M: My pleasure. What do you want to know?

W: There’re many people who come here for traveling. And what attracts people to come to visit Harrogate?

M: Its clean air, attractive parks, and the absence of any industry, make this town an ideal spot for people looking for a quiet life.

W: Could you recommend some special resorts to me?

M: One of the things about Harrogate now is the large area of open park land right down into the middle of the town. It’s called Stray because people let their cattle stray on the land, which was common land. Then, the Stray became part of the land owned by Harrogate.

When he was three, his parents flashed cards with Chinese characters at his face, but he pushed them aside. Lin Ming’s mom believed he would learn when he was ready, but the time never came.

On a Chinese New Year’s Eve, Lin Ming’s uncle spoke to him in Chinese, but all he could do was staring at him, confused. “Still can’t speak Chinese?” He laughed, “You can’t even buy a fish in Chinatown.”“Hey, this is America, not China. I will get some right now without Chinese.” Lin Ming replied and turned to his mom for information. “When you get to the fish stand, remember to ask for fresh fish, Xin Xian Yu,” she said, handing over a $20 bill. Lin Ming repeated the words running downstairs into the streets of Chinatown.

He found the fish market surrounded i n a sea of customers. “I’d like to buy some fresh fish,” he shouted to the fisher man. But he ignored Lin Ming’s English words and turned to serve the next customer. Lin Ming felt embarrassed and cried out loudly, “Xian Sheng Yu, please”. The crowd erupted into laughter.
