After an initial burst of enthusiasm for children, childbearing is losing its appeal for many young couples in metropolises. Nowadays, there is an increasing number of young couples who are reluctant to have children as the rhythm of life is speeding up, which raise a public concern. Why could this phenomenon come into being? For my perspective, three main factors may be accountable for this situation.Firstly, the main reason should be the work pressure. Confronting with the heavier workload, many young couples have no mind to have a child. Suffered from the pressure of modern life, the young generation always feel the stress to learn new things and to keep pace with t he knowledge updating so that they will not run the risk of being laid off in the fierce competition.Secondly, the cost of bringing a child seems to be an astronomical number for the couples whose financial status is not so good. Superficially, their incomes has been improved than before. Nevertheless, with the devaluation of currency, what t hey get is less than what they should pay actually, which means their financial condition cannot afford the cost of having a child which includes medical treatment, health cares, education, etc.Thirdly, the possible reason lie in the changes of the fertility value and moral standard. It is a pity that s ome young couples do not think having no children run counter to traditional customs and they even regard it as a signal of society progress. Accordingly, they would rather have more freedoms to enjoy their precious time in preference to confine themselves to child rearing. However, the young couples who are reluctant to have children can hardly grasp such a philosophy that raising a child is an obligatory part of their love, families and even the society. Although, to some extent, having no children may help them relieve stresses, it would not help them soothe worries completely. Because, without a child, a couple can hardly r eap the benefits that a child add to their monotonous life. More seriously, if this phenomenon comes into a tendency, it may inevitably lead to a society where a population implosion would haunt our future and they would confront such a dilemma that there would be no offspring to support them when they are old.。

freedom to use it. because teenagers are too weak to resist the great tempt. various online games will cost their almost all-day time. and many kinds of online movies may teach them unhealthy content such as violence. also, long-time exposure to computer will do great harm to teenager’s eyesight. a child addicted to internet will neglect his study completely. however, the word limit does not mean forbidding. it can’t be denied that internet is a very useful tool for learning. in this information age, computer and internet is essential. adequate access to internet will contribute to teenagers keeping pace with this world. also, internet is a fine entertainment for students who have study longtime and get tired. so, i think parents shouldset limits on but not forbid access for their teenager children.2. should smoking be prohibited completely in all countries? why?well, it’s a quite complex question. overall, in my opinion, i think smoking shouldn’t be completely prohibited in all countries. let me explain my views.we all know clearly that smoking is very harmful to the smoker’s health. longtime smoking can lead to lung cancerand other serious health problem. also, smoking in public situation is awful. people around the smoker, especially the children, also suffer from the damage to their health. in spite of all these bad effects mentioned above, however, i still think smoking is indeed needed in our society. for example, when people get tired or anxious, a cigarette can help to release their body as well as spirit. also, in some social intercourse, cigarette is a essential. in my eyes, i can’t imagine what people’s life will become if smoking is completely prohibited. there may be many benefits for individuals, but the social will suffer a lot. so, i think smoking should not be prohibited. it is individual’s effort to make smoking a useful thing.3. agree or disagree: there is nothing that young people could teach old people.in ancient times, young people should never teach old people. old people know much more than young because they have undergone many things in their life. they lead us to the rightway. some times, it’s regarded impolite for young to teach old. but that does not mean young people really have nothing to teach old people, especially in this high-developed times. young people usually learn things fast and learn more. they always have a smart head for new things. therefore, young people can teach the olds how to use computer and cellphone, how to dance and so on. also, i think old people can learn younger’s passion and energetic for life. that will be a good thing.4. should pets be allowed in university dormitories?in my opinion, by no means should pets be allowed in dormitories. to be honest, i’ve been thinking in my mind to have a pet in my dorm. lovely pets will bring much joy to our daily life. but i eventually didn’t do that. why? because i t is something selfish and irresponsible. dormitory is a place where several people live together. to a certain degree, it is a public place. we can’t just comply with our own desire while ignore other roommates’ feeling. having a pet in dorm can be troublesome or even annoying. it may make the room dirty and even in a mess. what’s worse, some people are