A story of cycles-of seasons, years, people, generations, stretches back centuries.A story of farming which only exists now in the remoter, wilder region of the UK, where the land is too hard and the environment too harsh for farming to be an "agribusiness". Where success, survival of farms, their sheep are dependent on knowledge passed down through generations and shared between farmers and shepherds in a small, close-knit and mutually-dependent community. A story of people hefted to their land every bit as much as their sheep are hefted to their fells.A Walk in the Woods by Bill BrysonReviewed by T. BentlyHaving read all of Bill Bryson's travel books, this was the last one left. I hadn't read this because I had been told it was one of his weakest one. But I decided, through no other reason that I needed a hit of Bryson, to read it. People couldn't have been more wrong. From the very beginning of assessing the feasibility, arranging for Katz to accompany him to the purchasing of his equipment and the purchasing of "a large knife for killing bears and hillbillies", Bryson is at his absolute best. His cute eye is a wise witness to this beautiful but fragile but fragile trail. His encounters along the trail and Katz anti-social, childish antics (滑稽动作) make the first 150 pages more than a laugh-out-loud-hike. I couldn't have been more surprised. An adventure, a comedy, and a celebration, A Walk in the Woods is destined to become a modem classic.5.In The Shepherd's Life, James Rebanks takes readers through a shepherds' life ______.A. little noticed, and deeply attached to the harsh landB. alternated by the seasons and changed by the generationsC. featuring a hard struggle in the remote and beautiful areaD. spent in a profitable agricultural and friendly community6.What does the reviewer wants to convey by saying "People couldn't have been morewrong."?A. Bryson's travelling experience is laughable.B. Bryson's travel book is the best seller in travelling literature.C. A Walk in the Woods combines artistic quality well with natural beauty.D. It's a pity that people turn a blind eye to Bryson's travelling experience.DBackJoy Orthotic Seat:Easy,Drug-Free Relief from Back PainWhy BackJoy?BackJoy is an innovative device that provides relief from back discomfort by aiding in maintaining your posture (姿势)anywhere you sit, hard or soft seats.● Proven effective over 2.0 million units sold, durable to provide long-lasting support ● Recommended by doctors and nurses● Safe and effective a natural alternativeBack Pain Is A Problem!● We average over 9+ hours of sitting each day!● 80% of adults will suffer from back pain in their life ● Back pain is the No.2 reason for visiting the doctor● Mom was right:"Sit up straight!"How to useBackJoy is made small on purpose. It is designed to cradle the space around the two sitting bones at the base of your pelvis and must be smaller than your buttocks to do so.● Sit on top of itHandle goes in front and between your legs● Pull it tight & cup to fitFeel it cup & lift your hips above the seat from below youBACKJOY® FAQQ:When should I feel results?A:Many users experience immediate relief, and some require several weeks of regular use to feel the benefits of their BackJoy.Q:Will BackJoy work for my condition A:BackJoy will not cure your back pain, but it will relieve the pressures caused by sitting.*BackJoy seat products will not work for you if you have been confined to a wheel chair,or if you have trouble standing or walking for any length of time.7.Which of the following statements is True?______A.
Dear Ryan,I’m Lihua, one of your students.I would like to express my concerns regarding your plan to randomly divide students into pairs for post-class oral practice. To begin with,I'm in favor of your decision to start a spoken English seminar, which will surely benefit us. However,I’m afraid it'd be less effective, for they couldn’t cooperate well,if two students are randomly chosen.I think a set pair would be fine in the long run,for they could develop a close relationship during the practice. In the light of these concerns,I suggest allowing students to form teams voluntarily according to their interests, learning goals or language abilities.Besides,we could divide students into different levels or categories based on their oral proficiency or other relevant criteria which would better cater to each student’s needs.I'd appreciate it if you could take my suggestion into consideration.

