语鹅市安置阳光实验学校湖北2016高考英语阅读理解精练(3)阅读下列四篇短文,从每小题后所给的A,B,C或D四个选项中,选出最佳选项。

Below is a selection from a popular science book.If blood is red,why are veins(静脉) blue?Actually, veins are not blue at all. They are more of a clear, yellowish colour.Although blood looks red when it's outside the body, when it's sitting in a vein near the surface of the skin,it's more of a dark reddish purple colour. At the right depth, these bloodfilled veins reflect less red light than the surrounding skin, making them look blue by comparison. Which works harder, your heart or your brain? That kind of depends on whether you're busy thinking or busy exercising.Your heart works up to three times harder during exercise, and shifts enough blood over a lifetime to fill a supertanker. But,in the long run, your brain probably tips it,because even when you're sitting still your brain is using twice as much energy as your heart, and it takes four to five times as much blood to feed it.Why do teeth fall out,and why don't they grow back in grownups?Baby (or “milk”) teeth do not last long;they fall out to make room for bigger, stronger adult teeth later on.Adult teeth fall out when they become damaged, decayed and infected by bacteria.Once this second set of teeth has grown in,you're done. When they're gone, they're gone. This is because nature figures you're set for life, and what controls regrowth of your teeth switches off.Do old people shrink as they age?Yes and no.Many people do get shorter as they age. But,when they do,it isn't because they're shrinking all over. They simply lose height as their spine(脊柱) becomes shorter and more curved due to disuse and the effects of gravity(重力).Many (but not all) men and women do lose height as they get older.Men lose an average of 34 cm in height as they age, while women may lose 5 cm or more.If you live to be 200 years old, would you keep shrinking till you were, like 60 cm tall, like a little boy again? No,because old people don't really shrink! It is not that they are growing backwards—their legs, arms and backbones getting shorter. When they do get shorter,it's because the spine has shortened a little.Or,more often, become more bent and curved. Why does spinning make you dizzy(眩晕的)?Because your brain gets confused between what you're seeing and what you're feeling. The brain senses that you're spinning using special gravityandmotionsensing organs in your inner ear, which work together with your eyes to keep your vision and balance stable. But,when you suddenly stop spinning the system goes out of control, and your brain thinks you're moving while you're not!Where do feelings and emotions come from?Mostly from an ancient part of the brain called the limbic system. All mammals have this brain area—from mice to dogs, cats, and humans. So all mammals feel basic emotions like fear, pain and pleasure. But since human feelings also involve other, newer bits of the brain,we feel more complex emotions than any other animal on the planet. If exercise wears you out,how can it be good for you?Because our bodies adapt to everything we do to them. And as far as your body is concerned,it's “use it,or lose it”!It's not that exercise makes you healthy;it's more that a lack of exercise leaves your body weak and easily affected by disease.1.What is the colour of blood in a vein near the surface of the skin? A.Blue. B.Light yellow.C.Red. D.Dark reddish purple.解析细节理解题。

高考英语二轮复习阅读练习附答案Fear and its companion pain are two of the most useful things that man and animals possess if they are used. If fire didn’t hurt when it burned, children would play with it until their handswere burned away. Similarly, if pain existed but fear didn’t, a child could burn itself again and again because fear would not warn it to keep away from the fire that had burnt it before. Areally fearless soldier—and some do exist—is not a good soldier because he is soon killed; and a dead soldier is of no use to his army. Fear and pain are therefore two guards without which manand animals might soon die out.In our first sentence we suggested that fear ought to be properly used. If, for example, you never go out of your house because of the danger of being knocked down and killed in the street bya car, you are letting fear rule you too much. The important thing isnot to let fear rule you, but instead, to use fear as your servant and guide. Fear will warn you of dangers; then you haveto decide what action to take.In many cases, you can take quick and successful action to avoid the danger. For example, you see a car coming straight towards you; fear warns you, you jump out of the way, and all is well.In some cases, however, you decide that there is nothing that you can doto avoid the danger. For example, you cannot prevent an airplane crashing into your house, and you may not want to goand live in a desert where there are no airplanes. In this case, fearhas given you its warning, you have examined it and decided on your course of action, so fear of the particular danger isno longer of any use to you, and you have to try to overcome it.60. Children would play with fire until their hands are burnt away if_________.A. they were not well educated at schoolB. they had never played withfire beforeC. they had no sense of painD. they were fearful of pain61. People sometimes succeed in timely avoiding danger because _________.A. they have gained experienceB. they are warned of the danger and take quick actionC. they jump out of the way in timeD. they are calm in face of danger62. What is implied but not stated in the passage?A. Too much fear is harmfulB. Fear is always something helpfulC . Fear is something that can be avoidedD. Fear ought to be used as our guide in our life63. The best title for this passage should be __________.A. No Pains, No GainsB. Pain and ActionsC. The Value of Fear D . 