Paper cutting can be seen in many parts of China during the Spring Festival. People paste patterns on thewindow, door lintel or desks for the festival atmosphere. It's difficult to tell when it originated. One saying is that it originated from thereligious ceremony or offering sacrifices. The ancient people cut papers into animalsor people. They either buried them with the dead or burned them on the funerals, wishing that things that paper stand for could be with the dead. A thousand years ago, paper cutting was used for decoration. According to historic books, women in the Tang Dynasty used paper cut as headdress. In the Song Dynasty, it was the decoration ofthe gifts. People pasted on windows or doors or used it as decorations on walls, mirrorsor lanterns. Some people made a living by it.Paper cutting is all made by hand. It is easy to learn at the entry level.Non-craftsmen need only a knife and paper. For craftsman, they need knives andgravers of various types to make complicated patterns. It can be one piece of paper ormany pieces. Simple patterns can be cut with a knife. For complicated patterns, peoplefirst pasted the pattern on the paper and then used various kinds of knives to make it.No mistake can be made during the process otherwise the work would fail.Today, paper cuttings are mainly used as decorations. They adorn walls, windows, doors, columns, mirrors, lamps and lanterns in homes and are also used fordecoration on presents or are given as presents themselves. My mom is a fan of papercutting."I like paper cutting very much. During variousfestivals, we often buy some paper cuts to decorate the home. I think paper cuts are verybeautiful and display strong Chinese characteristics."During the Spring Festival, people cut animals, flowers and figures in the paper to decorate theirwindows and doors. These paper cuttings are therefore sometimes called “window flowers” or“picture cuts”. The “window flowers” are commonly used by families duringfestivals or on celebratory days. The custom of pasting window flowers initially appeared in North China. During festivals such as the New Year, weddings, and celebrations for the birth of a baby, people used paper cuttings to show their pleasure, reflect the prosperous atmosphere or bring good luck.Paper cuttings are mostly red, as red represents auspiciousness in China. There are alsosome more varied and colorful paper cuttings, such as those in Henan and Guangdong eprovinces.Paper cuttings typically demonstrate the preferred aesthetics of shape and the artisticconcepts behind Chinese folk handicrafts.(451 words)◆Helper:lintel[ˈlɪntl]楣,过梁funeral [ˈfju:nərəl]葬礼headdress [ˈheddres]饰头巾rudiment['ru:dɪmənt]基本原理,入门Non-craftsmen非工匠graver ['greɪvə]雕刻师,雕刻刀complicated [ˈkɔmplikeitid] 结构复杂的adorn [ə'dɔ:n]装饰,修饰column[ˈkɔləm]圆柱figure [ˈfiɡə]图解,人物prosperous[ˈprɔspərəs]繁荣的,兴旺的auspicious[ɔ:ˈspɪʃəs] 有前途的, 有希望的, 吉利的demonstrate[ˈdemənstreit]显示,演示aesthetic[i:sˈθetɪk] 美的,美学的;审美观◆Chinese Brief Introduction:民间剪纸是中国民间美术形式之一,有着悠久的历史。

Folk paper-cutting conveys the content and nature of traditional culture with its own particular language. The history of paper-cutting can be dated back to the6th century. From the7th to13th century,paper-cutting became popular especially during Chinese festivals. The art spread to the rest of the world in the14th century. On the one hand,in rural areas,paper-cutting is traditionally a handicraft for women. In the past, every girl was supposed to master it and brides were often judged by their skills.Professional papercutting artists are,on the other hand, usually males who earned guaranteed incomes by working in workshops.Paper-cuttings were mainly used in regional rituals, decorations and styling.Today, papercuttings are used as decorations, and they are usually made with red paper, which is the most popular and propitious(吉祥的)color in Chinese culture. They can be used to decorate walls, windows, doors, pillars, mirrors, lamps and lanterns, and they themselves can also be given as gifts.Paper-cuttings were also used to serve as the mould(模具)pattern for making embroideries(朿卩绣)and spray paintings.Paper-cuttings are popular because of their expression of wishes and hopes. In ancient times, limited territory, restricted culture together with the occurrence of natural disasters made people desire for a happier living.Wishes for wealth, health and longevity are conveyed through paper-cuttings.For example, during the Chinese New Year, the character#Fu(福,blessing)"is pasted upside down on the door to express people"s wish for the coming of"Fu".At a wedding ceremony,a red paper-cutting with the character"Xi(4,double happiness)"is a traditional and essential decoration, while patterns of dolls, gourds(葫芦)or lotus(莲花)symbolize wishes for children. At a birthday party of an old person,paper-cuttings with the character"Shou(寿,longevity)"are often seen.It is easy to learn how to make paper-cuttings,and required tools are simply a piece of paper and a knife or a pair of scissors. But to master this art is not easy at all because it requires much effort, practice, craftsmanship and imagination. There are two methods of making paper-cuttings.One is using scissors, and the other is using knives. Why are paper-cuttings popular?44Crazy English2020.11left the cage open while changing the water,so it flew away."when I heard this, tears poured down my face. That night,I looked at the empty cage,as if the pigeon had come back.I imagined that it was eating the cookie and I was patting it.When I recovered,I found my fingers had gone into the caged food. Two days later in the afternoon,/suddenly saw two pigeons flying into the house!
The art of paper cutting has long been a cherished tradition in many cultures around the world, each with its own unique style and techniques. In China, the art of paper cutting, known as "Jianzhi," has a rich history that dates back thousands of years. One of the most renowned and celebrated forms of Chinese paper cutting is the "High Wind Lotus," a delicate and intricate design that captures the beauty and grace of the lotus flower. The lotus flower holds a special significance in Chinese culture, symbolizing purity, enlightenment, and spiritual growth. The High Wind Lotus paper cutting design captures the essence of this revered flower, with its delicate petals and intricate patterns that seem to dance and sway in the wind. The intricate cuts and folds of the paper create a mesmerizing and ethereal effect, evoking a sense of tranquility and harmony. The process of creating a High Wind Lotus paper cutting is a labor of love, requiring immense skill, patience, and attention to detail. The artist begins by carefully selecting the paper, which must be of thehighest quality and thickness to withstand the intricate cutting and folding required. The paper is then carefully measured and marked, with precise calculations made to ensure that the final design is perfectly balanced and symmetrical. The cutting process itself is a delicate and meticulous task, with the artist using a sharp knife or scissors to carefully slice away the negative space, revealing the intricate design that lies within. The cuts must be made with the utmost precision, as even the slightest deviation can disrupt the overall balance and harmony of the design. As the artist works, they must also carefully consider the placement and orientation of the cuts, ensuring that the final design flows seamlessly and creates a sense of movement and dynamism. This requires a deep understanding of the principles of balance, symmetry, and composition, as well as a keen eye for detail and a steady hand. One of the most fascinating aspects of the High Wind Lotus paper cutting is the way in which it seems to capture the very essence of the lotus flower itself. The delicate, swaying petals and the intricate patterns that emerge from the paper seem to mimic the natural beauty and grace of the flower, evoking a sense of wonder and awe in the viewer. In addition to its aesthetic beauty, the High Wind Lotus paper cutting also holds deep cultural and spiritual significance. In Chinese culture, the lotus flower is revered as a symbol of purity, enlightenment, and spiritual growth, and the paper cutting design is often used in religious and ceremonial contexts to represent these lofty ideals. For many artists and artisans, the creation of a High Wind Lotus paper cutting is a deeply meaningful and spiritual process, one that requires a deep connection to the natural world and a profound understanding of the cultural and symbolic significance of the lotus flower.
