss, the AC rectification and battery charging capabilities of the UPS become inactive. The fully charged battery, however, supplies the necessary power requirement to maintain the remaining system blocks. The SSG on-line topology is unique to other on-line systems in that it is designed to meet the needs of non-linear loads. Your computer, with its switching power supply, is considered a nonlinear load which can be very abusive to most power protection equipment and could decrease its life-expectancy. The SSG is specially devised to accept these loads and protect them efficiently without any of the output waveform degradation common to other UPS.If the unit inadvertently experiences an extreme over temperature situation that causes inverter malfunction, it will switch over to a filtered emergency bypass line to insure continuous power to the computer load. If the unit is overloaded, it will shutdown completely if the overload is not corrected within 15 seconds. The SSG500 offers complete isolation input to output.DC-DCCONVERTERW/ ISOLATIONSSG500 BLOCK DIAGRAMTHE SSG UNITThe following illustrations depict the SSG500 unit. Please reference the SUMMARY OF INDICATORS AND CONTROLS for a further description of the call-outs.1. UPS OUTPUT Continuous power is provided at the UPS output receptacles.Identification Labe l - The SSG500’s model and serial numbers are located here. Always refer to this information during correspondence with the factory.INPUT -. The SSG500 comes with removable line cord.INPUT FUSE - This is the input protection line fuse to the SSG500. It also provides protection to the critical load if on the emergency bypass line.FUSE - This is the output protection fuse to the load.COOLING FAN - This device forces cool air into the SSG500 so it can maintain longer and more efficient operation.STORAGE & INSTALLATIONIf the unit is to be stored, it is recommended to refresh the internal battery at least once every 90 days. To do this, plug the system in, turn the power On/Off switch “ON” and allow to idle for at least 24 hours. The SSG is designed for installation in a protected environment. The system is lightweight and can be easily moved. Some important points to consider when positioning a unit for operation:•A 15A (preferably dedicated) outlet is accessible for the eight foot power cord supplied with the unit. It is not recommended to modify the supplied cord in any way nor should an extension cord of any kind be used.•The cord paths in the system installation should remain clear of foot traffic or anything else that may disturb permanent connection. •The installation site should maintain an ambient air temperature of less than 1 04”F (40”C). When the environment for the system remains cooler during operation, there is less stress on the batteries and the internal electronics.•The air inlets, vents and fan should not be obstructed or blocked in any way. The more breathing space the system has, the cooler it operates.•The air should remain free from excessive dust and chemical fumes.•The unit may be placed on a desktop with your computer equipment or along side the desk or console. It may be placed in any position, except upside down, provided that all the above requirements are maintained.Once a location has been selected and the unit is installed, it is ready for operation. ALLOW AT LEAST 24 HOURS, AFTER THE SYSTEM IS FIRST INSTALLED, TO FULLY CHARGE THE INTERNAL BATTERY TO A MAXIMUM STATE.OPERATIONThe SSG500is very simple to use.•Be sure the power cord is plugged into the nearest available, appropriately rated wall outlet.•Activate the power switch to the “ON” position.•The green AC light illuminates.•The green INV light illuminates.Leave the power switch “ON” and unplug the power cord from the wall. This will simulate a power loss to test battery operation.•The green AC light will shut off.•An intermittent audible alarm will sound. •As time passes in this condition, the battery discharges and when a low battery condition is present, the beep rate increases. The SSG500 will automatically shut itself off to avoid excessive battery discharge- When power returns, normal operation of the UPS resumes without any operator adjustment. The duration of actual battery back-up time and the low battery condition varies depending on the amount of load, charge on the battery, and condition of the battery. See SPECIFICATIONS Section for approximate hold-up times at 100% and 50% loads.Plug the system power cord in again and turn the power switch “OFF”. Turn off the devices you wish to plug into the UPS. Plug them into the outlets labeled UPS OUTPUT at the rear of the SSG500. •Activate the SSG power switch to the “ON” position.