语鹅市安置阳光实验学校四川万源市2016高考英语阅读理解二轮训练(2)阅读理解训练Big cats have existed on the earth for millions of years, though scientists aren't sure exactly how long. But a new study indicates that a skull(颅骨) of a snow leopard(豹) relative that was recently unearthed is 4.4 million years old. That makes it the oldest big cat fossil(化石) ever found.A team of US and Chinese scientists unearthed the skull in Tibet. This creature is not a direct ancestor to big cats, but it is closely related to the snow leopard, study leader Jack Tseng told the Associated Press. The fossil lends evidence to the belief that big cats existed in Asia and spread out from there.Big cats are at the top of the food chain and have few predators of their own. Big cats include snow leopards, clouded leopards, tigers and lions. Based on genetic judgements, most scientists believe they first existed in Central Asia. But previously, the oldest known big cat fossil was 3.6 million years old and found in Africa. The new fossil findings were published in the November 13 issue of the science journal Proceedings of the Royal Society B: Biological Sciences. Tseng and his team were fossil hunting in the Himalayas in 2010 when they discovered some bones, including the buried cat skull. The researchers were able to determine its age by studying the surrounding rocks and soil. The skull indicates that the animal was about the size of a clouded leopard, which can grow up to 50 pounds. In 2012, the team returned to unearth more cat bones.David Polly from Indiana University told the Associated Press that the fossil is “convincingly older than the_current_record_holder”. He added that there could be even older big cat fossils in the Tibetan plateau to uncover.文章大意:本文讲述了最新考古发现——一个大型猫科动物的颅骨化石。

手惰市安逸阳光实验学校任务型阅读理解03五、Kids and PondsYears ago there was a group of kids who would hang around at some local ponds in the woods near their houses in Warwick, Rhode Island. In summer they caught frogs and fish. When winter arrived they couldn’t wait to go skating. Time passed, and the ponds became the only open space for the kids to enjoy themselves in that neighborhood. One day. a thirteen-year-old boy from this group of kids read in the local newspaper that a developer wanted to fill in the ponds and build over a hundred small houses called condominiums. So the boy went door to door and gathered more than two hundred signatures (签名)to stop the development A group of citizens met and decided to support him.At the meeting of the town planning board (会),the boy was quite nervous at first and spoke very softly. But when he saw the faces of his friends and neighbors in the crowd and thought about what was happening to their favorite ponds, his voice grew louder. He told the town officials that they should speak for the citizens. He also insisted that they should leave enough space for children. A few days later, the developer stopped his plan.Nine years later, when that teen was a senior in college, he was informed that the developer was back with his proposal to build condominiums. Now twenty-two years old, he was studying wetlands ecology. He again appeared before the town planning board. This time as an expert witness, he used environmental protection laws to explain restrictions on development in and around wetlands and the knowledge of wetlands ecology to help improve the development. Finally some condominiums were built, but less than half the number the developer wanted. The ponds where those kids used to hang around were protected by a strip of natural land, and are still there today.81. 高考英语二轮复习专项训练阅读理解及解析一、高中英语阅读理解1.阅读理解“Years ago when I was at the Grand Canyon, I remembered someone coming up to the canyon's edge, taking a shot with a camera and then walking away, like 'got it – done', barely even glancing at the magnificent sc ene in front of him,” Linda Henkel, a scientist at Fairfield University, US told Live Science.Henkel was surprised by how obsessed (痴迷的) people are with taking pictures these days - before dinner, during friends' birthday parties, on museum tours and so on.They keep taking pictures because they think that it helps record the moment, but as Henkel's latest study has just found out, this obsession may prevent their brains remembering what actually happened, reported The Guardian. In her study, Henkel led a group of college students around a museum and asked them to simply observe 15 objects and photograph 15 others. The next day the students' memory of the tour was tested, and the results showed that they were less accurate in recognizing the objects and they remembered fewer details about them if they photographed them.''When people rely on technology to remember them — counting on the camera to record the event and thus not needing to attend to it fully themselves, it can have a negative impact on how well they remember their experiences,” Henkel explained. But there is also an exception: if students zoomed in to photograph part of an object, their memory actually improved, and those who focused the lens (镜头) on a specific area could even recall parts that weren't in the frame. So basically, this study is saying that constantly taking pictures can harm your memory. But shouldn't reviewing pictures we have taken help wake up our memories? This is true, but only if we spend enough time doing it.