Should College Focus on Talent Training or Scientific Research?

As we all know, colleges are institutes that provide higher education for students. So the primary task of colleges should be talent training. However, with the target of being top-grade, some colleges chiefly focus on scientific research.

People have different views on this phenomenon. Some hold that the pell-mell development of research university is premature. But some consider that colleges should not only pay attention to talent training, but also try to develop research abilities.

From my point of view,college should attach greatest importance to talent training. It is much beneficial to college students. First and foremost, many colleged in China are still in the developing period, and they are not so competent yet. Secondly,developing scientific research blindly is a waste of resources. In the long run, the training of talented students is the basis of the scientifc research. With enough resources of talents, the development of research universities could be more rapid and much healthier.

Should We Follow Our Parents’ Work Arrangement?

Nowadays, there are more and more disagreements between young people and parents concerning choosing a career. Both of them are conflicted with each other.Consequently, either sticking to our own decision or following our parents’arrangement has sparked a heated discussion.

Some argue that whatever parents say or do is out of love woth considering. There is no denying that parents have more experience. That an old man’s sayings are seldom untrue is often cited to prove the importance of following parents’ arrangement. However, others hold that as young people, we should strive for the ideal, and we are the master of our youth. Undoubtedly, we must dominate our future by ourselves rather than by our parents.

From my personal perspective, though either side makes sense to a certain extent, only focusing on one aspect will prove to be inadequate to make a right decision. Only by making a balance between parents’s arrangement and our ideal can we make a reasonable choice about careers.
