Several studies have looked at the long—term effects eating with families has on children. Experts say that these studies do not seem to prove a cause-and-effect relationship. However, they do suggest a strong TAL#NBSP correlation.About three years ago, the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development(OECD)looked at data from nearly three quarters of the world's countries. Among its findings was the fact that students who shared a main meal with their families were less likely to skip school.Children who eat a main meal with their families are also less likely to be badly-behaved. That is a finding of a study by The National Center on Addiction and Substance Abuse(CASA)at Columbia University in New York. In the CASA report, titled"The Importance of Family Dinners Ⅷ, researchers say, "Teens who have frequent family dinners are more likely to say their parents know a lot about what's really going on in their lives…" They also claim that when tens say they feel closer to their parents, they are less likely to behave badly.Another study from the University of Mont real found that children who ate with their families experience long-term physical and mental health benefits. These children were physically in better shape and drank fewer sugar soft drinks. They also seemed to have better social skills. One researcher, Linda Pagani says that there is "a handful of research suggesting a positive link between eating family meals together frequently and child and adolescent health". Pagani says that meal times shared with parents " likely provide young children with first hand social interaction, discussions of social affairs and day-to-day concerns". She adds that they may likely help the children have better communication skills with others.(1) What does the underlined word " TAL#NBSP correlation" mean?A. effectB. causeC. outcomeD. tie(2) In which aspect can eating together influence children according to the OECD?A. Because of habitat (栖息地)loss, wild elephants would enter their village for food, destroying crops and farmland. The villagers tried to keep the wild elephants out with electric fenced, deep holes and plants believed to keep the animals away. They even tried beating drums. Nothing worked! The repeated destruction of crops led some villagers to stop farming. The villagers' lot improved last year. That is because villagers have found what keeps the elephants away: honey bees. Elephants, it turns out, are afraid of bees making loud sounds and their stings(蜇刺).A wire fence holding beehives(蜂房)now runs along the border of the village. When elephants try to pass the 2.5-kilometer wire fence, angry bees fly out in groups and the elephants quickly flee, people in the village say. Protected by the bees, farmers have returned to growing their crops. Some even started to raise honey bees. The idea started in Africa. V. S. Roy worked for the federal government's Agriculture Technology Management Agency (ATMA). He said the idea for the fence came from the work of an Oxford University researcher, Lucy King. In 2008, King successfully tested whether honey bees would keep elephants away from areas in Kenya. Researchers in Tanzania had the same success. Roy wondered, "If itcould(work)in the African forest, why couldn't it in the Kerala forest? " So, he worked with the farmers' association in Mayilattumpara to start the experiment. The results of this experiment have encouraged farmers from other areas to try similar projects. The government also has been working to settle conflict between humans and elephants by reducing deforestation and improving the elephants' natural habitat.(1) What does the author mean by saying "The villagers' lot improved last year"?A. Elephants' living conditions got better.B. The villagers began to raise honey bees.C. The villagers were spared from crop destruction.D. There was no need for elephants to destroy crops.(2) Where was the idea of keeping elephants away first tested?A. In Kenya.B. In Kerala.C. In Tanzania.D. In Mayilattumpara.(3) What can be inferred from the last paragraph?A. Some farmers try doing research.B. The government has settled the conflict.C. Villagers are partly to blame for crop destruction.D. Climates led to the loss of elephants' natural habitat.3、【来源】 2019年浙江高三下学期高考模拟(C篇)第28~30题7.5分(每题2.5分)Computers are increasingly competing against humans to see whether man or the machine is more intelligent. In the latest show of artificial intelligence or AI, a computer went up against humans in live, public debates. The de bates—held in San Francisco—provided a new example of how computers are fast improving to think and sound more like humans. An AI system developed by major technology company IBM participated in the event. It is called Project Debater. IBM said it is the first time ever that an AI system has competed in a live, public debate with humans. Two separate debates were held between a computer and two human debaters. The company preselected possible subjects for discussion, but said neither the computer nor the humans knew the chosen subject before the debate. The discussions were set up in a similar way to most political debates. After preparing arguments, both sides got the chance to present a four-minute opening statement. Then came four- minute rebuttals(反驳), followed by closing statements. In one debate, IBM's computer battled Noa Ovadia, a former national debate champion. The AI system made a case in favor of the government subsidizing(补贴)space research. It pulled in evidence from its huge supply of information from newspapers, journals and other source. Ovadia took the opposite position, arguing that the government could better serve the people by providing financial assistance to programs other than space exploration.Following closing statements from both sides, reporters and other attendees gave their opinions on the results. IBM reported that a majority of those who watched the debate said they believed Project Debater had improved their knowledge of the subject more than the human debater. On the other hand, the human debater got praise for better communicating her ideas.