“In order to remember, we have to access and interact with the photos, rather than just collect them,” Henkel told The Telegraph. However, previous research has shown that most people never take the time to look over their digital pictures simply because there are too many of them and they aren't usually very organized on their computers.(1)Why did the author mention Henkel's trip to the Grand Canyon at the beginning? A. To complain about some tourists' bad habits. B. To give suggestions on how to enjoy one's tour.C. To point out people's obsession with taking pictures.D. To describe the beautiful view of the Grand Canyon.(2)What can we learn from Henkel's study?A. Reviewing pictures always helps people bring back memories easily.B. Taking pictures in a museum tour helps students recognize objects better.C. People should spend more time taking pictures than studying real objects.D. Pictures focusing on the details of objects probably improve people's memories.(3)The underlined word “it” in Paragraph 5 probably refers to “________”.A. the cameraB. technologyC. the eventD. an object(4)What is the article mainly about?A. People's obsession with taking pictures and its influence.B. Possible ways of using pictures to improve one's memory.C. Great harm to memory caused by taking pictures constantly.D. They Just Can't Help ItMy theory is that the female brain is mainly built for empathy —the ability to understand other people —and that the male brain is mainly built for building systems. ________ For example, women are more likely to read magazines on fashion and parenting, while men will choose magazines that feature computers and sport. You may think that these preferences are influenced by the way people are taught to behave when they are growing up. However, this is not the case. A new study carried out at Cambridge University shows that newborn girls look longer at a face, and newborn boys look longer at a mobile. ________ It has also been observed that girls are better at noticing signs of changes in other people's feelings. Boys, however, seem to enjoy building toy towers and playing with toys which have clear functions. ________ People whose jobs are in the construction industries are almost male. Math and engineering, which require high levels of systems-thinking, are also male-chosen disciplines. Why do men and women have the difference? Actually women have four times as many brain neurons (神经) that connect the right and left part of their brains. Because of it, women have a better ability to multitask than men. ________ Men tend to focus on a limited number of problems at a time. They will separate themselves from problems and view tasks as independent from one another. Some people may worry that I am suggesting one gender (性别) is better than the other, but this is not the case. My theory says that males and females differ in the kinds of things that they find easy, but that both genders have their strengths and weaknesses. ________ It is not true. The study simply looks at males and females as two groups, and asks what differences exist, and why they are there.A. Generally speaking, there are clear differences.B. Their preference for building systems may change over time.C. You can see the same kind of pattern in the adult workplace.D. They will consider many sources of information at the same time.E. It is important to stress that the female brain may be built more for empathy.F. That suggests certain differences between male and female brains are biological.G. Others may think the theory creates a belief of what a particular type of person is like.【答案】 A;F;C;D;G【解析】【分析】本文是一篇说明文,阐述男性与女性差异各有优缺点。

四川万源市2021高考英语阅读理解二轮训练(1)阅读理解训练Finally, I entered the university. Because of my careful savings, I did not have to work during the school year. Then, summer came and it was time to work harder than ever. I continued working as a waitress at night, instructed tennis camps several mornings a week and worked as a secretary for a few hours in the afternoons. I even decided to take a class at a community (社区) college. This class at the community college saved me $650. It was an extremely tiring summer and made me anxious to return to my relatively easy life at the university.During my second and third years of undergraduate schooling, I decided to work about five hours per week in the campus (校园) admissions office answering phones. This provided a little spending money and kept me from drawing my savings out. I wanted to go to Israel to study for 3 weeks, but I hesitated in making this decision because it would cost me $1,600 more to get the credits in Israel. About two weeks later my Mom called to tell me that I had $1,600 in the bank that I had forgotten about! One of my concerns about this trip was not only the cost, but the loss of time to make money; however, I made as much that summer in the ten weeks when I was at home as I had made during the fourteen weeks when I was at home the summer before. The way everything worked together to make this trip possible was one of the most exciting things that have ever happened to me.This experience has shaped me in many important ways. The first thing that I learned was the importance of a strong work ethic (伦理). Working long hours did a lot to develop my character and helped me learn the value of a dollar. It also made me learn how to search for creative ways to settle difficult situations.文章大意:在上大学期间,作者充分利用课余时间从事一些兼职工作,取得了不错的收入,更重要的是,这种工作经历使作者熟悉到了工作伦理的重要性,而且也学会了如何应对困难局面。

