Tokyo is one of those places that you can love and hate at the same time.
In Tokyo there are always too many people in the places where I want to be. Of course there are too many cars. The Japanese drive very fast, but in Tokyo they often spend a long time in traffic jams(拥挤).Tokyo is not different from London, Paris and New York in that. It is different when one wants to walk.
At certain times of the day there are a lot of people on foot in London Oxford Street. But the streets near the Ginze in Tokyo always have a lot of people on foot, and sometimes it is really difficult to walk. People are very polite; there are just too many of them.
The worst time to be in the street is at 11:30 at night. That is when the night-clubs are closing and everybody wants to go home. There are 35 000 night-clubs in Tokyo, and you do not often see one that is empty.
During the day ,most people travel to and from work by train. Tokyo people buy six million train tickets every day. At most stations, trains arrive every two or three minutes, but at certain hours there do not seem to be enough trains. Although they are usually crowded, Japanese trains are very good. They always leave and arrive on time. On a London train you would see everybody reading a newspaper. In Tokyo trains everybody in a seat seems to be asleep, whether his journey is long or short.

A pill,code-named HT-0712,may make forgetfulness a thing of the past. It is being developed in the US and could go on sale within five years.
According to the newspaper The Sun,the wonder drug has been nicknamed “Mind Viagra”and has already been sho wn to boost the memory power of mice and flies. Next it will be tested on humans. This is just one of a number of drugs in a pharmaceutical (制药的) race to develop an increased memory pill. At least 12 US companies are believed to be working on similar projects.
Tim Tully, the founder of US drug company Helicon Therapeutics, who is in charge of the HT-0712 project, gave this practical example of its use for students:“If it takes two weeks to memorize a verse of Shakespeare, with one of these drugs you might be able to do it in two or three days. ”
“The memory drug business appears to be set to become a multi-million dollar industry,”experts say. This summer,100 Americans suffering mild memory loss will test HT-0712 in the first experiment on people.
“You don’t th ink better than you did before, you just get the facts in with less practice. There is a growing belief that memory and memory loss is just another treatable condition,”says Tully.

Five years ago, David Smith wore an expensive suit to work every day. “I was a clothes addict,” he joked . “I used to carry a fresh suit to work with me so I could change if my clothes got wrinkled.” Today David wears cas ual clothes—khaki pants and a sports shirt—to the office. He hardly even wears a necktie. “I’m working harder than ever,” David says, “and I need to feel comfortable.”
More and more companies are allowing their office workers to wear casual clothes to work. In the United States, the change from formal to casual office wear has been gradual. In the early 1990s, many companies allowed their employees to wear casual clothes on Friday (but only on Friday). This became known as “dress-down Friday” or “casual Friday” . “What started out as an extra one-day-a-week benefit for employees has really become an everyday thing.” Said business consultant Maisly Jones.
Why have so many companies started allowing their employees to wear casual clothes? One reason is that it’s easier for a company to attract new employees if it has a casual dress code . “A lot of young people don’t want to dress up for work,” says the owner of a software company, “so it’s hard to hire people if you have a conservative dress code.” Another r eason is that people seem happier and more productive when they are wearing comfortable clothes. In a study conducted by Levi Strauss and Company ,85% of employers said that they believe that casual dress improves employee morale. Only 4% of employers said that casual dress code has a negative impact on productivity .Supporters of casual office wear also argue that a casual dress code helps them save money . “Suits are expensive ,if you have to wear one every day,” one person said. “For the same amount of m oney ,you can buy a lot more casual clothes.”
71.David Smith refers to himself as having been “a clothes addict” because.
A.he couldn’t stand a clean appearance
B.he often wore khaki pants and a sports shirt
C.he wanted his clothes to look neat all the time
D.he didn’t want to spend much money on clothes
72.David wears casual clothes now ,because .
A.he looks handsome in casual clothes
B.he no longer works for any company

A.traditional B.simple C.modern D.funny

A.It’s easier for a company to attract new employees.
B.A lot of young people don’t want to dress up for work.
C.People seem happier and more productive when they are wearing comfortable clothes.
D.Suits which used to be cheap are expensive now.

第Ⅱ卷(两节,共45分)
第一节阅读表达(共5小题;每小题3分,满分15分)
阅读下面文章,回答有关小题。
____________________, but there have only been few players who were truly great. How did these players get that way---- was it through practice, or are great players “born, not made”? First, these players come from places that have had famous stars in the past----players that a young boy can look up to and try to imitate. In the history of soccer, only eight countries have ever won the World Cup----three from South America and five from Western Europe. There has never been a great national team ----or a really great player----from North America or from Asia. Second, these players have all had years of practice in the game. Alfredo Di Stefano was the son of a soccer player, as was Pele. Most players began playing the game at the age of three or four.
Finally, many great players come from the same kind of neighourhood----a poor, crowded area where a boy’s dream is not to be a doctor, lawyer, or businessman, but to become a rich, famous athlete or entertainer. For example, Liverpool, which produced the Beetle, has one of the best English soccer teams in recent years. Pele practiced in the street with a “ball” made of rags. And George Best learned the tricks that made him famous by bouncing the ball off a wall in the slums of Belfast.
All great players have a lot in common, but that doesn’t explain why they are great. Hundreds of boys played in those Brazilian streets, but only one became Pele. The greatest players are born with some unique quality that sets them apart from all the others.
76.What is the main idea of the passage? (Please answer within 10 words)

In the future, man’s life will be very different form that of today. First, with the development of medicine, on the average, a person will live to the age of about 120. Second, because of the discovery of new energy, the environmental pollution will be under control. Third, people’s daily life will change greatly, too. For example, robots will do all your housework for you; your chair will change its color to match what you’re wearing; you can also put y our mobile phone around your wrist and can see the caller while speaking; you even can take a new elevator into space for your holidays.。
