A fox fell into a well and couldn't get out. By and by a thirsty goat came along. Seeing the fox in the well it asked if the water was good."Good?" said the fox. "It's the best water I've tasted in all my life. Come down and try it yourself."The goat thought of nothing but how thirsty he was. So he jumped into the well at once. When he had drunk enough, he looked around but there was no way to get out. Then the fox said, "I have a good idea. You stand on your hind legs and put your forelegs against the side of the well. Then I'll climb on your back, from there I can step on your horns, and I can get out. And when I'm out, I'll help you out too."The goat did as he was asked and the fox climbed on to his back and so out of the well. Then he coolly walked away. The goat called out loudly after him and reminded him of his promise to help him out.The fox merely turned to him and said, "If you only had as much sense in your head as you have hairs in your beard, you would never have jumped into the well without making sure that you could get out again."

Once upon a time, in a lush green valley surrounded by towering mountains, there lived a clever fox and a wise old goat. The fox, named Felix, was known for his cunning nature, while the goat, named Gordon, was admired for his wisdom. One scorching summer day, the valley faced a severe drought, and water became scarce. Felix, being the sly character he was, hatched a plan to find water. He approached Gordon with a proposal.“Dear Gordon,” began Felix, “I've heard of a magical well on top of the mountain that never runs dry. If we work together, I can guide you to it, and we'll both have all the water we need.”Gordon, being wise, hesitated for a moment but eventually agreed. The two set out on their journey, climbing the steep mountain path. As they reached the summit, Felix pointed to a well and said, “There it is, Gordon! But to drink from it, you need to stand on your hind legs and lean over the edge.”Eagerly, Gordon followed the instructions. As he leaned over, Felix slyly pushed him into the well, securing all the water for himself. The cunning fox had tricked the wise old goat. However, Gordon, being wise and resourceful, quickly adapted. Instead of panicking, he started to swim in the well. With every stroke, he stirred the water, causing it to rise. Eventually, the water levelreached the top, and Gordon climbed out.Felix, astonished by Gordon's cleverness, admitted defeat. From that day forward, the wise old goat and the clever fox lived in the valley, sharing the water peacefully. The animals in the valley learned a valuable lesson about the importance of wit and wisdom over deception. And so, the unlikely duo became an example for others, proving that sometimes, even the slyest of plans can be outsmarted by wisdom and resourcefulness.

Its keen sense of smell led it to a narrow well, where it caught the scent of fresh fruit. Upon approaching the well, the fox saw a tree with ripe apples dangling temptingly from its branches. However, the well was deep, and the fox's short legs were not tall enough to reach the fruit. The fox sat by the well, pondering how it could possibly obtain the juicy apples. It tried jumping, but itsefforts were futile. Frustrated, the fox began to pace around the well, searching for a solution.Meanwhile, the goat was grazing peacefully in a nearby meadow.
The story of the fox and the goat tells of a crafty fox who uses his wits to deceive an unsuspecting goat. The setting is a deep well, and the fox finds himself unable to escape from it. Spotting the goat nearby, he devises a plan to entice the goat into the well so that he can use the goat as a stepping stone to freedom. The fox approaches the goat and convincingly tells him that the water in the well is so refreshing and delicious that he cannot resist drinking it. The curious goat, taken in by the fox's lies, agrees to take a look. The fox, seeing his plan working, urges the goat to jump into the well, promising that they can both enjoy the water together. Unfortunately for the goat, once he jumps into the well, the fox promptly jumps out, leaving the goat stranded. The moral of the story is a warning against the dangers of naivety and trusting strangers too easily. It teaches us that we should always be cautious and think before acting, especially when it comes to matters of safety.

A FOX one day fell into a deep well and could find no means of escape. A Goat, overcome with thirst, came to the same well, and seeing the Fox, inquired if the water was good. Concealing his sad plight under a merry guise, the Fox
indulged in a lavish praise of the water, saying it was excellent beyond measure, and encouraging him to descend. The Goat, mindful only of his thirst, thoughtlessly jumped down, but just as he drank, the Fox informed him of the difficulty they were both in and suggested a scheme for their common escape. "If," said he, "you will place your forefeet upon the wall and bend your head, I will run up your back and escape, and will help you out afterwards." The Goat readily assented and the Fox leaped upon his back. Steadying himself with the Goat's horns, he safely reached the mouth of the well and made off as fast as he could. When the Goat upbraided him for breaking his promise, he turned around and cried out, "You foolish old fellow! If you had as many brains in your head as you have hairs in your beard, you would never have gone down before you had inspected the way up, nor have exposed
yourself to dangers from which you had no means of escape."