allergic to certain animals. also, people’s rest can’t be guaranteed. some people may say that we could choose a mild and little pet such as fishes. in thi s case, if your roommates don’t reject, i think it is acceptable.5. agree or disagree: museums should be made free.in my eyes, museums of course should be made free. we know that, as a part of culture, museums restore many culture relics. these are typical symbols for a certain times. as a citizen of our country, it is necessary and natural to learn our past history. recent years, more and more museums are open free to the public. i couldn’t agree more with it. free museum will greatly motivate all kind s of people to approach. what’s more, in this fast developing age, museums have many new and advanced invents inside. it will be a wonderful place for people who want to learn more. parents can often take their children to museums to learn about history and some technical knowledge. in a word, i think government should try to make more museums free for citizens.6. agree or disagree: zoos should be banned.nowadays, lots of people start to realize that zoos are not a good place for animals. people need zoos because it is an easy way to close the animals and also because it’s convenient for people to observe them. however, zoos are in fact a cruel place for animals. animals should live in their natural habitat. an animal’s natural instinct is to run and to hunt. but that’s not for animals kept in zoos. everyday, people feed them. they’ve never been taught how to hunt for food and will gradually lose their natures. that will be quite cruel for a animal, especially for wild animals such as tigers and lions. you can often find in zoos that a tiger kept in cage has a loose expression in its face. we set animals in zoos and therefore feel that they won’t meet danger and may be able to protect them from dying out. this may be just a excuse we find for ourselves to make animals in cages just as entertainment. we always say animals are our friends, then why we put our friends in cages?7. agree or disagree: advertising aiming at children should be restricted.i disagree. it’s fair to advertize to children even children are always said to be unable to distinguish between reality and fiction, between entertainment and advertising. a supposed consequence of advertising is that children are being persuaded to demand things that they don’t need and to adopt consumerist values and attitudes in their formative years. however, it’s up to the parents to deter mine what should and shouldn’t be bought for their children. children need to know how to see these ads and realize how a certain product would affect them and thus balance out the pros and cons and see if it’s in their best interest. in my opinion, the pa rents as well as the world need to stop babying children and let them learn lessons for life, because certain things can’t be restricted well. temptation is always at children’s side. they have to learn to resist and make responsible decisions.8. agree or disagree: junk food should be taxed.i agree that junk food should be taxed. in modern society, many people are attracted to eat in kfc or macdonald’s. everyday, many hamburgers, fried chips and so on are sold out. despite the good sale, it can’t be de nied that all these are junk food. just as the word junk, they bring great harm to our healthy. so, there comes a appeal that junk food should betaxed. in think it is enforceable because it will control the sale of junk food to a certain degree. firstly, the tax can force the manufacturer to decrease production and then there will be less junk food on market. also, we all know that junk food has very high profits. some trader many take extreme trick to cut down theircost and gain more profit. so, it’s rea sonable to tax them.9. agree or disagree: universities should abolish the practice of cutting off the electricity at dormitory at night.i agree with it. as a student, i should say, university shouldn’t cut off electricity at dormitory at night. the original intention for university to cut off electricity is to ensure our rest for some students will stay up very late if there is nothing to limit them. however, these students are minority. most students have regular timetable. what’s more, we are now alr eady in university, i think we shouldn’t be treated like high school students any longer. especially in summer hot days, no electricity at night would be a nightmare to all students. we can’t fall asleep without electric fans. i can’t just imagine that. universities should think more for their students and trust their self-control.10. some say music training in college is unnecessary, while others do not believe so. what is your opinion on this issue?i should say, music training in college is necessary, especially for non-art students. to be honest, nowadays’ college students are also under much pressure. we have to attend many complex courses everyday. many students get tired and gloomy. then, if there is a music course, it will greatly release our bad mood. and we will have a nice mood and more energy to continue our study. besides, it’s commonly believed that music training can cultivate people’s character. it will make people more calm and wise as well as elegant. in fact, nowadays, many parents send their children to attend music course at a very young age. these parents hope their children will have a elegant and smart mind. many of today’s students in university didn’t have adequate music training at their