1My Super Cool Exam StoryHi there! My name is Lily and I'm 10 years old. I just took a really important exam called the National Examination and I wanted to tell you all about it! It was super exciting and a little bit scary too.The exam was all about English, which is one of my favorite subjects in school. I love learning new words and reading cool stories from all around the world. My teacher said this exam would test how well I can use English in real life situations, not just memorize grammar rules and vocabulary. That sounded like a lot of fun to me!A few weeks before the exam, my parents and I started preparing. We read through past exam papers to get an idea of what kinds of questions would be asked. There were sections on writing letters, understanding advertisements, filling out forms, and even roleplaying conversations. It was like a big English adventure! My mom helped me practice writing formal letters and emails. I had to pretend I was ordering a product, making a complaint, or applying for a job. It was silly acting like a grownup, but also kind of exciting imagining my future career. Maybe I'll be a doctor, artist, or even a superhero when I grow up!The reading passages were my favorite part to practice. We read all sorts of interesting articles and stories about different cultures, inventions, and famous people. Then I had to answer comprehension questions about the main ideas, details, and vocabulary used. It was like being a detective, looking for clues in the text. Some of the trickiest exercises were the role-plays. I had to imagine myself in different social situations and have natural conversations. Like if I was meeting a new friend, going shopping, or ordering food at a restaurant. My dad and I would take turns playing the different roles and I had to respond appropriately. We had a lot of laughs trying to come up with silly accents and expressions! Finally, the big exam day arrived. I was a little nervous, but also ready to show off my English skills. The exam was split into different sections just like we had practiced. As I worked through each part, I remembered all the tips and strategies my parentshad taught me for managing my time, double-checking my work, and staying focused. Before I knew it, the exam was over!Waiting for my results felt like forever. But when they finally arrived, I had scored really well! My parents were so proud of me and I felt like I could take on the world. The exam might have been challenging, but it was also fun getting to use English in creative ways.Who knew that pretending to order pizza, reading about famous explorers, and practicing halloween conversations could help so much? I guess my teachers were right that the best way to really learn a language is to apply it to real situations you might actually encounter. Thanks to this exam, I feel much more confident using my English skills in my daily life. Maybe I'll even become an interpreter when I grow up and get to use English everywhere I go!Well, that's my exciting exam story. Study hard, believe in yourself, and don't forget to have fun with it. English can take you on all kinds of amazing adventures!篇2My Awesome FamilyHi there! My name is Lily and I'm 10 years old. I love reading, riding my bike, and hanging out with my awesome family. Today I'm going to tell you all about my super cool family members.First up is my mom. My mom is the best! She works really hard as a nurse at the hospital, helping sick people get better. Even though her job is tough, she always comes home with a smile on her face. She packs me yummy lunches and helps me with my homework when I get stuck. My favorite thing about my mom is her giving hugs - they make me feel so safe and loved. I'm lucky to have such a caring, hard-working mom. Then there's my dad. He's hilarious and tells the funniest jokes! My dad works at a big office downtown, but I'm not totally sure what he does. All I know is he types a lot on his computer and has lots of meetings. On weekends, he takes me to the park to play catch and we have awesome water balloon fights in the summer. Sometimes he lets me put whipped cream on his nose - he's such a good sport! I love my dad's goofy side.My big brother Jack just started high school this year. He's 15 and can be a typical grumpy teenager at times, but he's actually really cool. Jack is super smart and good at math and science. He helped me build a model volcano for my science fair project last year. It was so much fun when we made it erupt withbaking soda and vinegar! Jack plays on the school basketball team and I love cheering him on at his games. I look up to him and hope I can be as smart and talented as he is someday. My grandma is my favorite person in the whole world! Her real name is Josephine but I've called her Grams since I was a baby. Grams lives down the street from us in a cute little yellow house. She has a huge garden in her backyard and lets me help her plant flowers and vegetables. In the summer we pick strawberries and make delicious strawberry shortcakes together. Grams also makes the most amazing chocolate chip cookies - they're my biggest weakness! She taught me how to knit last year and we're working on making a scarf together. Spending time with Grams always makes me feel happy and cozy. The newest addition to our family is my baby cousin Emma. She was born 6 months ago and is just the sweetest, chubbiest little thing! Emma has the most adorable smile with cute dimples. Whenever I hold her, she grabs my finger with her tiny hand and it melts my heart. I can already tell