Introducing electric vehicles (EVs) and reducinggasoline use are helping, but zerocarbon hydrogen can speed up both the transition (转变) and longt erm decarbonization of transport. In the US, transportation produces the largest share of all greenhouse gas emissions (排放) in the economy at 29%, according to the Environmental Protection Agency. More than 90% of transport fuel is petrolbased, but if mor e vehicles used hydrogen, emissions of this kind would plummet. However, hydrogen is not considered an ideal replacement for gasoline as an engine fuel for cars because it is harder to store safely. And while fuel cell electric vehicles (FCEVs) that turn hydrogen into electricity can compete with EVs in performance—and even outcompete them on the range and refill time, extra energy is needed to produce the hydrogen needed for fuel. Also, finding investment for storage, pipelines and fuel stations is still a challenge for many nations.Currently, governments worldwide are backing green hydrogen projects to reduce greenhouse gas emissions in heavy industries like freight (货运), steel, and energy storage. But hydrogen transport will need rapid production methods to create the fuel needed for the world's road fleet.Thankfully, research is advancing all the time. Nanoscale (纳米的) thin films are applied to improving the chemical process to rapidly harvest hydrogen from the sea water. The same technology has been successfully used in solar power devices. Since hydrogen is the most abundant element in the universe and as sea water makes up about 96% of all water on Earth, there is a virtually limitless supply.Even wastewater and solid waste can create green hydrogen. Researchers at Princeton University are using sunlight to separate hydrogen from industrial wastewater. Chemical plants that currently face high costs for cleaning wastewater could transform it into clean hydrogen supplies.4.What does the underlined word “plummet” mean in Paragraph 2?A.Stop. 一轮复习高考英语专题复习阅读理解(附答案)一、高中英语阅读理解1.阅读理解Eating red meat is linked to cancer and heart disease, but are the risks big enough to justify giving up juicy burgers and delicious steaks? Probably not, according to researchers who reviewed data from 12 clinical trials involving about 54,000 people. In a series of controversial papers, the researchers argue that the increased health risks tied to red meat are small and uncertain, and that cutting back likely wouldn't be worth it for people who enjoy meat. Those conclusions go against established medical advice. They were swiftly attacked by a group of famous U.S. scientists who took the unusual step of trying to stop the papers from being published until their criticisms were addressed. The new work does not say red or processed meats like hot dogs and bacon are healthy, or that people should eat more of them. The team's reviews of past studies generally support the ties to cancer, heart disease and other bad health outcomes. But the authors say the evidence is weak, and that there's not much certainty meat is really the cause, since other diet and lifestyle factors could be at play.If the latest example of how divisive nutrition research has become, with its uncertainties leaving the door open for conflicting advice. Critics say findings often aren't backed by strong evidence. Defenders counter that nutrition studies can rarely be conclusive because of the difficulty of measuring the effects of any single food, but that methods have improved.Based on their analyses, the researchers said people do not have to cut back for health reasons. But they noted that their own advice is weak, and acknowledged that they didn't consider factors such as animal welfare and the environment. Indeed, the case that meat production is bad for animal welfare and the environment is stronger than the case that it's bad for human health, according to an editorial that accompanies the report. Not all of the report authors agreed with its conclusions. Three of the 14 researchers said they support reducing red and processed meats. A coauthor of one of the reviews is also among those who called for a publication delay. Those who pushed to postpone publication also questioned why certain studies were included in the reviews while others were left out.As for his own diet, Dr. Gordon Guyatt, a member of the international research team that conducted the reviews, said he no longer thinks red or processed meats have significant health risks. But he said he still avoids them out of habit, and for animal welfare and environmental reasons.(1)What is the author's purpose in writing the passage?A.To introduce a new relationship between health and eating red meat.B.To urge more people to keep away from eating red meat regularly.C.To present a new controversial view on impacts of eating red meat.D.To criticize nutrition studies for lacking of conclusive evidence.(2)What is the author's attitude towards the new research?A.Doubtful.B.Positive.C.Disapproving.D.Objective.(3)Guyatt's avoiding red meats has the weakest connection with_______.A.health risksB.diet habitsC.animal welfareD.environmental protection(4)What can we learn from the recent research?A.Red meats don't have significant health risks.B.Reducing meat consumption will be worth it.C.The report authors have reached a consensus.D.Consuming red meat will do good to health.【答案】(1)C(2)D(3)A(4)A【解析】【分析】本文是一篇议论文,作者对于吃红肉是否与癌症和心脏病有关引用了研究发现、结果、例子等客观数据和事实来写这篇文章。