former school. if university can open related music course, it will be of great use for students’ cultivation.11. some people like to do only what they already do well. other people prefer to try new things and take risks. which do you prefer?i prefer to try new things and take risks. for me, risk is a kindof uncertainty. maybe it will lead to a negative consequence, but just as helen keller ever said, character cannot be developed in ease and quiet. only through experience of trial and suffering can the soul be strengthened, ambition inspired, and success achieved. so, if we only do what we already d well, we can rarely touch new things, gain new knowledge, and we never change. however, if we try new thing, we will find something different and may come to something we’ve never face before. then, we will try our best to solve it, to achieve it. during the course, our ability is improved even though we failat last. after repeatedly trying new things, we will eventually find that we’ve learnt many and become more mature. we will find it easier to measure situation and make right decision. also, our simple life is becoming meaningful and interesting.12. some say military training at college is necessary while other disagree. what’s your point of view on this subject? why?i think military training at college is necessary. nowadays, many undergraduates are lacking in self-control and discipline. the military training is quite useful in this case. we know that military training is very strict. during the training, we learn to obey the disciplines and keep highconcentration. also, we can have our body strengthened and change our lazy image. although the training can be very hard, we will gradually find that our steps become vigorous, and our spirits become energetic. what’s more, military training can also cultivate our patriotism. the experience of hard trainingwill remind us of chinese army’s hardship. we are aware oftheir historic mission, fighting spirit and responsibility. so, military training is an effective way to make people know more about our motherland and love her.13. what qualities do you think a friend should have to continue the friendship? use specific reasons to support your idea.in my heart, i think the most important quality to continue the friendship is sincerity. a true friendship must be built on sincerity. however, to continue a friendship is not a easy thing.both of each other have to pay a lot. the word sincerity contains too much. firstly, we need to be frank and honest to each other. only if when we did so can the other side treat us like the same and thus build belief between friends. a friendship full of lies and deceit shouldn’t be called friendship. secondly, we need to be considerable and do not be self-centered. we should think more for our friends and encourage them on certain occasion. a self-centered friend can be very troublesome and annoying. no one would tolerate him for a long time. finally, i think we should learn to compromise sometimes. we can’t live in harmony forever with our friends. when there expose a disagreement, we should compromise to each other. only by this way can a friendship last long.14. some people say college degree begins to lose shining while others do not think so. what’s your point of view on this subject? why?it’s not an easy question. on the whole, i think, college degree do begin to lose shining but we should never think it unimportant.today, there are more and more universities or college degrees. we can say that graduates in society are overflowing. it can’t be ignored that more and more graduates with high degree are in fact idiots. so, the companies increasingly focus more on the personal ability rather than college degree when they recruit employees. however, that does not mean college certification becomes a wastepaper. it’s still a essential for you looking a good job. support that a person without any qualification, will a recruiting company give him a chance? that will rarely happen, at least in our country. then, if you never have a chance, how can you display and prove your ability, if you indeed have? so, do not think the college degree is useless. after all, chances are not for every common people. only if we own it can we get the chance to enter a good company and thus make a difference.15. some say growing up in rich family promotes children’s personality and character. some think otherwise. what’s your opinion? why?wel l, it’s quite a question argued by people all the time. i think a person’s personality has little relation to his family economic level. it’s commonly said that a child in rich family will has more chances and better choice for his study. however, if the kid himself isn’t aware of this, that is all in vain. it’s not unusual that many children from rich family are quite rude and conceited although they are always receive the best education. then, how about the poor family’s children? there is another saying that adversity cultivates heroes. to be honest, i disagree with it too. poor children should learn harder and catch every chance to strengthen themselves. however, the reality is oftennot like that. subjectively speaking, poor children are easy to feel i nferior and thus can’t study well. even if they study well, they hardly do well in practicing ability. objectively speaking, poor children can hardly receive good and plentiful education because of the economic limit. that will cause deficiency in some literal or artistic talent such as music or