Emma and I are going to be great friends as she grows up. I'll teach her all the fun games I know and she can play with my dolls. I'm so excited to have a baby cousin and can't wait to watch her grow!Lastly, I can't forget about my furry family members - our dogs Daisy and Buddy! Daisy is an old yellow lab who loves lounging in the sun and getting belly rubs. She's been in our family for as long as I can remember. Buddy is a hyper little corgi puppy that we just got a few months ago. He loves playing fetch and chasing squirrels in the backyard. Buddy also has the silliest habit of spinning in circles when he gets really excited. I love coming home from school to two happy, wagging tails greeting me at the door.As you can see, I have a pretty great family. From my loving parents to my awesome siblings and adorable pets, I'm surrounded by so many special people (and animals!). We have a lot of fun together, whether we're playing games, baking treats, or just hanging out at home. My family brings so much joy, laughter and craziness to my life. They support me, keep me entertained, and most importantly, they make me feel safe and loved. What more could a kid ask for? I'm thankful for each and every one of my family members.篇3My Best FriendHi everyone! My name is Lily and I'm 8 years old. Today I want to tell you all about my very best friend in the whole wide world - Fluffy! Fluffy is my pet bunny rabbit and she's the cutest, funniest, and just the bestest bunny ever.I got Fluffy for my 7th birthday last year. My parents surprised me with her and I was sooooo excited! I had been begging for a pet bunny for like forever. When I opened the box and saw her little twitchy nose and floppy ears, I just wanted to squeal with happiness. She was the most adorable ball of fluff I had ever seen!At first, Fluffy was pretty scared of me. She would hide in her little house whenever I came near her cage. But I was very patient and gentle, and soon she got used to me. I would sit next to her cage and read her stories or just talk to her in a soft voice. Eventually, she started coming out to sniff me and take little treats from my hand. Now Fluffy is my best buddy! In the mornings, I let her out of her cage to hop around my room while I get ready for school. She has lots of fun little tunnels and toys to play with. Sometimes she gets a bit cheeky and chews on things she's not supposed to, like my shoelaces or books. But I don't mind too much because she's just being her naturally curious bunny self.My favorite time is after school when I can really spend quality time with Fluffy. I'll make her a little salad with romaine lettuce, carrots, and berries - her favorites! Then we'll cuddle up together on the couch or the backyard grass. I just love the feeling of her soft, warm fur against my cheek. She's like a living, breathing teddy bear.Fluffy is super smart too. I've been teaching her all kinds of tricks like spinning in a circle, jumping through a hoop, and giving me high fives with her little paw. My friends think it's hilarious when she does her tricks. But I have to be careful not to overwork Fluffy because she gets sleepy after too many treats and tricks. Bunnies need lots of nap time!Even though Fluffy can't talk, I feel like we understand each other perfectly. When I'm sad, she snuggles up to me like she's giving me a hug. And when I'm happy, she gets all bouncy and does binkies (that's bunny talk for a jump for joy!). She's definitely my fuzzy little soulmate.Sometimes my friends ask if I ever get bored playing with Fluffy since she's "just a bunny." But I could never get bored of her! Every day with Fluffy is an adventure full of laughter, cuddles, and unconditional love. Plus, bunnies are wayyyy cooler than people think. Did you know they can see almost all the wayaround themselves without turning their heads? And they can jump reeeally high, like over a meter! How awesome is that?I learn so much just by observing Fluffy and taking care of her. Like how to be a responsible pet owner by cleaning her cage and giving her nutritious foods. And how to be patient, gentle and loving towards a little creature who depends on me. Most of all, Fluffy teaches me about the simple joys in life - appreciating nature, living in the present moment, and finding happiness in the smallest things. My parents joke that Fluffy is more my baby than a pet. And I guess that's kinda true! She relies on me for everything - food, water, cleaning, playtime, cuddles. And in return, she gives me her whole bunny heart. Caring for Fluffy has definitely helped me become more nurturing and responsible. Who knows, maybe I'll be a veterinarian or pet therapist when I grow up so I can help make pets and their owners as happy as me and Fluffy!Anyway, that's my story about why Fluffy is the best friend and pet bunny in the universe. We've been through so much together in just the last year - vacations, sleepovers, holidays, you name it. Fluffy is family to me. I don't know what I'd do without her twitchy little nose and velvety fur to come home to every day. Here's to many more years of bunny snuggles, carrotcrunches, and making hoppy memories with my one and only Fluff!