(1) Why was the debate between man and the computer held?A. To introduce a new product of IBMB. To stress the latest development of computers.C. To show whether man or the computer is smarter.D. To discover public views about space research.(2) What's the audience's view about the debate?A. Each side has its own advantaged.B. Neither side has performed well.C. The computer has better communication skills.D. Ovadia has beaten the computer.(3) What might be talked about next?A. disadvantaged of the debaters.B. Something about the second debate.C. More views about the debates.D. Lessons learned from the debates.二、七选五(共5小题,每小题2分,共10分)4、【来源】 2019年浙江高三下学期高考模拟第31~35题10分(每题2分)2018~2019学年河南南阳高二下学期期中第36~40题10分A House warming PartyA house warming party is special party to be held when someone buys or moves into a new apartment or house. Fill in the numbered blanks by using the information from the passage.Write NO MORE THAN THREE WORDS for each answer.“Everyone should have a career plan, ”saysCraig Bernhardt, director of services at RobertHal f. “But the plan is a lifelong process thatprovides you with the tools to evaluate, choose, andeven change your career path. ”Bearing this in mind, here are the essential factors of career planning: self-analysis, exploration, and selection. According to Bernhardt, if doing what you love is your goal, you need to establish a basis for doing so.First conduct a detailed self-analysis, which, as obvious as it mayseem, is worth plenty of your time. Not only will you have to seriously consider your interests, values, and skills, you will also have to take your personality into consideration. “Find out what you’re really good at by asking family and friends. ”suggests Bernhardt. “And remember to consider the kinds of places where you prefer to work, and the kinds of things that help you develop. ”Once yourself analysis is complete, it’s time to start exploring the careers that interest you the most. Would you rather be a lawyer or a marketing officer? “Research the occupations and industries you’d like to work in, and try to speak to people with professional experience in those fields, ”says Bernhardt. With the career exploration done, it’s time that you selected possible paths of career. Even if you’re not moving towards a new company or a new role, you’ll still need both short and long-term milestones to show you where you want to go. If you’re thinking of staying with your current company in a new role, for example, you’ll need to determine the best way of doing so, keeping in mind that most employers would rather keep existing employees than hire new ones.In the end, whether you’re staying in the same role with new responsibilities, or going for a complete career change, don’t be afraid to take a step backward if it helps you move forward, or to make a lateral(横向的)move in order to develop some essential skills. “Make sure you review your career plan yearly to ensure you’re going to come to your goals, ”says Bernhardt.Title: 1.【拓展训练】Ⅰ. 根据阅读理解文章, 回答下列问题。

2022年浙江高考英语一轮复习阅读理解专练(四)(含解析)
阅读理解专练(四)(限时30分钟)AFrom the cold Arctic to the African plains, every society seems to have some form of music as part of their culture. Music is so common and widespread that most people don’t even question it anymore. But until recently, there were researchers who doubted it: How could we know that music was really a part of all known societies? Now, Harvard researchers, Samuer Mehr and Manvir Singh, have found further evidence to support the argument. They gathered music from different countries, media and time periods, and collected descriptions of many different pieces of music. Rather than focusing on music first and then looking at where it could be found, they started by studying a record of detailed descriptions of more than three hundred known global societies, and found that all of them have music as part of their culture. To see if people could recognize the functions of songs from around the world, the researchers also created a listening experiment in which people tried to guess the behavioral context of a song. This went surprisingly well. Particularly music that was intended for dancing or tocalm a baby was easy to recognize as either dance music or lullabies. Love songs were a bit more difficult to qualify, because they tend to be very diverse even within cultures. This systematic study of connections sounds like the way that researchers in other fields would study biological patterns. “There’s a field known as cultural phylogenetics, ” says Singh. Whereas biological characteristics are only received from parent to child, cultural characteristics (like music) are also shared between people of the same generation. That makes it much more difficult to figure out where the characteristic has come from.“Finally, ” Singh says, “We s till don’t know why music developed gradually. Our study shows that humans everywhere share cognitive mechanisms (认知机制) that make certain sounds seem appropriate in particular contexts. ”【文章大意】本文是一篇议论文, 介绍世界各地的音乐拥有的共同特点, 同时成为各种文化不可或缺的组成部分。

