So, I was increasingly compelled to see the war as an enemy of the poorand to attack it as such.Perhaps a more tragic recognition of reality took place when it became clear to me that the war was doing far more than devastating the hopes of the poor at home. Hawkins builds his case against global warming by asking rhetorical questions, examining failed assertions, and citing encouraging recent events.Rhetorical questions sprinkled throughout the essay encourage the readers to question their assumptions about global warming. For the majority of people, especially teenagers, birthday party and school performance are events that family members should remember. Unfortunately, this is not the case for the author. Reading at this point, readers are left a bit disappointed at the author and tend to pay more attention to what he wants to convey next. At the cusp of people’s attention, author Bruni brings about something that deserves greater emphasis- reading: “I’m incessantly asking my nephews and nieces what they’re reading and why they’re not reading more.” Thus the readers start to realize how justifiable the author is-as nothing like a birthday party or a performance in school is comparable with the importance of reading. 怎样写好新SAT作文?分析能力很重要!(上篇)这个部分对于目前的考生来说难度极高,不仅仅因为它是主动型题目,需要考生自己提供答案,而且因为这种作文形式与以往学生见到的英文作文的形式(主要是essay/argument形式)大相径庭。
事实上,好的SAT作文是进入前30名名校的敲门砖,而这一年的SAT作文实际写作质量和打分标准让老师和考生均感觉困惑。
因此,对于作文,不可小觑。
第1步:熟悉SAT作文的格式和要求在实际考试中,SAT作文由封面、作文要求、阅读文章三个部分构成。
(1)封面:印有考试日期(例如:SAT Essay March2016)、内容(Essay Book)、要求(Directions)和重要提醒(Reminders)。
这一部分内容建议广大考生在考试之前就熟记于心。

在新SAT考试中Essay写作虽然是选考科目,但是很多美国大学依然要求有Eaaay写作成绩。
在新SAT考试改革中,写作也是变动最大的一部分,除了改成选考科目外,写作内容也做了很大的变动,从以往的批判型写作改为分析型写作。

Gerrit教授谈到,Essay写作本质上讲可分为四大类目:Personal Essay,Research based Argument Essay,Literary essay and hybrid essay. 新SAT的Essay部分属于这四部分中的Literary Essay,考生针对一篇阅读文章来分析,所有的内容考生自己不占立场,主要任务就是分析文章,包括作者观点、作者使用到的写作手法还有事务发展的情节等等,根据分析的结果完成Essay。
在完成分析型写作的过程中,考生的角色很像一个movie critic(电影评论员),只参与作品的评论分析,而不参与作品本身的观点论证。
关于分析型文章具体的解决步骤,Gerrit教授认为首先要做到“one hard thing at a time:一次只做一件难事儿”,也就是说,要将任务细致化、阶段化地进行分割,每一个阶段集中完成一个难度层级较高的任务,然后逐步解决。
关于Literary Essay的话,可以大致分为以下几个步骤:
Firstly,阅读Essay题目页右侧下面的框中的题干要求,找到作者的claim(观点)
The other thing is,使用简单的transitional words(过渡词),大致搞清楚作者的行文逻辑Furthermore,通读文章,画出可能出现考点的地方,比如说,看到作者用到引号划线quotation,出现对应观点的具体例子的时候划线exemplification,etc.
Finally,综合分析作者的目的,即作者如何使用各种手法实现支持自己的claim的目的,进而完成文章写作。
另外一个重点在于,Essay写作要注意transitional words的灵活使用。
Gerrit教授提到transitional words使文章看起来更加sophisticated。
逻辑缜密,思维严谨的文章无疑会给阅卷官留下考生思维比较客观,具备critical thinking(批判性思维能力)的印象,无疑是Essay 文章获取高分的加分点哦。
