基础部分
(来自2016中考英语模拟)阅读下面短文或图表,并选择正确答案。
Some body languages may have different meanings in different countries. Here are three examples.
Handshakes are popular in the US and suitable for use between men and women. However, in Muslim cultures, men may not shake hands or touch women in any way. In Hindu cultures, Hindu men may never shake hands with women. Instead, they greet women by placing their hands as if praying.
The thumbs up gesture could show “OK” or “good” in countries
like the US, France and Germany. But this same gesture is
insulting in other countries like Iran, Bangladesh and Thailand,
where it has the same meaning as showing the middle finger in the
US.
“Making a circle with one’s thumb and index finger while extending the others” has the m eaning of “OK” in America. In China, we always take it as number three. Of course, we use it as “OK” as well at present. However, in Japan and Korean it means “money”. Learning a culture’s body language is sometimes confusing. If you don’t know what to do, the safest thing to do is to smile.

阅读下列短文,从每小题所给的A、B、C、D四个选项中选出一个最佳选项。
Dad hurried to get home before dark so he could go for a run,but he had forgotten to wear his safety belt— a mistake 75% of the US population make every day. Maybe ten-year-old Elizabeth put it best when she said to her father," But, Dad, you can't be healthy if you're dead." The big question is why so many people drive cars without wearing safety belts.