school. However,it seems career o ptions aren’t only based on personal taste. In a survey carried out by Teens, doctors, lawyers and bankers were some of the most popular careers that people said they hoped to follow. This is in line with a similar survey carried out in the UK in May 2011 by job website ,in which medicine was the top choice among UK teenagers aged between 13 and 17.Medicine and law are two of the oldest and best known professions.Their prestige may come from the fact that doctors and lawyers are some of the most esteemed members of society, and they make good money.Joining these high-profile professions is often seen as a sign of upward social mobility. It is equally unsurprising that banking is now one of the most common career choices.Youngsters worldwide think of banking and see the money rolling in.Wealth is increasingly becoming one of the most important indicators of a successful career.British young men list the UK business tycoon(大亨)Alan Sugar,Microsoft founder Bill Gates and Facebook chief Mark Zuckerberg as their top role models“for their wealth”,just as Chinese teenagers see being a banker as a good and fun pathway to“wealth”.However, not every child has the makings of a doctor, lawyer or banker. There are those who see fulfillment and happiness in other areas, and many teenagers dare to ink more individuality into their career options. As the Teens’survey discovered,a variety of unconventional(非传统的)jobs—coffee shop owner, gourmet(美食家),waiter at a fast food restaurant—are among teenagers’career choices. They can be equally interesting and rewarding jobs. With every choice comes responsibility and challenge, and all career paths require specific education and training. You have to learn to balance optimism and confidence with being realistic about your particular talents and skills.6.What is the top career choice among UK teenagers aged between 13 and 17 according to the article?w.B.Medicine.C.Bank.cation.7.According to the article, all of the following are the benefits of being a doctor except .A.the oldest professionB.respect from othersC.high payD.upward social mobility8.What do youngsters think is increasingly and skills, you can choose your favorite career.B.Specific education and training can help get a good job.C.Whatever career you choose, you should balance optimism, confidence and being realistic according to your particular talents and skills.D.Responsibility is the most important when you choose a good job.10.What’s the passage mainly about?A.Careers in teenagers’mind.B.Choosing a good job is very important.C.Teenagers in the UK like doctors.D.The choice of career needs challenge.C(原创)Does it annoy you when your parents make you drink a carton of milk when you want a can of soda?Or do you hate being told to go for a run when your favorite TV show is on?Well, maybe you should listen to your parents because they are only trying to help you.Without proper diet and exercise kids are at risk of developing fragile bones when they get older. That’s because our bodies are very good at building bones until about the age of 30,when the process stops.Dr Lawrence Raisz, scientific editor of The 2004 Surgeon General’s Report on Bone Health and Osteoporosis(骨质疏松症),agrees.“We’re in bad shape,”he says. His report predicts that by 2020,half of all Americans over the age of 50 will be at risk of fractures(骨折)because of low bone mass.“Kids today are—what’s the expression?—they’re computer potatoes. They have lots of soft drinks and not enough good calcium-rich(富含钙质的)food.”And therein(在其中)lies the problem, because calcium and exercise, along with vitamin D,are the key components for building up strong bones. If you think of your body as a house, then your skeleton is the supporting frame—a frame maintained and strengthened by calcium.Once we hit our 30s,our bodies start to draw from the calcium stored in our bones. If there is enough calcium, then the structure will stand firm, but if there’s not?Picture the frame of a house eaten up by termites(白蚁),the wood brittle(易折的)and filled with“holes”that’s whatosteoporosis does to your skeleton. The second half of the skeleton building equation is exercise. For optimum(最适宜的)bone health, the Surgeon General recommends that children get 60 minutes of weight-bearing(负重)or strengthening exercise a day.As with muscles, bones grow stronger with use; plenty of exercise means plenty of bones health.“If you do an hour of exercise a day,it doesn’t matter so much what it is,”Raisz says.“You’re telling your bones they’ve got to grow!”11.According to Dr Lawrence Raisz, many Americans will have weak bones in the future because .A.their body will stop building bonesB.they are not familiar with the structure of the four cold dishes,to be followed by the main courses of hot meat and vegetable dishes.Soup then will be served(unless in Guangdong style restaurants)to be followed by staple food ranging from rice, noodles to dumplings. If you wish to have your rice to go with other dishes, you should say so in good time, for most of the Chinese choose to have the staple food at last or have none of them at all.Perhaps one of the things that surprise a Western visitor most is that some of the Chinese hosts like to put food into the plates of their guests. In formaldinners, there are sunlight and water into energy. It is known as photosynthesis(光合作用).Now researchers have found a way to imitate this process. The artificial leaf developed by Daniel Nocera and his colleagues at MIT can be seen as a special silicon chip with catalysts.Similar to natural leaves,it can split water into hydrogen and oxygen when put into a bucket of water. The hydrogen and oxygen gases are then stored in a fuel cell, using those two materials to produce electricity, located either on top of a house or beside the house.Though the leaf is shaped like a poker card, scientists stated that it is promising to be an inexpensive source of electricity in developing countries.