AIn 1959, when Jean Harper was in the third grade, her teacher gave the class an assignment to write a report on what they wanted to be when they grew up.Jean’s father was a crop dusting pilot in the little farming community in Northern California where she was raised, and Jean was very interested in airplanes and flying. She poured her heart into her report and included all of her dreams. She wanted to be a crop dusting pilot, make parachute jumps(跳伞), and be an airline pilot. Her paper came back with an "F" on it. The teacher told her it was a "fairy tale" and that none of the occupations she listed were women’s jobs. Jean was devastated and humiliated. One day in her senior year of high school, her English teacher Mrs Dorothy Slaton gave the class an assignment. "If you had unlimited money, unlimited access to the finest schools, and unlimited talents and abilities, what would you do?" Jean felt a rush of her old enthusiasm, and with excitement she wrote down all her old dreams. The teacher leaned forward over her desk and said, "You do have unlimited abilities and talents. When you leave school, if you don’t go for your dreams, no one will do it for you. You can have what you want if you want it enough."The hurt and fear of years of discouragement went away because of what Mrs Slaton had said. Jean felt excited and a little scared. She stayed after class and went up to the teacher’s desk. Jean thanked Mrs Slaton and told her about her dream ofbecoming a pilot. Mrs Slaton half rose and slapped the desk top. "Then do it!" she said.So Jean did. It didn’t happen overnight. It took her 10 years of hard work. It wasn’t in Jean’s nature to stand up for herself w hen someone refused or humiliated her. The summer of Skyler's fourth year was when it started.A smoldering (郁积的) ember of understanding in him sparked, and fanned by our efforts, steadily flamed. His first words were hardly recognizable, often out of context, never spontaneous. Then, slowly, he could point to an item and say a word. Then two words together as a request. Then spontaneous words. Each day, he added more and more recognizable words, using them to identify pictures and ask questions. We could see his understanding increase, till his eyes would seek out mine, wanting to comprehend.“You Mom?〞 he said one day.“Yes, Skyler, I'm Mom.〞He asked his teachers and caregivers, “You Mom?〞“No, Skyler, not Mom.〞“You my Mom?〞 he said back to me.“Yes, Skyler, I'm your Mom.〞And finally, a rush of understanding in his eyes, “You my Mom.〞“Yes, Skyler, I'm your Mom.〞If those had been Skyler's only words ever, they would have been enough for me:My son knew I was his mother. But Skyler wasn't done. One evening I leaned against the headboard on Skyler's bed, my arms wrapped around him.He was cozily tucked between my legs, our bodies warm and snug as I read to him from one of his favorite books—a typical affectionate(深情的) scene between mother and son, but because of Skyler's autism, one that I could never take for granted.I stopped reading.Skyler had interrupted me, leaning back his head so he could look me in the eyes.“Yes, Skyler?〞And then the voice of an angel, the voice of my son, “I love you, Mom.〞【语篇解读】本文真实地记录了作者作为一位自闭症孩子的母亲的心路历程。

All parents know that one of their most important tasks is to prepare their children for an independent life, but any parent can tell you that it’s hard to let go of your child ren. That balance between keeping your children safe and allowing them to learn from their own mistakes can be heartbreaking.Years of experience means that parents often do know best, but on the other hand, the young, being less bound by tradition, are often more creative, more able to find new solutions to old problems.Revolutions are led by the young.Good teachers make the growth of critical (批判性的) thinking easier in their students, only to find that this can lead to a questioning of the teachers’ basic beliefs.Schools encourage parents to become involved, but are often embarrassed when parents have reservations about some of the educational methods being used.Governments encourage unimportant groups to empower themselves in order to