篇4Hi there! My name is Emma, and I'm a 10-year-old student in the fifth grade. Today, I want to share my thoughts on the English section of the 2021 Gaokao exam, which is the big test that high school students in China take to get into college. Even though I'm still in primary school, I find the Gaokao super interesting, especially the English part!First of all, I think the reading comprehension passages in the 2021 Gaokao English paper were really cool! There was one passage about how animals use different strategies to survive in the wild, like camouflage, mimicry, and warning signals. I love learning about animals, so I found that passage fascinating. Another passage talked about the history of chocolate and how it became so popular around the world. Yum, chocolate is one of my favorite treats! The vocabulary questions were a bit tricky, but I like learning new words. Some of the words I didn't know were "vicissitude," which means a change in circumstances or fortune, and"assiduous," which means showing great care and perseverance. I'll have to remember those for my next spelling bee!As for the grammar section, I have to admit that some of the questions made my head spin a bit. There were questions about things like subjunctive moods, inverted sentences, and conditional clauses. Those topics are a little advanced for me right now, but I'm sure they'll make more sense when I'm older. The writing task was all about giving an opinion on whether students should be allowed to use electronic devices in the classroom. That's a really interesting topic! Personally, I think tablets and laptops can be helpful for research and taking notes, but phones can be distracting if students are constantly texting or playing games. I tried to balance both sides in my essay and provide a nuanced perspective, just like my teacher tells us to do.Overall, I think the 2021 Gaokao English paper was challenging but really engaging. It covered a wide range of topics and tested different skills like reading comprehension, vocabulary, grammar, and writing. Even though I'm still a kid, I can see why the Gaokao is such an important exam for high school students in China who want to pursue higher education.I'm sure the students who took the 2021 Gaokao worked incredibly hard to prepare for it. I hope they all did their best andfelt proud of their efforts, no matter how they scored. And for those who didn't do as well as they hoped, remember that the Gaokao is just one test, and there are many paths to success in life.As for me, I still have a few years before I have to start worrying about the Gaokao. In the meantime, I'll keep practicing my English skills, reading lots of books, and learning as much as I can. Who knows, maybe one day I'll be the one writing the Gaokao English paper instead of just analyzing it!Well, that's my take on the 2021 Gaokao English section. Thanks for reading, and happy studying, everyone!篇5My Big Trip to the Gaokao ExamHi! My name is Lily and I'm 10 years old. Last year I got to go on a really big adventure - I took the Gaokao university entrance exam! The Gaokao is a super important test in China that you have to pass to get into a good university. Even though I'm still in primary school, my parents wanted me to get some practice for when I'm older. Here's what happened on my big trip to the Gaokao exam!It was a sunny morning in June when my mom drove me to the exam site. There were so many big kids there, maybe 16 or 17 years old! They all looked really nervous, but I wasn't scared at all.I just thought it would be fun to try out the test. When I got my exam paper and pencils, I was surprised at how thick it was - there must have been over 100 pages! The first section was English. I actually thought the English part would be the easiest since I'm pretty good at it. But some of the reading passages were super long and hard to understand. There was one about black holes that went on forever! After English was math, which I'm okay at but not brilliant. There were lots of tough algebra problems that I didn't recognise. Geometry was hard too with all those shapes and angles. My brain started to feel like mush by the end! Then we had to write a huuuuge essay for the writing section. The topic was about whether schools should have uniforms. I wrote that I don't like uniforms because they're no fun and you can't express your personal style. But I ran out of time so my essay wasn't very long.By lunchtime I was already exhausted from all that testing. But there was still more to come after the break! We had to dosections on physics, chemistry, biology, history, geography and politics too. Whew, it just kept going and going. The physics was the worst - there were all these calculations about forces and motion that went way over my head. How does anyone understand that stuff? Chemistry was