dance. therefore, i think children’s personality have little relation to their family situation.16. in universities, students should take history courses no matter what field they study. do you agree?i disagree with it even though i do know history is important. i’m a student major in electricity. to be honest, i think there is little sense for students in university taking history courses no matter what field they study. maybe many people would say, history is something left by our ancestors, so we shouldn’t forget it. yes, i agree with that. history need to be remembered. but in fact, we have been learning history from primary school.i really it’s enough for people like me whose major has little relation to history. i just take history exam last year. for me, it was really a nightmare. i spent so much time on it and still can’t remember all. now that we’ve chosen engineering, i can’t understand why we need and have to learn history again. the time spent on history learning should be used for our major courses.17. agree or not agree: the next twenty years from now on, students will not use printed books any more.i don’t think so. printed books won’t be abandoned in such a short time. i admit that new technology is developing fast. many advanced electronic products are gradually take theplace of traditional tools. just like in university, teachers like to use multimedia in class for it is quite convenient and efficient. however, for our student, it is not realistic to study completely by electronic products. there are many things need to recorded on books. books are something meaningful and practical. i should say, in our country, printed books wouldn’t be abandoned within 20 years at least for two reasons. firstly, books are classical container of knowledge. they accompany human to advance. a student without books could be someway ridiculous. secondly, our country haven’t developed so strong to make every student study by computer or other forms of electronic tools. and even after 20 years, the possibility is also very small. i also think it is unnecessary because books are cheap but useful and still meaningful.18. agree or not agree: working together is better than working alone.i think work together is better than work alone. there are many benefits of working together. firstly and obviously, working together can collect many useful and excellent ideas especially when we are thinking some complicated problems. after all, each person has his own way of thinking. after getting all ideas together, you will often find that things become much easier. secondly, working together can avoid mistakes to a great extent. people may make wrong judge when their mood is not stable. in this case, teamwork will do great favor. your partner could remind you of your mistake and turn the result to a good one. thirdly, when we work together, we need be patient and not self-centered. you need to listen to others’ opinion and learn to get well along with people around you.19. do you think nowadays the young generation’s life is in fact easier and more Unit4 无子女家庭:亘古生息的反叛1二十好几的凯茜、韦恩夫妇结婚已有五年之久,膝下犹虚。

Historian Lucy Worsley caused a furore when she remarked last year that she had been 'educated out of the natural reproductive function'.Now it seems she might have had a point, after a new study has revealed a clear correlation between intelligence and childlessness - with cleverer women more likely to choose not to have a family. The study, which was conducted by Satoshi Kanazawa, a researcher at the London School of Economics, found that a woman's urge to have children decreases by a quarter for every 15 extra IQ points. When Kanazawa, who used data from the UK's National Child Development Study, added controls for economics and education, the results remained the same - the more intelligent the woman, the less likely she was to have children.Worsley isn't the UK's only famously clever childless woman, with others including BBC presenter Kate Humble and actress Helen Mirren. In the USA, Oprah Winfrey, Cameron Diaz and Eva Mendes are among the famous names who have said they'll never become mothers, with Diaz adding: 'I have the life I have because I don't have children.'Mendes too has said that she values her lifestyle too much to share it with children. 'I don't want kids,' she said. 'I love sleepand I worry about everything.'Humble, meanwhile, told the Times that she just 'doesn't have a maternal gene' and resolved not to have children at the age of 14.'People are very judgmental,' she added. 'It's as if I made a selfish decision not to have children, but I never, ever, wanted them.'Humble and Mendes certainly aren't alone, with figures released by the Office of National Statistics revealing that the proportion of women without children has almost doubled since the 1990s.One in five 45-year-olds is childless, while among those with degrees, the figure rises to 43 percent, suggesting that Kanazawa's findings are sound.A social study, conducted by social scientist Dr Nattavudh Powdthavee of the University of York, revealed that the notion that happiness comes from having children is illusory and offers yet another clue to why so many clever women are rejecting motherhood.'Parents spend much of their time attending to the very core processes of childcare: problems at school, cooking, laundry,' said Powdthavee in an interview with the Times.'It's these small but negative experiences that are more likely to impact on our day-to-day levels of happiness and life satisfaction.'