participate fully in the development process. And they are often surprised when the new leaders of these groups turn around and attack the policies of that same government. The rebellions (叛逆的)young and the newly unimportant groups are important in social development. They are not necessarily representatives of those they want to represent or not realistic in their demands, but their voices must be heard.Good parents know that just forbidding particular behaviors does not prevent their children from finding ways to engage in these forbidden activities.Indeed, sometimes the forbidden fruit is more inviting, just because it is not accepted by authority.Parents must work with their children to educate them on the facts, know as much as possible about he lives of their children, provide a good example, encourage more wholesome activities but also support their children when they don’t follow what is expected of them. But the most important point is that they also need to learn how to let go.1.By saying “Revolutions are led by the young”,the author indicates that young people are more___________________.A.conventional B.creative C.realistic D.heartbreaking2.From the second paragraph we know__________________.A.the voice of the rebellious young should be heard by the governmentB.schools encourage parents to question their education methodsC.movement is satisfied with the new leaders’ attack on the policiesD.teachers’ basic beliefs should be questioned by students3.In order to educate children well, parents should_________________.A.forbid particular behaviors in their daily lifeB.know as much as possible as their childrenC.educate them with facts and expect much of themD. know them well and set a good example to them4.From the passage we can learn that the author prefers_____________________.A.free parenting B.traditional parentingC.smart parenting D. critical parenting5.What is the best title of the passage?A.Teaching Methods – for Teachers and SchoolsB.Parents’ Tasks –in Children’s Developm entC.Way of Growth – for the Young GroupsD.Letting Go –for Children’s Independent Life【参考答案】1---5、BADCD2016高考英语----阅读理解训练。

The food on the following list will help you to keep fit, maintain a healthy heart, increase immunity and spend everyday happily.Avoid Memory LossFresh cheese will contribute to memory improvement because of its linoleic acid. It is also good for your bones due to the high calcium level. Eggs, milk, whole wheat bread, peanut butter, green pepper, cauliflower, pork liver and oysters are also good for your memory. A cup of red wine everyday is good for the nerve cells.Fight Against FatChoosing the right food is an easy way to keep fit, like eating tuna fish, which is low in sugar and fat and also has few calories. Furthermore, it contains a variety of high quality protein and other nutrients, and it tastes good. Rich in iron, it is especially good for young women. The baby is just one day old and has not yet left hospital. She is quiet but alert(警觉). Twenty centimeters from her face researchers have placed a white card with two black spots on it. She stares at it carefully. A researcher removes the card and replaces it by another, this time with the spots differently spaced. As the cards change from one to the other, her gaze(凝视)starts to lose its focus--until a third, with three black spots, is presented. Her gaze returns: she looks at it for twice as long as she did at the previous card. Can she tell that the number two is different from three, just 24 hours after coming into the world?Or do newborns simply prefer more to fewer? The same experiment, but with three spots shown before two, shows the same return of interest when the number of spots changes. Perhaps it is just the newness? When slightly older babies were shown cards with pictures of objects (a comb, a key, an orange and so on), changing the number of objects had an effect separate from changing the objects themselves. Could it be the pattern that two things make, as opposed to three? No again. Babies paid more attention to squares moving randomly on a screen when their number changed from two to three, or three to two. The effect even crosses between senses. Babies who were repeatedly shown two spots became more excited when they then heard three drumbeats than when they heard just two; likewise(同样地)when the researchers started with drumbeats and moved to spots. 