pretty interesting though. I loved learning about different types of chemical reactions, even if I didn't understand all the details. For biology, we had to label a million parts of a cell, which was kind of boring. But I thought the human body stuff was cool, especially learning about the digestive system. No wonder my stomach was rumbling so much during the exam!History was probably my best section. I wrote a ton about ancient Chinese dynasties and communist leaders like Mao Zedong. For geography, I got to talk about different landforms like mountains and rivers which I always enjoy.By the last section on politics, I could barely keep my eyes open anymore. Thank goodness the exam was finally over! My hand was cramped from writing for almost 10 hours straight. As I turned in my paper, I felt a huge weight lift off my shoulders. Even though I knew I didn't do that well, it was anincredible experience getting to take the Gaokao. Now I know what to expect for when it's my turn for real in a few years! After the exam, my parents took me out for a slushie to celebrate me being so brave. Even though certain parts were really, really hard, I'm proud of myself for trying my best. I have so much more respect now for all the high school students who take this intense exam for real every year.Well, that's the story of my big Gaokao adventure! It was tiring but also really fun getting to challenge myself. Who knows, maybe I'll be a Gaokao expert by the time I get to high school. But for now, I'm just glad to be back at elementary school where the tests are way easier. Let me know if you ever want to hear more crazy exam stories!篇6My Day at the FairYay, it's Saturday! That means no school and I get to sleep in late. I rolled out of bed around 10 AM and my mom said we were going to the big fair happening downtown. I loooove the fair - all the fun rides, yummy food, and cool games to play. I can't wait! After getting dressed, we piled into the car and headed to the fairgrounds. There were sooo many people there. The line to get tickets was really long but luckily my dad had gotten them ahead of time online. Once inside, I didn't know where to look first! The fair was huge with tons of stuff everywhere. The first thing we did was go on some rides. My favorite is always the rollercoasters. We got in line for the really big one called the Titan. As we were waiting, I watched it go upside down, corkscrews, and really fast. I was a little nervous but also excited. When it was finally our turn, we buckled in and away we went! My stomach felt like it was in my throat as we plunged down that first big hill. We went so fast and upside down a bunch of times. It was a blast! After that thrill ride, we walked around the fair some more. There were lots of games to play like throwing darts to pop balloons, knocking over milk bottles, and trying to toss rings onto bottles. I really wanted to win a giant stuffed animal. I gave the ring toss a few tries but couldn't get the rings over the bottles. Oh well, maybe next time!As we kept strolling around, the smells of all the delicious fair food hit my nose. There were stands selling funnel cakes, candy apples, cotton candy, corn dogs, and more. My favorite isalways the funnel cakes! We stopped and got a big one covered in powdered sugar. It was still hot and melty in the middle. Soooo good! While enjoying our sweet treat, we watched some of the live shows happening. First was a juggler who could juggle all kinds of things like flaming batons, knives, and balls while riding a unicycle! That looked really hard. Next was a magician who did all sorts of cool tricks like making his assistant disappear and pulling a bunny out of his hat. Magic shows are so much fun to watch and try to figure out how they do it.After the shows, I saw they had pony rides for kids. I loooove animals so we went over and I got to ride around the circle on a sweet little pony named Butterscotch. She was adorable with her brown fur and white spotches. Riding her made me want to take riding lessons! We spent a few more hours just wandering around, playing games, and going on some smaller rides. My dad won me a small teddy bear from one of the games which I loved. As it started to get dark, we went and found a good spot to watch the fireworks show. I'd been looking forward to this all day! When night fell, the first fireworks started bursting up in the sky. Bright reds, greens, golds and more lit up the sky in shapeslike smiley faces, hearts and stars. Each explosion was followed by a huge "Ooooh!" from the crowd. Fireworks are just so magical and pretty. I was in awe watching them dance across the sky. After the big finale, it was time to head home. I was exhausted but had had the best day ever at the fair. From the crazy rides and games to the shows, animals, and fireworks - it was all just so fun. I told my parents they better take me back again next year! The fair is definitely one of my favorite events. I'll be dreaming about those funnel cakes until then!。
