My parents used to read me stories about brave animals going on adventures or funny animals getting into silly situations. Those stories filled my head with wonderful images of the animal kingdom. As I grew older, I started learning more facts about all the different species that share our planet. The more I learned, the more fascinated I became!If I had to choose one animal that is my absolute favorite, it would have to be the mighty elephant. There are so many reasons why elephants are just the coolest animals around. First of all, they are huuuuuuuuge! An adult elephant can weigh more than a car. With their thick legs, giant floppy ears, and long trunk, they look like living antiquities that wandered right out of prehistoric times. I've seen elephants at the zoo and they are truly an awesome sight to behold.Despite their massive size, elephants are known to be very intelligent creatures. Their brains are larger than any other land animal's brain. Elephants can remember tiny details about places they traveled many years ago. They can figure out how to use basic tools to help them gather food. Maybe most impressively, elephants have rich emotional lives and strong family bonds. When an elephant has a new baby, the whole herd celebrates bytrumpeting joyfully. When a member of the herd dies, the other elephants become very somber, almost seeming to grieve. Scientists have even observed elephants caressing the skulls of elephants that died long ago. This deep sense of caring and memory makes elephants seem almost human-like.In addition to their giant size and intelligence, elephants play a vital role in their native habitats across parts of Africa and Asia. As huge herbivores, elephants spend most of their days eating tons of grass, tree bark, leaves, and other plant matter. In the process, they help to clear paths that allow younger trees to get more sunlight. They disperse seeds through their dung, allowing plants to propagate over wider areas. Some types of trees actually depend on elephants to help them spread their seeds. When elephants are removed from an ecosystem, the landscape can change dramatically. So elephants are like the landscape artists of the natural world, constantly renovating and redesigning the environment through their eating habits.As you can probably tell, I absolutely adore elephants and could go on raving about them all day. But I also have to admit that elephants are facing major threats that are putting their very survival at risk. The biggest threat is habitat loss as lands occupied by elephants for centuries are seized for humanagriculture, housing developments, and resource extraction. With their homelands shrinking, elephants are finding it harder to roam freely in search of food and water without encountering dangerous conflicts with humans.Poaching is another major threat that is sadly causing many elephant populations to dwindle. Despite bans on the ivory trade, gangs of criminals continue to slaughter elephants illegally to cash in on their highly valuable tusks. Over 100 elephants are killed every single day by poachers seeking ivory profits. At this rate, the beloved elephant could become extinct within my lifetime. That would be an absolute tragedy!So what can be done to protect these magnificent creatures? Well, the first step is to raise awareness about the elephant's plight. We need more young people to learn about elephants, appreciate how special they are, and become passionate about saving them before it's too late. More funding also needs to go towards anti-poaching rangers and habitat conservation efforts in the regions where elephants live. And countries around the world need to crack down harder on any illegal trading of ivory.I may only be in the 5th grade, but I know I want to do whatever I can to help elephants when I grow up. Maybe I'll become a wildlife ranger or a scientist who studies elephantbehavior and habitats. Or maybe I'll get into politics andcampaign for laws to protect these amazing creatures. Elephants have roamed the Earth for millions of years, long before any humans existed. They are such an integral part of the natural world. We simply cannot let anything happen to them on our watch.Elephants face an uncertain future, but I have hope that caring people can make a difference. By spreading elephant awareness, one kid at a time, the trunks of these giants will never go silent. During the three score years , the USA generally outweighed Sweden in terms of the proportion of those aged 65 and over . But the gaps between have never been remarkable . In stark contrast , Sweden strikingly eclipsed Japan in this aspect evidenced by the fact that in 1940 the proportion for the USA was about 9%, clearly higher than 5% for Japan .
Whereas Japan experienced declines from 5% to 3% , both Sweden and the USA climbed . Put it in detail , by the year 1983, the