English: While some people may view having children as a natural progression in life, others may prefer to have pets instead. There are several reasons why someone may choose to have pets over having children. Firstly, pets can provide companionship and emotional support without the same level of commitment and responsibilitythat comes with raising a child. Pets can bring joy and comfort to their owners, without the need for constant supervision and guidance. Additionally, pets can be a source of stress relief and can help improve mental health by reducing feelings of loneliness and isolation. Furthermore, pets can be a more affordable option compared to the high costs associated with raising a child, including education, healthcare, and other expenses. Overall, the decision to have pets instead of children is a personal choice that varies from individual to individual based on their lifestyle, preferences, and circumstances.

Having a child is one of the most profound and life-changing experiences a person can have. The responsibility of caring for a new human life, watching them grow and develop, and guiding them through the challenges of life is both incredibly rewarding and incredibly demanding. However, for many people, the idea of having a child is not an appealing one. Instead, they would much rather have a pet. There are several reasons why someone might choose to have a pet over a child. One of the primary reasons is the level of commitment and responsibility required. Caring for a child is a 24/7 job that lasts for years, if not decades. Children require constant attention, feeding, bathing, clothing, and supervision. They need to be taken to doctor's appointments, enrolled in school, and provided with a safe and nurturing environment. This level of commitment can be overwhelming for some people, who may feel that they are not ready or able to take on such a demanding role.In contrast, caring for a pet is generally less demanding. While petsstill require a significant amount of time and attention, the level of responsibility is often more manageable. Pets need to be fed, exercised, and groomed, but they do not require the same level of hands-on care as a child. Additionally, pets can often be left alone for short periods of time, whereas a child would require constant supervision.Another reason why someone might choose a pet over a child is the financial aspect. Raising a child is an incredibly expensive endeavor. From the cost of prenatal care and delivery to the ongoing expenses of food, clothing, healthcare, and education, the financial burden of having a child can be overwhelming. In contrast, while pets do require some financial investment, the costs are generally much lower than those associated with raising a child.Furthermore, many people find the companionship and unconditional love of a pet to be more fulfilling than the demands of raising a child. Pets can provide a sense of comfort and emotional support that can be difficult to find in other relationships. They can also be a source of joy and laughter, helping to alleviate stress and improve mental health.Another factor that may contribute to the decision to have a pet over a child is the desire for more freedom and flexibility. Raising a child requires a significant amount of time and energy, which can limit anindividual's ability to pursue their own hobbies, travel, or maintain a career. In contrast, pet owners often have more freedom to come and go as they please, as long as they have made arrangements for their pet's care.Additionally, some people may simply not feel the desire or inclination to have a child. While the decision to have a child is a deeply personal one, not everyone feels the same biological or emotional drive to reproduce. For these individuals, the idea of having a pet may be more appealing, as it allows them to experience the joys of companionship and caregiving without the added responsibility of raising a human being. It is important to note that the decision to have a pet or a child is a highly personal one, and there is no right or wrong answer. Both options have their own unique challenges and rewards, and the choice ultimately comes down to an individual's personal preferences, lifestyle, and values. However, for those who are not drawn to the idea of having a child, the option of having a pet can be a fulfilling and rewarding alternative. In conclusion, the decision to have a pet over a child is a complex one that is influenced by a variety of factors. From the level of commitment and responsibility required to the financial and emotional aspects, there are numerous reasons why someone mightchoose to have a pet instead of a child. Ultimately, the choice comes down to personal preference and what will bring the most fulfillment and happiness to an individual's life.。

I would rather have pets than have children. There are several reasons for this preference.Firstly, pets provide unconditional love and companionship. They are always there for you, ready tooffer comfort and support. Pets do not judge or criticize you, and they are always happy to see you. This kind of constant companionship can be very comforting, especiallyfor those who live alone or have busy lifestyles.Secondly, pets are much less expensive to raise than children. The cost of raising a child can be extremely high, including expenses for food, clothing, education, and healthcare. On the other hand, the cost of owning a pet is relatively low in comparison. While there are initial expenses for adoption, food, and veterinary care, these costs are generally much lower than those associated with raising a child.Furthermore, pets are much less demanding than children. While pets do require care and attention, they do not have the same level of needs and responsibilities as children.Pets do not need to be driven to school, enrolled in extracurricular activities, or constantly supervised. This allows for more flexibility and freedom in one's schedule, as caring for a pet can be integrated more easily into a busy lifestyle. In addition, pets can have a positive impact on one's mental and emotional well-being. Studies have shown that owning a pet can reduce stress, anxiety, and depression. Pets can provide a sense of purpose and routine, as well as opportunities for physical activity and social interaction. The bond between a pet and their owner can be incredibly strong and fulfilling, enhancing one's overall quality of life.Overall, I believe that having pets can bring joy, comfort, and companionship into one's life in a way that having children may not. While both pets and children require care and attention, the unique benefits of having pets make them a preferred choice for me.

