Some groups believe wolves should be killed. Other people believe wolvesMust be protected so that they will not disappear from the wilderness(荒野)For Killing WolvesIn Alaska, the wolf almost disappeared a few years ago, because hunters were killing hundreds0f them for sport .However.1aws were established to protect the wolves from sportsmen and people who catch the animals for their fur.So the wolf population has greatly increased. Now there are so many wolves that they are destroying their own food supply.A wolf naturally eats animals in the deer family. People in the wilderness also hunt deer forfood. Many of the animals have been destroyed by the very cold winters recently and by changes in the wilderness plant life. When the deer can’t find enough food, they die.If the wolves continue to kill large numbers of deer, their prey(猎物)will disappear someday. And the wolves will.too.So we must change the cycle of life in the wilderness to balance the ecology. If we killed more wolves,we would save them and their prey from dying out. We’d alsosave some farm animals. In another northern state, wolves attack cows and chickens for food.Farmers want thegovernment to send biologists to study the problem. They believe it necessary to kill wolves in some areas and to protect them in places where there is a small wolf population.Against Killing WolvesIf you had lived long ago,you would have heard many different stories about the dangerous wolf.According to most stories, hungry wolves often kill people for food.Even today, the stories of the “b ig bad wolf'"will not disappear. But the fact is wolves are afraid of people.and they seldom travel in areas where there is a human smell. When wolves eat other animals, they usually kill the very young.or the sick and injured .The strongestsurvive .No kind of animal would have survived th rough the centuries if the weak members had lived. And has always been a law of natureAlthough some people say it is good sense to kill wolves,we say it is nonsense! Researchers have found wolves and their prey living in balance. The wolves keep the deer population from becoming too large, and that keeps a balance in the wilderness plant life. The real problem is that the areas where wolves can live are being used by people.Even if wilderness land is not used directly for human needs.the wolves can’t always find enough food .So they travel to the nearest source, which is often a farm. Then there is danger. The “big bad wolf” has arrived! And everyone knows what happens next.60.According to the passage, some people in North America favor killing wolves for all the following reasons EXCET that .A.there are too many wolves B.they kill large numbers deerC.they attack cows and chickens for food D.they destroy the wilderness plant life61.Some people are against killing wolves because .A.wolves help to keep the ecological balance in the wildnessB.there is too small a wolf population in the wildernessC.there are too many deer in the wildernessD.wolves are afraid of people and never attack people62.According to those against killing wolves, when wolves eat other animals,.A.they never eat strong and healthy onesB.they always go against the law of natureC.they might help this kind of animals survive in natureD.they disturb the ecological balance in the wilderness63.The last sentence “And everyone knows what happens next” implies that in such cases .A.farm animals will be in danger and have to be shipped awayB.wolves will kill people and people will in turn kill themC.wolves will find enough food sources on farmsD.people will leave the areas where wolves can live完形填空(20分)(2012辽宁)When Glen Kruger picked a small cat from an animal shelter, he did not expect much. Based on the bestselling novel written by Ken Follett, this TV show starring the brilliant Eddie Redmayne is widely recognized as one of the best historical TV dramas of recent years.MahabharataThis Indian Hindilanguage series is liked by many people for being regarded as the simplest and the most fun way to learn about the ageold wisdom of the Indian people. It tells us about the kings and heroes who love, fight and make wise decisions. This drama is about the endless struggle between good and evil. The CrownThis story about the transformation of the young Princess Elizabeth into the queen shows everything about the British monarchy (君主制).It includes many storylines, each of which could be made into a separate TV show. The series focuses on the age old themes of family, marriage and politics, and this is probably what makes The Crown win popularity.语篇解读:本文是一篇应用文。

Unit 4 Wildlife protection保护野生动植物晨读·记忆Wildlife ProtectionDinosaurs died out because of an unexpected incident. But wildlife today disappears or is in danger just because humans do harm to it. For example, tigers are hunted for fur to make carpets so that they can only live in secure reserves; grassland is destroyed without mercy so that dust storms come into being affecting distant cities.Last year, scientists saw some monkeys rubbing themselves with a certain kind of insects to protect themselves from fierce mosquitoes biting. According to the result of the inspection, they found that the insect contains a powerful drug, so local farmers were employed to catch the insects. The ending was that the insects disappeared from the whole zone. When told that it was a loss to humans, the farmers burst into laughter and responded, “Our real loss is our decreasing income.”We should appreciate the natural balance and pay more attention to the importance of wildlife protection. Not until we succeed in letting wildlife live in peace, can we smile in relief.保护野生动植物恐龙因一次意外事件而灭绝,但是今天的野生动植物却是因为人类的伤害而消失或处在危险中。

Text 1W:I was thinking we could get a dog. I had one when I was a kid, and it was great.M:No way. They're messy, and they need a lot of attention. A cat might be OK, though.Text 2W:Did you feed Frank today?M:Yes, I did. I also gave him a bath.W:Thank you, honey. Could you take him to the vet tomorrow? His appointment is at 10:00 in the morning.Text 3M:My daughter really wanted a dog, so we went down to a local pet shop. All the dogs in the window were less than six months old and really cute, but they were so expensive! I told her that I couldn't afford any of those dogs. Next, we went to a private animal hospital that had a shelter next door. We saw an amazing dog that was four months old. Her name was Ella, and she was brown with big dark eyes. She was perfect! We told the staff that we wanted to take her home, but they told us that we would have to wait until the next week. Ella needed to get a few more shots. We put down a deposit and left happily. But the day before we were supposed to pick up Ella, the doctor called and told us that Ella had died from an infection. My daughter and I were so sad, but we decided to keep looking the next day. We went to the public animal shelter downtown, and there were only a couple of dogs there. One of them was a oneyearold white dog named Max, and even though he was being pretty loud when we first saw him, he calmed down quickly and played with us for an hour in the visitors' room. Not until we succeed in letting wildlife live in peace, can we smile in relief.