•Turn ON each of your devices. If the UPS is overloaded it will beep at a 1one beep per second rate and will shutdown after 10 seconds if the overload is not removed. If the system overheats or the Inverter should fail, the unit automatically transfers the load to a filtered bypass line, sounds a continuous alarm and the red ALM light will illuminate. To escape this condition, the problem must first be corrected then turn the UPS power switch “OFF”, then back “ON”.It is recommended that you leave the SSG power switch “ON” at all times and switch your devices off individually. This will insure that your batteries are always fully charged. The power switch acts as a system ON/OFF switch. When this switch is turned “OFF”, power is lost to the entire unit including all outlets at the rear of the UPS, since the battery circuit is also disabled. An optional switch guard may be ordered for added protection.GENERAL PROVISIONSFALCON® ELECTRIC INC. hereby warrants product shipped under this agreement to be free from defective workmanship for a period of one year following date of shipment. Instrument TubingSelection GuideBulletin 4200-TSOctober 2000Parker Hannifin Corporation Instrum entation Connectors Division P.O. B ox 400004, H untsville, A L 35815-1504Parker’s instrument tube fittings have been designed to work in a wide variety of applications that demand the utmost in product performance. Although Parker’s Instrument tube fittings have been engineered and manufactured to consistently provide this level of reliability, no systems in-tegrity is complete without considering the critical link, tubing. This booklet is intended to assist the designer to properly select and order quality tubing.Proper tube selection and installa-tion, we believe, are key ingredients in building leak-free reliable tubingsystems.General Selection CriteriaThe most important consideration inthe selection of suitable tubing for anyapplication is the compatibility of thetubing material with the media to becontained. Table 1 lists commonmaterials and their associated generalapplication. Table 1 also lists themaximum and minimum operatingtemperature for the various tubingmaterials. In addition, Parker instrumentfittings are designed to work onlike materials. Stainless steelfittings should be used only withstainless steel tubing, aluminumfittings with aluminum tubing, etc.The practice of mixing materials isstrongly discouraged. The onlyexception is brass fittings withcopper tubing.Dissimilar materials in contactmay be susceptible to galvaniccorrosion. Further, differentmaterials have different levels ofhardness, and can adversely affectthe fittings ability to seal on thetubing.TUBINGMATERIAL GENERAL APPLICATION RECOMMENDED TEMPERATURE RANGEStainless Steel High Pressure, High Temperature,Generally Corrosive Media -425°F to 1200°F1 (-255°C to 605°C)Carbon Steel High Pressure, High Temperature Oil,Air, Some Specialty Chemicals -65°F to 800°F2 (-55°C to 425°C)Copper Low Temperature, Low Pressure Water,Oil, Air-40°F to 400°F (-40°C to 205°C)Aluminum Low Temperature, Low Pressure Water,Oil, Air, Some Specialty Chemicals-40°F to 400°F (-40°C to 205°C)Monel 400 Recommended for Sour Gas Applications.Well Suited for Marine and General ChemicalProcessing Applications-400°F to 800°F (-240°C to 425°C)Alloy C276Excellent Corrosion Resistance to Both OxidizingAnd Reducing Media and Excellent Resistance toLocalized Corrosion Attack -320°F to 1000°F (-195°C to 535°C)Carpenter 20 Applications Requiring Resistance to StressCorrosion Cracking in Extreme Conditions-400°F to 800°F (-240°C to 425°C)Alloy 600Recommended for High Temperature ApplicationsWith Generally Corrosive Media -205°F to 1200°F (-130°C to 650°C)Titanium Resistant To Many Natural Environments Such asSea Water, Body Fluids and Salt Solutions-320°F to 600°F (-195°C to 315°C)Carpenter 20 is a trademark of Carpenter Technology Corporation.Monel 400 is a trademark of International Nickel.1. F or operating temperatures above 800°F(425°C), consideration should be given to media. 