The Tenth Edition of the Nice Classification system became effective on January 1, 20121. The table below provides a summary of noteworthy changes. This list is not exhaustive, however. For a comprehensive view of the changes and their impact on USPTO identification and classification policy, please see:

1 Applications filed at the USPTO on or after January 1, 2012, must comply with the Tenth Edition. In pending applications filed before January 1, 2012, the applicant may elect to comply with either Edition so long as the entire identification complies with the same Edition.