There are several reasons contributing to this trend, and it is essential to understand the underlying factors to address this issue effectively. One of the main reasons why young people are hesitant to start a family is the high cost of raising children. In today's society, the expenses associated with childcare, education, healthcare, and housing have skyrocketed, making it challenging for young couples to afford to have children. Many young people are burdened with student loans and struggling to establish their careers, making it financially unsustainable to bring a child into the world.Another significant factor that deters young people from starting a family is the changing attitudes towards parenthood. With the rise of individualism and the pursuit of personal fulfillment, many young adults prioritize their own goals and desires over starting a family. The traditional view of family andparenthood has shifted, with many young people valuing freedom, independence, and self-fulfillment over the responsibilities of raising children.Furthermore, the impact of societal pressures and expectations also plays a role in young people's decision to delay or forgo having children. The pressure to excel in their careers, maintain a certain standard of living, and meet societal expectations of success can be overwhelming for many young adults. The fear of not being able to provide a stable and secure environment for their children also contributes to their reluctance to start a family.Additionally, the changing dynamics of relationships and marriage have influenced young people's attitudes towards having children. With the rise of cohabitation, delayed marriage, and the increase in divorce rates, many young adults are skeptical about the stability of long-term relationships and marriages. The fear of relationship breakdowns and the challenges of co-parenting can deter young couples from taking the leap into parenthood. Moreover, the impact of environmental concerns and overpopulation on young people's decision to have children cannot be ignored. With growing awareness of environmentalissues, climate change, and resource depletion, many young adults are hesitant to add to the population and contribute to the strain on the planet. The desire to live sustainably and lessen their environmental footprint can discourage young people from having children. In conclusion, the reluctance of young people to have children is a complex issue influenced by a combination of economic, social, cultural, and environmental factors. To address this trend effectively, it is crucial to understand the underlying reasons and provide support and resources to young couples who wish to start a family.

Young Chinese are becoming less and less reluctant to get married and have children. This is not a feeling, nor is it alarmist, but a close to the current reality: according to the economist Ren XX multiple surveys in the past three years, even if fertility is fully liberalized, the total fertility rate of willingness (the total number of children that women are willing to have in their lifetime) is only 1.30-1.75, which is equivalent to 1.0-1.4 of the actual births; only 1/3 of them are willing to have a second child, and as many as 15%~30% of young people choose not to have one.Although the "comprehensive two-child" was released in 2016, the total number of newborns in China began to decline year after climbing to 17.86 million that year, followed by 17.23 million, 15.23 million, 14.85 million in the next three years, and less than 15 million if there is no accident this year. More importantly: more than half of the newborns in these two years are second-born, which means that the main force of birth now wants to have a second child, and the younger people are reluctant to have a child - but if the first child does not want to have a second child, where will the second child come in the future? The reason for not having children may have been mainly infertility in the past (the incidence rate is now as high as nearly 15%, mainly due to the pressure of life after tomorrow), but in recent years, there havebeen more and more single, homosexual, and Dink families, and a survey by the Shanghai Women's Federation in 2002 has shown that Dink families account for 12.4% of the total number of families in Shanghai, and now this proportion will only be higher. The reality is that between 2013 and 2019, the total number of marriages in China fell from 13.469 million pairs to 9.273 million pairs, a drop of nearly one-third. For many young people, talking about the population crisis is very distant and empty, and they are too busy to cope with life, "even if they don't want to get married, how can they have children?"。