Have you ever looked toward the sky on a fall day and witnessed a group of migrating birds? If so, you probably noted the V-shaped formation of the birds or the birds flying in a ball-like formation. Why do birds fly this way? Many theories have been developed to explain the formation patterns of different types of birds. One theory is that birds fly in certain formations to take advantage of the laws of nature. The birds know that flying in a V-shaped pattern will save energy. Like the lead cyclist in a race who decreases wind force for the cyclists who follow, the lead bird cuts wind force for the birds that follow. This decrease in wind force means that the birds use up to 70 percent less energy during their flight. When the lead bird becomes tired, a more rested bird takes over that position. But saving energy is important for more than one reason. Sometimes food is short during migration flights. Keeping energy enables the birds to fly longer distances between meals. When food is sighted, the birds guide one another in a different way. When a bird identifies a familiar feeding area, it might turn around in order to signal the group to change direction. Then, this bird becomes the new leader. It helps guarantee that other birds will know exactly where it is going. Then the whole group makes a change in direction, gently streaming from the sky down to the ground. This formation is like an arrow pointing to the location of food.Scientists have also studied the birds that sometimes fly in a ball-like formation. Researchers believe that the birds come together if a predator(天敌) is spotted. The predator may then become impatient waiting for a single bird to fly away from the group. The birds will often dip and dive as a group, frustrating even the most persistent enemy. Scientists report that this is a very effective method of defense against an attack. The birds care for their fellow fliers through teamwork. As transportation expert Henry Ford once said, “If everyone is moving forward together, then success takes care of itself.” When it comes to teamwork, these feathered fliers are a soaring success!1. Susan was born as the ninth child in a Catholic family. Her siblings, who were much older, had life experiences that were unknown to their little sister. From the time of her birth, Susan was a screamer. 【江苏省苏锡常镇四市2014模拟调研】CThe closest known relative of the ancestors of limbed(肢体)animals such as humans may have evolved the foundation for back legs even before the move to land, researchers say. This ancestor may have even been able to walk underwater, they add. These findings reveal that a key step in the evolution of back limbs happened in fish, challenging previous theories that such appendages(附肢)evolved only after the move to land.Scientists investigated fossils(化石)of a 375-million-year-old fish known as Tiktaalik, discovered in 2004 in northern Canada's Ellesmere Island. Possessing a broad flat head andsharp teeth, Tiktaalik resembled a cross between a fish and a crocodile, growing to a length of 9 feet (2.7 meters) as it hunted for its food in shallow freshwater. This ancient creature was undoubtedly a fish. However, it also had features seen in modern tetrapods(四足动物).This ancient fish had large forefins and shoulders, elbows and partial wrists, enabling it to support itself on ground. This makes it the best-known example of a link between finned(鳍)animals and limbed animals marking the evolutionary change from water to land for creatures with backbones.Previous analyses of other fossils dating from the water-land change found their backappendages were small and weak compared with their front appendages. This suggested theearliest ancestors of tetrapods perhaps had a "front-wheel drive" form of movement thatdepended more on their front limbs, and that a "four-wheel drive" form of movement with strong hips and back limbs only developed after tetrapods evolved.Until now, the only fossils of Tiktaalik researchers had examined were of its front parts. To find out more about the fish, researchers investigated additionalblocks of rock recovered from the dig site where Tiktaalik was discovered. Although some of these blocks were first dug in 2004, researchers did not look at them more closely until recently, mainly because the blocks did not seem to contain much bone. Moreover, it took years to carefully and properly remove the rock surrounding the fragile fossils. The scientists discovered the back part of Tiktaalik. This made a direct comparison of the front and back appendages of the animal possible. Unexpectedly, the researchers found