Love is so complicated that maybe nobody could precisely tell us what it is. However, the author of this book explains his thought of love by showing us many possible situations when people fall in love. There is love with happy or bad ending, love in poverty or in rich, love when somebody is young or old in this book, and even cholera could be called as the turmoil of love. Additionally, we could understand some other things in those love stories, such as aging, culture and history.

Sometimes love unreasonably appears, and it will either become more and more strong or gradually disappear with time. Maybe the beginning was just a little glance of that girl sitting in the sewing room, or a little head up to the man who had passed the window for curiosity, but love between the two characters, Arisa and Fermina came into being indeed. Although I am too young to explain the reason explicitly, I was moved by their courage to pursue happiness and fight for the unknown future. I think it is love that gave them the power to overcome those difficulties when I read this book. Strong as the difficulties were, their love became deeper and deeper. Although Fermina refused Arisa after she got to know his real character with time, the previous efforts were worth it for the

love had given her something priceless.

Love is changeable for the reason that so many uncertain factors are affecting it in every moment. Just like the paragraphs of the book, where Fermina realized she didn't love Arisa as soon as she saw him in the market. It is likely that their romantic relationship before this meeting was just a sweet but unrealistic dream, and I think it is the reason why she suddenly decided to break up with him. Another example is that she decides to have a try on Dr Urbino. In my opinion, it is partly because of her cousin's help and the elimination of their misunderstanding, but the biggest reason is that she becomes mature and has to choose the steady love for the rest of her life, instead of wild and dreamy love. At the same time, her father gave no obstacle to this man who came from an illustrious family. These factors all have strong influences on the appearance and development of their love.

Interestingly, love can also overcome lots of factors, for it can be always refilled under the joint efforts of the two. After marriage Fermina and Urbino's life was not always smooth but they could often compromise to each other and find all possible chances to rebuild the close relationship between them. Even in tough situations like cheating and

having an affair with another woman, they could be magnanimous and reconcile with time. They were inclusive while writing their love story together, which always made all problems solved. And this is why they love each other so long, even to the very last moment of Urbino's life, he could manage to say to her with his last breath: 'only God knows how much I love you', no matter how much they used to argue.

What decides the ending of a love story is reality, but when the story comes to an end, love is going to continue possibly. In this novel Arisa loved Fermina from beginning to end whether she loved him or not. He took his love as a motivator which made him a better man. In the course of his long wait of fifty-three years, seven months and eleven days, he had met a great number of women, but when it comes to the only choice, he would surely give them up for the pursuit of Fermina's heart without hesitation. He insisted his romanticism all his life, which kept him from being afraid of aging, disease and war. He was always so dynamic because of his love, and that is what love is all about.

I don't think it is a tragedy after reading. From my perspective, love has no expiration, no age and no time limit. Not only do I like the brave love between Fermina and Arisa,