“One can imagine villages in India and Africa not long from now purchasing an affordable basic power sy stem based on this technology,”said an American scientist,Nocera. An artificial leaf is not a new idea. The first artificial leaf was invented in 1997 but too expensive and unstable for practical use.The new leaf, however,is made of cheap materials, easy to use and highly stable. In laboratory studies,Nocera showed that an artificial leaf could operate continuously for at least 45 hours. The wonderful improvements come from Nocera’s recent discovery of several powerful new, inexpensive catalysts. These catalysts make the energy transformationinside the leaf more efficient with water and sunlight.Right now,the new leaf is about 10 times more effective at carrying out photosynthesis than a natural one.Besides, the device can run in whatever water is available.Hopefully, each home could possible have the access to the new application in the future.11.The purpose of this article is to .A.promote the new productB.ask people to do the researchC.introduce a new kind of deviceD.show the process of photosynthesis12.Which of the following is NOT the advantages of the new leaf?A.It has a wonderful fuel cell.B.It is small in size.C.It is low in cost.D.It is convenient for people to use.13. What conclusion can be drawn from the text?A.Nocera thought the new leaf is expensive for developing countries.B.Villages in Africa have benefited a lot from the new invention.C.Silicon chip can help the new leaf work more effectively.D.The equipment doesn’t necessarily operate in pure water.14.What’s the writer’s attitude towards the new device?A.Negative.B.Optimistic.C.Doubtful.D.Uncertain.15. According to the text, what will take place in the future?A. New leaves will take the place of natural leaves.B.Scientists will develop more ways to produce energy.C.The new invention could be widely used in the future.D.Developing countries will contribute more to the research.DIf anything can be said about record-breaking globetrotter(环球旅行家)Graham Hughes,it’s that—throughout his travels,he’s always kept his feet firmly on theground. The adventurer, from Liverpool, has become the first person to visit all 201 countries in the world without using a plane.Hughes used buses, taxis, trains and his own two feet to travel 160,000 miles in exactly 1,426 days—all on a shoestring(资金微薄)of just $100 a week.He spent four days crossing open ocean in a leaky boat to reach Cape Verde on the North Atlantic, was jailed for a week in the Congo for being mistaken as a“spy”,and was arrested trying to“sneak(溜; 偷偷地做)into”Russia. And yesterday Graham Hughes trudged(长途跋涉)into Juba, the capital of South Sudan,to end the epic four-year journey that began in his hometown of Liverpool on New Year’s Day 2009.“I love travel, and I guess my reason for doing it was I wanted to see if this could be done,by one person traveling on a shoestring,”he told the Christian Science Monitor.“I think I also wanted to show that the wo rld is not some big, scary place, but in fact is full of people who want to help you even if you are a stranger.”Guinness has now confirmed that Hughes, who filmed the expedition for a documentary and raised money for charity Water Aid,has achieved the world record.“The main feeling today is just one of intense gratitude to every person around the world who helped me get here,by giving me a lift, letting me stay on their couch,or pointing me in the right direction,”Hughes added.16.Which of the following is not described Graham Hughes?A.Globetrotter.B.Adventurer.C.The first person traveling around the world not using a plane.D.Scientist.17.What’s the real purpose of Graham Hughes’travel?A.He wanted to experience adventure.B.He wanted to be famous.C.He wanted to use the least money to complete the farthest journey.D.He likes travel very much.18.Which of the following is NOT TRUE according to the text?A.When he traveled on the ocean, his boat was leaking water.B.He was put into prison because of being considered a spy in the Congo.C.He was caught in Russia because he stole something.D.It was in South Sudan that he ended his epic four-year journey.19.Why did Hughes make the world record that he had achieved into the film—the expedition for a documentary?A.Because he wanted to be remembered by people all over the world.B.Because he wanted to raise money for charity Water Aid.C.Because he only wanted to record his experience.D.Because he wanted to earn money.20.What can we learn from the last paragraph?A.When he traveled all over the world,he got a lot of help from different people.B.He often sleeps on the coach.C.He often points the direction for others.D.He is grateful to the people who have helped him.Ⅲ.阅读第二节(共5小题; 每小题2分,满分10分)(2013·宁波模拟)下面文章有5处(第1~5题)需要填入合适的内容。

sunlight and water into energy.