Tiktaalik had big, strong pelvic(胃盆)bones with similarities to early tetrapods."I was expecting to find a diminutive back fin and pelvis," study lead author Neil Shubin, a paleontologist at the University of Chicago, told LiveScience. "Seeing the huge pelvis set me back a bit-I looked at it again and again, because I was quite surprised."Shubin cautioned that Tiktaalik is not the ancestor of all limbed vertebrates. It is currently the closest known relative, "but not the only, direct ancestor," he said. "It is more like our closest cousin."63.According to the passage, previous findings show that_.A. the evolution of back limbs happened under the waterB. the ancestors of limbed animals could walk underwaterC. the back legs of limbed animals evolved after the transition to living on landD. tetrapods had a "four-wheel drive" form of movement before they evolved64. Scientists think the findings of Tiktaalik are significant because_.A. Tiktaalik is the earliest fish living on the earthB. Tiktaalik fills a gap between fish and limbed animalsC. Tiktaalik is the only closest known relative of limbed animalsD. Tiktaalik gives them a chance to compare the front and back limbs 65.Why didn't the researchers examine the fossils of the back part of Tiktaalik many years ago?A. Because the blocks contained too much bone of Tiktaalik.B .Because Tiktaalik is not the ancestor of all limbed animals.C. Because the research of fossils is a slow and time-consuming process.D. Because the fossils were discovered in northern Canada's Ellesmere Island.66. What does the underlined word "diminutive" in Paragraph 8 mean?A. Unique.B. Complete.C. Flexible.D. Small.【参考答案】 63—65、CBC 66、D【江苏省苏锡常镇四市2014模拟调研】DIn many American schools the holiday celebrating Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.'s birthday is used as an opportunity to teach children about his life and legacy. But in too many of those same schools, Black children's extraordinary talents are still being wasted today. Nearly three-quarters of Black fourth and eighth grade public school students cannot read or compute at grade level.Black students made up only 18 percent of students in public schools in 2009-2010 but were 40 percent of students who received one or more out-of-school suspensions (暂被停学).A Blackpublic school student is suspended every four seconds. Black students are more than twice aslikely to drop out of school as White students. Each school day 763 Black high school students drop out.So I applaud the U.S. Departments of Education and Justice for their recent action toaddress harmful school discipline policies that push so many thousands of black children out of school each year and into the juvenile(青少年)justice and adult prison pipeline. If the education system is to do its part in replacing it with a cradle to college, career and success pipeline, we must end the current practice where children in the greatest need are suspended from school mostly for nonviolent offenses. These resources, officially known as "guidance," will help schools and districtsmeet their legal responsibility to protect students from discrimination on the basis of race, color or national origin as required under Title VI of the Civil Rights Act of 1964. As we recognize the 50th anniversary of the Civil Rights Act of 1964 and so many other important hard-won victories in the Civil Rights Movement this year, we must remember those victories could be lost without meaningful enforcement of the laws advocates fought so hard to win half a century ago. While the guidance does not prohibit schools or districts from using any particularnondiscriminatory policy, it does call into question some policies that have historically excludedBlack students and are of questionable educational value including "zero tolerance" disciplinepolicies which require mandatory(强制的)consequences for certain infractions(违反),and policies that prevent students from returning to school after completion of a court sentence.Information of the new guidance recommendations is available at this government website for almost every school and district in the country. Check your own school district now to see whether the discipline policy is focused on creating a positive school climate and preventing misbehavior, whether consequences are clear, appropriate and consistent, and whether there is a commitment to fairness in the application of discipline.67. What does the first paragraph mainly talk about?A. Unsatisfa ctory situation of Black students’education.B .Life and legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.C .The percentage of Black students dropping out of school.D. The holiday celebrating Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.’s birthday.68.The guidance issued by the U.S. Departments of Education and Justice may_.A. protect Black children from being suspended for nonviolent offensesB .prevent Black children from coming back to school after a court sentenceC. push thousands of Black children out of school each yearD .punish Black children for dropping out of school69. According to the passage, the "zero tolerance" discipline policies_·A. have questionable consequencesB .are prohibited by the guidanceC .prevent Black children from being absent from schoolD. were considered discriminatory when they were released70.
