Ⅰ.Historical Background

The movie ElizabethⅠ，the Golden Age first ran in 2007, it is a historic movie. If you want to understand the movie, here has to mention a famous woman Elizabeth. Elizabeth (7 September 1553―24 March 1603) was Queen of England and Ireland from 17 November 1558 until her death. Sometimes she is called The Virgin Queen or Good Queen Bess. At that period, England was in chaotic, different religious struggled seriously. So she promulgated the Supremacy Act to change the situation. A t this time, her sister Mary wanted to replace her position, in order to keep her throne, she must kill her. Because of money-shorted, Queen had to acquiesce in selling slaves for money, in 1568 Sir Frank Drake and a selling of slaves under the leadership of the fleet Sir John Hawkins is Spain the Royal Navy after the serious injury, Spain brought finance fleet was under the constant looting of pirates in England. The King decides to Mary's death as a pretext for invasion of England, to defeat England on Spain of its overseas colonies, and in continental Europe challenge. With its location and weather conditions, England routed the invading the Navy Armada.

Ⅱ.Plot Summery of Story

This movie looks like biographies. Its female leading is ElizabethⅠ. There are three main things in the movie. The first is fighting with Spain, Spain was greedy, and they wanted more. Elizabeth tried her best to make the Britain navy stronger, only this can protect their country more safety. The most glorious moment is she led the navy to beat Spanish Armada. It is worthy of golden age. The second is Mary's threat. Mary is Elizabeth’s sister but she plotted going to compete for the throne. In order to keep the throne stable, Elizabeth had to put her in death. The last thing is her marriage; she once loved a man Raleigh Knight. But he married her personal maid, she is sad, so she decided to devote her life into her country. Although she had many chases, she was single all her life.

The whole movie was full of plot and trial of political strength and love, but its theme is

singing praises to the Queen's wise decisions, and recorded her legendary and admirable life.

Ⅲ.Comments on the Movie

There was no wonder that the movie gained unexpected success. In 2008, it won the Oscar for Best Costume Design. Queen’s crenulated round collar, lighter feather adornment, cantabile skirts, and dainty embroideries. The color is brilliant and the line is smooth. Every scene is as beautiful as paintings.

If we come back to its details, you will find its plot is also wonderful. Queen spent her whole life leading the country and didn’t marry anyone. In fact, Elizabeth was talented in literature, she was good at six languages, She also engaged in writing and translation, she personally translated Horace's art of poetry, some of her speech and translations of his works has been handed down since that time. She brought the golden age of poetry and art. During the war, she was thoughtful and headed, in the battle, Elizabeth disregard for her personal safety concerns, Essex type in the primary with no guard without armor in reviewing Navy, and published one of the most famous speeches in history. What more, she was unflappable, when she met a killer in church, the killer was cruel but she was very calmed. No matter how serious the problems were. She was never afraid. After seeing the movie, I’m deeply moved by the Queen, although she gained great achievements for her country, but few people could see her difficulties behind her back and how largely she expend, I appreciate her ability and admire her courage.

She had a lot of faces. To face her people she was very kind, but to face her enemy she never thane hands be slack. Her motto was so speechless, in Latin language is ＂video et taceo＂. The words she had been in practice. She brought her country into the Golden Age, and her great achievement would be remembered forever.