Title: Changing Attitudes Towards Having ChildrenIn recent years, there has been a noticeable shift in people's attitudes towards having children. With changing societal values, economic factors, and advancements in technology, the decision to have children has become a more complex and personal choice for many individuals and couples. One of the most significant factors driving the change in attitudes towards having children is the shift in societal values. In the past, having children was often seen as a necessary and expected part of adulthood. However, as society has become more individualistic and focused on personal fulfillment, many people are questioning whether parenthood is the right choice for them. There is a growing acceptance of alternative lifestyles and career paths that do not necessarily include children, and this has influenced many individuals to delay or forgo parenthood altogether.Economic factors also play a significant role in shaping people's attitudes towards having children. The cost of raising a child has skyrocketed in recent years, with expenses such as education, healthcare, and childcare becoming increasinglyunaffordable for many families. As a result, more people are choosing to wait until they are financially stable before starting a family, or are opting to have fewer children than previous generations. Additionally, the rise of dual-income households and the increasing prevalence of women in the workforce have made it more challenging for couples to balance career aspirations with the demands of parenthood.Technological advancements have also had an impact on people's attitudes towards having children. In the past, infertility was often seen as a barrier to parenthood, but with the advent of assisted reproductive technologies such as in vitro fertilization (IVF), more people are able to overcome fertility issues and conceive children. This has opened up new possibilities for individuals and couples who may have previously thought that they were unable to have children, and has led to a greater sense of control over the decision to start a family.Overall, the changing attitudes towards having children reflect the evolving values and priorities of modern society. While the decision to have children remains deeply personal and individual, it is clear that societal, economic, and technological factors are influencing the choices that people make about parenthood. As we continue to navigate the complexities ofmodern life, it is likely that attitudes towards having children will continue to evolve, shaping the ways in which we understand and experience familial relationships in the years to come.。

We may have suspected it already, but now the science backs it up: unmarried and childless women are the happiest subgroup in the population. And they are more likely tolive longer than their married and child-rearing peers, according to a leading expert in happiness.Speaking at the Hay festival, Paul Dolan, a professor of behavioral science at the London School of Economics, said the latest evidence showed that the traditional markers used to measure success did not correlate with happiness – particularly marriage and raising children."Married people are happier than other population subgroups, but only when their spouse is in the room when they’re asked how happy they are. When the spouse is not present” he said."We do have some good longitudinal data following the same people over time, but I am going to do a massive disservice to that science and just say: if you’re a man, you should probably get married; if you’re a woman, don’t bother.”Men benefited from marriage because they “calmed down”, he said. “You take less risks, you earn more moneyat work, and you live a little longer. She, on the other hand, has to put up with that, and dies sooner than if she never married. The healthiest and happiest population subgroup are women who neve r married or had children,” he said.Dolan’s latest book? Happy Ever After, cites evidence from the American Time Use Survey (ATUS), which compared levels of pleasure and misery in unmarried, married, divorced, separated and widowed individuals. The study found that levels of happiness reported by those who were married was higher than the unmarried, but only when their spouse was in the room. Unmarried individuals reported lower levels of misery than married individuals who were asked when their spouse was not present.Other studies have measured some financial and health benefits in being married for both men and women on average, which Dolan said could be attributed to higher incomes and emotional support, allowing married people to take risks and seek medical help. However, Dolan said men showed more health benefits from tying the knot, as they took fewer risks. Women’s health was mostly unaffected by marriage, with middle-agedmarried women even being at higher risk of physical and mental conditions than their single counterparts.Despite the benefits of a single, childless lifestyle for women, Dolan said that the existing narrative that marriage and children were signs of success meant that the stigma could lead some single women to feel unhappy."You see a single woman of 40, who has never had children –‘Bless, that’s a shame, isn’t it? Maybe one day you’ll meet the right guy and that’ll change.’ No, maybe she’ll meet the wrong guy and that’ll change. Maybe she’ll meet a guy who makes her less happy and healthy, and die sooner.”。
