Should government spend more money on improving roads and highways, or should government spend more money on improving public transportation (buses, trains, subways)? Why? Use specific reasons and details to develop your essay.
Government should spend more money on improving all forms of public transportation, such as buses, trains and subways. I have three reasons to support this idea .They are stimulating economy developing, declining atmospheric pollution and conserving energy resources.
A traditional theory is that enhancing the quality of roads and highways or build large number of them can benefit for city. But the crucial measure is to improve our city in a continuable, healthy and economic way. The expenses on improving high way and roads often get returns after a few decades. It may bring financial problem to government. But if government wants to get returns faster, fees will be set higher , which can bring political problem. However, more advanced public transportation can decline the daily expenses and attract outstanding people working here or big company investing here to simulate economy developing. It also can bring a lot of taxes for government to construct our city better.
Another reason to be considered is environmental problem. Good public transportation will decrease the number of people who want to buy
private cars. When the public transportation is faster, cheaper, safer and more comfortable, why don’t we have to afford a private car? Thus, it leads to declining the content of sulfide in the air which is considered air pollution. For example Beijing, the capital of China, raised the atmospheric quality by spending a big deal of money on improving public transportation before the 2008 Olympic Games. And finally it worked as Beijing’s air condition was best in the last years during the pageant. In addition, after the game ending, air pollution still declined.
And last but not least, we will be lack of oil and gasoline just a few decades later. Investing more money on public transportation can efficiently encourage public to conserve our finite natural resources and decline unnecessary cost.
Therefore, accounting for the economic developing, environmental problem and energy resources conservation, governments should spend more money on improving buses, trains and subways, which more efficiently contributes to an economic, continuable and harmonious society. And advanced public transportation will bring us a bright future.。