300 Series Stainless Steels are susceptible to carbide precipitation which may lead to intergranular corrosion at elevated temperatures.2. C onsideration should be given to maximum temperature ratings if fittings and/or tubing are coated or plated. All temperature ratings based on maximum temperatures per ASME/ANSI B31.3 Chemical Plant And Refinery Piping Code, 1999 Edition. The information listed in Table 1 is general in scope. For specific applications, please contact Parker’s Instrumentation Connectors Division, Product Engineering Department (256) 881-2040.TABLE 1Gas ServiceSpecial care must be taken when selecting tubing for gas service. In order to achieve a gas-tight seal, ferrules in instrument fittings must seal any surface imperfections. This is accomplished by the ferrules penetrating the surface of the tubing. Penetration can only be achieved if the tubing provides radial resistance and if the tubing material is softer than the ferrules.Thick walled tubing helps to provide resistance. Tables 2-7 indicate the minimum acceptable wall thickness for various materials in gas service. The ratings in white indicate combination of diameter and wall thickness which are suitable for gas service.Acceptable tubing hardness for general application is listed in Table 9. These values are the maximum allowed by ASTM. For gas service, better results can be obtained by using tubing well below this maximum hardness. For example, a desirable hardness of 80 Rb is suitable for stainless steel. The maximum allowed by ASTM is 90 Rb. System PressureThe system operating pressure is another important factor in determining the type, and more importantly, the size of tubing to be used. In general, high pressure installations require strong materials such as steel or stainless steel. Heavy walled softer tubing such as copper may be used if chemical compatibility exists with the media. However, the higher strength of steel or stainless steel permits the use of thinner tubes without reducing the ultimate rating of the system. In any event, tube fitting assemblies should never be pressurized beyond the recommended working pressure. The following tables (2-7) list by material the maximum suggested working pressure of various tubing sizes and are the working pressure ratings for use with Parker CPI™ and A-LOK® compression fittings. Acceptable tubing diameters and wall thicknesses are those for which a rating is listed. Combinations, which do not have a pressure rating, are not recommended for use with instrument fittings.MAXIMUM ALLOWABLE WORKING PRESSURE TABLESTable 2316 or 304 STAINLESS STEEL (Seamless)TubeO.D.WALL THICKNESSSize.010.012.014.016.020.028.035.049.065.083.095.109.120.134.156.1881/16560069008200950012100168001/88600109003/1655007000103001/4400051007500103005/164100590081003/83300480066001/225003500480063005/830004000520061003/4240033004300500058007/821002800360042004900 1240032003700420047001 1/42500290033003700410049001 1/2240027003000340040004500 220002200250029003200 Table 3316 or 304 STAINLESS STEEL (Welded)TubeO.D.WALL THICKNESSSize.010.012.014.016.020.028.035.049.065.083.095.109.120.134.156.1881/16480059007000810010300143001/8730093003/164700600087001/434004400640087005/163400500069003/82800410056001/221003000410053005/825003400450052003/4210028003700420049007/818002400310036004200 1210027003100360040001 1/42100240028003100350042001 1/2200023002600290034004200 217001900210025003000Table 4CARBON STEEL (Seamless)TubeO.D.WALL THICKNESSSize.028.035.049.065.083.095.109.120.134.148.165.180 1/88100103003/165200670097001/438004900710097005/163800550077003/83100450062001/223003300450060005/8180026003500460054003/4220029003800440051007/81800250032003700430011600210028003200370041001 1/417002200250029003200370038001 1/218002100240027003000340038004000 21600180020002200250028003000 Table 6 ALUMINUM (Seamless) TubeO.D.WALL THICKNESSSize.035.049.065.083.095 1/887003/16560081001/4410059005/16320046003/8260038001/21900280038005/81500220029003/41800240032007/8150021002700 11300180023002700Table 5COPPER (Seamless)TubeO.D.WALL THICKNESSSize.010.020.028.035.049.065.083.095.109.120 1/1617003800540060001/8280036003/161800230035001/41700260035005/161300200028003/81100160023001/28001200160022005/89001300170020003/480010001400160019007/860090011001300160016008001000120014001500 1 1/8700900100012001300 Table 7MONEL 400 (Seamless)TubeO.D.WALL THICKNESSSize .010.020.028.035.049.065.083.095.109.120 1/16590012600170001/88600110003/1655007100103001/4400051007500103005/164000590081003/83300480066001/223003300450059005/828003700490057003/423003100400046005400123002900340039004400Note: • All working pressures have been calculated •All calculations are based on maximum outside using the maximum allowable stress levels in diameter and minimum wall thickness.accordance with ANSI B31.3, Chemical Plant •All working pressures are ambient (72°F or 22°C) and Petroleum Refinery Piping Code, 1999 temperature.EditionSystem TemperatureOperating temperature is another factor in determining the proper tubing material. Copper and aluminumtubing are suitable for low temperature media. Stainless steel and carbon steel tubing are suitable for higher temperature media. Special alloys such as