高二人教新课标选修6 unit 1 Art课文翻译Reading 1A SHORT HISTORY OF WESTERN PAINTINGArt is influenced by the customs and faith of a people. Styles in Western art have changed many times. As there are so many different styles of Western art, it would be impossible to describe all of them in such a short text. Consequently, this text will describe only the most important ones, starting from the sixth century AD.The Middle Ages (5th to the 15th century AD)During the Middle Ages, the main aim of painters was to represent religious themes. A conventional artist of this period was not interested in showing nature and people as they really were. A typical picture at this time was full of religious symbols, which created a feeling of respect and love for God. But it was evident that ideas were changing in the 13th century when painters like Giotto di Bondone began to paint religious scenes in a more realistic way.The Renaissance (15th to 16th century)During the Renaissance, new ideas and values gradually replaced those held in the Middle Ages. People began to concentrate less on religious themes and adopt a more humanistic attitude to life. At the same time painters returned to classical Roman and Greek ideas about art. They tried to paint people and nature as they really were. Rich people wanted to possess their own paintings, so they could decorate their superb palaces and great houses. They paid famous artists to paint pictures of themselves, their houses and possessions, as well as their activities and achievements. One of the most important discoveries during this period was how to draw things in perspective. This technique was first used by Masaccio in 1428. When people first saw his paintings, they were convinced that they were looking through a hole in the wall at a real scene. If the rules of perspective had not been discovered, no one would have been able to paint such realistic pictures. By coincidence, oil paints were also developed at this time, which made the colours used in paintings look richer anddeeper. Without the new paints and the new technique, we would not be able to see the many great masterpieces for which this period is famous.Impressionism (late 19th to early 20th century)In the late 19th century, Europe changed a great deal, from a mostly agricultural society to a mostly industrial one. Many people moved from the countryside to the new cities. There were many new inventions and social changes. Naturally, these changes also led to new painting styles. Among the painters who broke away from the traditional style of painting were the Impressionists, who lived and worked in Paris. The impressionists were the first painters to work outdoors. They were eager to show how light and shadow fell on objects at different times of day. However, because natural light changes so quickly, the Impressionists had to paint quickly. Their paintings were not as detailed as those of earlier painters. At first, many people disliked this style of painting and became very angry about it. They said that the painters were careless and their paintings were ridiculous.Modern art (20th century to today)At the time they were created, the Impressionist paintings were controversial, but today they are accepted as the beginning of what we call "modern art". This is because the Impressionists encouraged artists to look at their environment in new ways. There are scores of modern art styles, but without the Impressionists, many of these painting styles might not exist. On the one hand, some modern art is abstract; that is, the painter does not attempt to paint objects as we see them with our eyes, but instead concentrates on certain qualities of the object, using colour, line and shape to represent them. On the other hand, some paintings of modern art are so realistic that they look like photographs. They styles are so different. Who can predict what painting styles there will be in the future?西方绘画艺术简史艺术是受着人民生活习俗和信仰的影响的。