1.Babies are sensitive to the change in _______.A. the size of cardsB. the colour of picturesC. the shape of patternsD. the number of objects2.Why did the researchers test the babies with drumbeats?A. Reading poems is not exactly an everyday activity for most people. In fact, many people never read a poem once they get out of high school. It is worth reminding ourselves that this has not always been the case in America. In the nineteenth century, a usual American activity was to sit around the fireside in the evening and read poems aloud. It is true that there was no television at the time, nor movie theaters, nor World Wide Web, to provide diversion. However, poems were a source of pleasure, of self-education, of connection to other people or to the world beyond one’s own community. Reading them was a social act as well as an individual one, and perhaps even more social than individual. Writing poems to share with friends and relations was, like reading poems by the fireside, another way in which poetry has a place in everyday life. How did things change? Why are most Americans no longer comfortable with poetry, and why do most people today think that a poem has nothing to tell them and that they can do well without poems? There are, I believe, three culprits(肇事者):poets, teachers, and we ourselves. Of these, the least important is the third: the world surrounding the poem has betrayed us more than we have betrayed the poem. Early in the twentieth century, poetry in English headed into directions unfavorable to the reading of poetry. Readers decided that poems were not for the fireside or the easy chair at night, that they belonged where other difficult-to-read things belonged.Poets failed the reader, so did teachers. They want their students to know something about the skills of a poem, they want their students to see that poems mean something. Yet what usually occurs when teachers push these concerns on their high school students is that young people decide poems are unpleasant crossword puzzles.1. Reading poems is thought to be a social act in the nineteenth century because.A. it built a link among peopleB. it helped unite a communityC. it was a source of self-educationD. it was a source of pleasure2. The underlined word “diversion〞(in Paragraph 2) most probably means “〞.A. concentrationB. changeC. amusementsD. stories3. According to the passage, what is the main cause of the great gap between readers and poetry?A. Students are becoming less interested in poetry.B. Students are poorly educated in high school.C. TV and the Internet are more attractive than poetry.D. Poems have become difficult to understand.4. In the last paragraph, the writer questions.A. the difficulty in studying poemsB. the way poems are taught in schoolC. students’ wrong ideas about poetryD. the techniques used in writing poems1、答案解析:答案为A。

It is not easy to explain why one person is intelligent and another is not, or why one is cooperative and another is competitive.Social scientists are of course extremely interested in these types of questions. They want to explain why we possess certain characteristics and exhibit certain behaviour. There are no clear answers yet, but two distinct schools of thought on the matter have developed. As one might expect, the two approaches are very different from each other, and there is a great deal of debate between proponents of each theory. The controversy(争论) is often conveniently referred to as “nature and nurture”.Those who suppor t the “nature” side of the conflict believe that our personalities and behaviour patterns are largely determined by biological factors. That our environment has little, if anything, to do with our abilities, characteristics and behaviour is central to this theory. Taken to an extreme, this theory states that our behaviour is predetermined to such a great degree that we are almost completely governed by our instincts (本能).Proponents of the “nurture” theory, or, as they are often called, behaviourists, claim that our environment is more important than our biologically based instincts in determining how we will act. A behaviourist, B.F. Skinner, sees humans as beings whose behaviour is almost completely shaped by their surroundings. The behaviourists’ view of the human being is quite mechanistic. They state that, like machines, humans respond to environmental stimuli (刺激) as the basis of their behaviour. Socially and politically, the consequences of these two theories are far-reaching. In the US, for example, blacks often score below whites on standardized intelligence tests. This leads some “nature” proponents to c onclude that blacks are genetically lower in status than whites. Behaviourists, on the contrary, say that the differences in scores are due to the fact that blacks are often robbed of many of the educational and other environmental advantages that whites enjoy, and that, as a result, they do not develop the same responses that whites do.Neither of these theories can yet fully explain human behaviour. In fact, it is quite likelythat the key to our behaviour lies somewhere between these two extremes and that the controversy will continue for a long time is certain.1.