Alloy 600 are recommended for extremely high temperatures (see Table 1). Table 8 lists derating factors which should be applied to the working pressures listed in Tables 2-7 for elevated temperature conditions. Simply locate the correct factor in Table 8 and multiply this by the appropriate value inTables 2-7 for elevated temperature working pressure.Table 8Temperature Derating FactorsTemperature°F(°C)Copper Aluminum316 SS304 SS Steel Monel 400100(38) 1.00 1.00 1.00 1.00 1.00 1.00200(93).80 1.00 1.00 1.00.96.88300(149).78.81 1.00 1.00.90.82400(204).50.40.97.94.86.79500(260).90.88.82.79600(316).85.82.77.79700(371).82.80.73.79800(427).80.76.59.76900(486).78.731000(538).77.691100(593).62.491200(649).37.30EXAMPLE:1/***********************************************************************************************system were to operate @ 800°F, a factor of 80% or (.80) would apply (see Table 8 above) and the “at temperature” system pressure would be 3500psi x .80 = 2800psi.Tubing Ordering SuggestionsTubing for use with Parker instrument fittings must be carefully ordered to insure adequate quality for good performance. Each purchase order must specify the material nominal outside diameter, and wall thickness. Ordering to ASTM specifications insures that the tubing will be dimensionally, physically, and chemically within strict limits. Also, more stringent requirements may be added by the user. All tubing should be ordered free of scratches and suitable for bending.A purchase order for the above criteria would read as follows:“1/2 x .049 stainless steel, seamless or welded and redrawn per ASTM A-249. Fully annealed, 80 Rb or less.Must be suitable for bending; surface scratches, and imperfections (incomplete weld seams) are not permissible.”Table 9 lists specific ordering information for each material.Table 9Material Type ASTM Tubing Spec.Condition Max. 2.1. Iron Data Base
The predominant fractionof the Fe inputs enters the oceansin the NorthernHemisphere, with the summerflux rates ca. twice those of winter. The high Fe fluxes in the Northern Hemisphereare concentrated in low and mid-latitudes. With the promising new datafrom MODIS aboardthe Terra satellite, the linkage between Fe fluxes and phytoplanktonbiomass and productivitymay be soonfurther quantified.

1. Introduction
John Martin and colleagues (Martin and Gordon, 1988) hypothesizedthat in certain oceanic regions (high-nitrate, low chlorophyll - HNLC regions), the micronutrient, Fe, regulates phytoplankton growth. Fe fertilization experiments in the equatorialPacific (Coale et al., 1996) and Southern Ocean(Boyd et al., 2000) providedunequivocal supportof the Fe hypothesis. The resultsfrom these experimentsalso led to the suggestionthat Fe fertilization could affect the cycles of other nutrients, especially nitrogen (Falkowski, 1997), which may further affect nitrogen fixing bacteria such as Trichodesmium (Caponeet al., 1997) and the biomass specific rate of photosynthesis (Behrenfeld et al., 1996). Thus the deliveryof iron to the oceanmay causechangesin the global carbon cycles, in particular atmospheric CO2. Indeed, the -420 kyr ice core recordfrom Vostok reveals a strong inverse relationship between dust loading (e.g., aeolian Fe) and atmosphericCO2 (Petit et al., 1999). Fe-inducedCO2 uptake by oceanicbiosphere may well interactwith global climate on geologicaltime scales(Broeckerand Henderson,1998). The major sourceof Fe in the surfacewaters of the open ocean is aeolian dust delivered through long-range transport from arid continental regions (Duce et al., 1980). Model

globalocean to be 32 x 10•2g yr-•. Although thesestudies
demonstrate the importance of Fe inputs,a detailed coupling
of aeolianFe fluxesand biologicalresponses remainsunclear. Since many biological processes are seasonallydependent, quantification of the total aeolianFe depositionon a seasonal basisis needed to characterize the linkage. As the first stepto examiningthe seasonal linkage between aeolianFe and phytoplankton productivity,we applied limited in situ aerosol data obtained in the marine boundary layer (MBL) to quantify seasonal Fe fluxes. Our goal was to establish the seasonal climatological distributions of Fe fluxes on a global scale. The preliminary results from this work will further support the exploration of the Fe input oceanicbiomassrelationship and the developmentof oceanic biogeochemicalmodels. Inevitably, however, this approach will always undersample the global ocean. To address this deficiency, we examined the potentialapplication of remotely sensed dust detectedby a Moderate Resolution Imaging Spectroradiometer(MODIS) onboard the Terra spacecraft