新人教版 Book 4 Unit 1 Woman of Achievement 课文

Book 4 Unit 1 Women of achievementPart I a Student of African WildlifeIt is 5:45 am and the sun is just rising over Gombe National Park in East Africa. Follow ing Jane’s way of studying chimps, our group are all going to visit them in the forest. Jane has studied these families of chimps for many years helped understand how much they behave like human s. Watch ing a family of chimps wake up is our first activity of the day. This mean s going back to the place where we left the family sleeping in a tree the night before. Everybody sits and waits in the shade of the trees while the family begins to wake up and move off. Then we follow as they wander into the forest. Most of the time, chimps either feed or clean each other as a way of showing love in their family. Jane warn s us that our group is going to be very tired and dirty by the afternoon and she is right. However, the evening makes it all worthwhile. We watch the mother chimp and her babies play in the tree. Then we see them go to sleep together in their nest for the night. We realize that the bond between member s of a chimp family is as strong as in a human family.Nobody before Jane fully understood chimp behaviour. She spent years observing and record ing their daily activities. Since her childhood she had wanted to work with animals in their own environment. However, this was not easy. When she first arrive d in Gombe in 1960, it was unusual for a woman to live in the forest. Only after her mother came to help her for the first few months was she allow ed to begin her project. Her work changed the way people think about chimps. For example, one important thing she discover ed was that chimps hunt and eat meat. Until then everyone had thought chimps ate only fruit and nuts. She actually observe d chimps as a group hunting a monkey and then eating it. She also discovered how chimps communicate with each other, and her study of their body language helped her work out their social system. For forty years Jane Goodall has been outspoken about making the rest of the world understand and respect the life of these animals. She has argue d that wild animals should be left in the wild and not used for entertainment or advertisement s. She has helped to set up special places where they can live safe ly. She is lead ing a busy life but she says: “Once I stop, it all comes crowd ing in and I remember the chimps in lab oratories. It’s terrible. It affect s me when I watch the wild chimps. I say to myself, ‘Aren’t they lucky?’And then I think about small chimps in cage s though they have done nothing wrong. Once you have seen that you can never forget ...”She has achieve d everything she wanted to do: working with animals in their own environment, gain ing a doctor’s degree and showing that women can live in the forest as men can. She inspire s those who want to cheer the achievement s of women.Part II Why not Carry on her Good Work?I enjoyed English, biology, and chemistry at school, but which one should I choose to study at university? I did not know the answer until one evening when I sat down at the computer to do some research on great women of China.By chance I came across an article about a doctor called Lin Qiaozhi, a specialist in women’s disease s. She lived from 1901 to 1983. It seemed that she had been very busy in her chosen career, travel ling abroad to study as well as writing books and articles. One of them caught my eye. It was a small book explain ing how to cut the death rate from having and caring for babies. She gave some simple rule s to follow for keeping babies clean, healthy and free from sick ness. Why did she write that? Who were the women that Lin Qiaozhi thought needed this advice? I looked carefully at the text and realize d that it was intend ed for women in the countryside. Perhaps if they had an emergency they could not reach a doctor.Suddenly it hit me how difficult it was for a woman to get medical train ing at that time. That was a generation when girls’education was always place d second to boys’. Was she so much clever er than anyone else? Further reading made me realize that it was hard work and determination as well as her gentle nature that got her into medical school. What made her succeed later on was the kind ness and consideration she showed to all her patient s. There was story after story of how Lin Qiaozhi, tired after a day’s work, went late at night to deliver a baby for a poor family who could not pay her.By now I could not wait to find out more about her. I discovered that Lin Qiaozhi had devote d her whole life to her patient s and had chosen not to have a family of her own. Instead she made sure that about 50,000 babies were safely delivered. By this time I was very excited. Why not study at medical college like Lin Qiaozhi and carry on her good work? It was still not too late for me to improve my studies, prepare for the university entrance examination s, and….。

Book4 unit1 women of achievement概要

Book4 unit1 women of achievement概要

Para.1It is 5:45 am and the sun is just rising over Gombe National Park in East Africa. Following Jane's way of studying chimps, our group are all going to visit them in the forest. Jane has studied these families of chimps for many years and helped people understand how much they behave like humans. Watching a family of chimps wake up is our first activity of the day. This means going back to the place where we left the family sleeping in a tree the night before. Everybody sits and waits in the shade of the trees while the family begins to wake up and move off. Then we follow as they wander into the forest.Para.2Nobody before Jane fully understood chimp behaviour. She spent years observing and recording their daily activities. Since her childhood she had wanted to work with animals in their own environment. However, this was not easy. When she first arrived in Gombe in 1960, it was unusual for a woman to live in the forest. Only after her mother came to help her for the first few months was she allowed to begin her project. Her work changed the way people think about chimps. For example, one important thing she discovered was that chimps hunt and eat meat. Until then everyone had thought chimps ate only fruit and nuts. She actually observed chimps as a group hunting a monkey and then eating it. She also discovered how chimps communicate with each other, and her study of their body language helped her work out their social system.Para.3For forty years Jane Goodall has been outspoken about making the rest of the world understand and respect the life of these animals. She has argued that wild animals should be left in the wild and not used for entertainment or advertisements. She has helped to set up special places where they can live safely. She is leading a busy life but she says: "Once I stop, it all comes crowding in and I remember the chimps in laboratories. It's terrible. It affects me when I watch the wild chimps.I say to myself, 'Aren't they lucky?" And then I think about small chimps in cages though they have done nothing wrong. Once you have seen that you can never forget ..."Para.4She has achieved everything she wanted to do: working with animals in their own environment, gaining a doctor's degree and showing that women can live in the forest as men can. She inspires those who want to cheer the achievements of women.概要写作Our group visit chimps in the forest by following Jane's way of studying them.
