Miss Emily
A strange thing happened to me last Sunday. It was such a beautiful day that I drove to go for a look in the country.
上个星期天有一件有趣的事情发生在我身上，那是美好的一天，所以我决定开车去乡下观光。

On the way back home, my car stopped. It was out of gas on a lonely road far from a town. I decided to walk until I found someone who could sell some gas.
在回家的路上我的车停了。

没有汽油了，而且前不着村后不着店的。

I had walked almost a mile before I finally found a house near the road. I was glad to see it because it was getting dark.

I quickly explained that my car was out of gas, but she didn’t seem to hear me. She just kept calling me Alfred and talking about how long it had been since she had seen me. She was acting very strangely and I was anxious to leave. As soon as she went to get tea, I went out of the house as fast as I could.
我马上解释说我的车没油了，但是她好像没听到我说的话似的。

她还是继续叫我艾福瑞并且还喋喋不休地说她有多长时间没有见过我。

她的举动这么奇怪使我有种想马上离开的冲动。

Fortunately, there was another house down the road and I was able to buy the gas I needed. When I told the man about my experience, he said, “Oh that’s Miss Emily. She lives by herself in that big house. She’s out of her mind, but she wouldn’t hurt anyone. She is still waiting for the man she was supposed to marry thirty years ago. The day before their wedding he left home and never came back because of the war.”
