I had reduced my backpack down to only essentials. It was laundry day in the mid-sized Indonesian city I happened to be in, meaning I was down to my last shirt, the least flattering shirt of my seven-day collection: a ratty conference T-shirt of a well-known American company I'd worn a hundred times. It was a shirt I didn't feel particularly flattering in, so I tried to stay indoors and used it as an opportunity to have a quiet, indoor day.I hadn't thought anything of the shirt until a young Indonesian man staying at my guest house saw me and immediately took notice of the logo of my ratty shirt. He was fascinated by it!“Where did you get this shirt? Did you go to this conference? I love this company! I wish I could buy this here in Indonesia.” I was moved by the idea that something I found so useless and unflattering could be valued so much by someone else. Without giving it another thought, I took off the ratty old shirt and gave it to him on the spot, leaving me shamelessly shirtless for the rest of laundry day, but content that I had found a better owner for my shirt.A month later, I was still traveling, with six shirts instead of seven, yet still rich in my items and with a fuller heart.1.The u nderlined word “essentials” in Paragraph 1 means . This is wonderful advice for a friendship, because it is really the only way to make sure that you are giving your friends everything you would want to be given in a friendship.Whenever you have a question about how you should treat a friend,it iseasy to find an answer simply by asking yourself what you would like your friend to do for you, if he or she is in your shoes.Even if you're always thinking about how you'd like to be treated, and your friends are too, there are problems that come up from time to time in each friendship, and it is important to understand how to deal with these problems so that you can build stronger and healthier friendships.Problems like friends getting boyfriends or girlfriends and not spending enough time with their friends,or even friends finding new friends and leaving old friends behind are problems that will probably come up with one or more of your friendships. It is important to know how to deal with these problems so that you can keep your friends and make new ones.No one wants to have a broken friendship.5.According to the writer, problems with friendships may appear when . They are very important signals(信号). T raffic lights are usually placed at busy street corners to help control traffic. Sometimes, they are on streets near schools and shops, too. Most young children are taught what each of the colored lights means, so everybody can stay safe. The first traffic signals were used for trains. The signals were put alongside railway tracks(轨道). The color red was used to mean "stop" because it warned people of danger . A red light was also the easiest color to see from a distance. T rain drivers could see the red "stop"light ahead and had enough time to slow down and stop their trains. A green light was used to mean "take care" and a white light meant "go ".However , there were many dangerous accidents on the train tracks. Some train drivers thought a star shining in the night sky was a white light that meant "go ". So the signals were swapped . The "go " light was changed to green and the "take care" light was changed to white.During these times, people travelled by train or in carts pulled by horses. Y ears later , when cars were built, people began to drive them because they could travel much faster than horses. However , the road rules for drivers were not very clear and many people were hurt crossing the roads. Y ellow warning signs had to be placed beside the roads to remind drivers to take care and allow people to cross safely.T oday, towns and cities all over the world have traffic lights. Red and green lights match the signals used on the railways. Y ellow lights are easy to see, so they are used to warn drivers that they should slow down and prepare to stop.(1)A.Designed. A lot of animals travel from one place to another . We call this migration. In Africa, large animals, like elephants and zebras, migrate to find food and water . They usually follow the same ways every year .A lot of birds migrate to find food and better weather , too. They are usually birds that eat insects. They spend the summer in northern Europe, because there are lots of insects there. In the winter there aren't any insects, so the birds fly south to southern Europe and Africa. Some insects migrate, too. In North America, millions of monarch butterflies fly south to spend the winter in Mexico, California and Florida, where it's warmer . They travel 50-65km each day and they travel about 1, 125km.Some fish migrate to breed(繁殖). Salmon(鲑鱼)can swim over 20, 000km in their life. They are born in rivers in Ireland, Scotland and other places in northern Europe. The young fish swim down the river to the sea and into the Atlantic Ocean. They live in the ocean until they are adults. Then they return to the river where they were born. They lay their eggs in the river and then they usually die. Salmon do this, because their eggs are safer in the river . Other fish can't eat them.Arctic terns(北极燕鸥〉travel the furthest when they migrate. They spend the summer in the Arctic, but when winter comes they fly to the Antarctic, because it's summer there. The next(1)(2)(3)(4)year they fly back to the Arctic again. In one year these small birds travel 36, 000km from one end of the earth to the other and back again. Well that's what's happening in my community. There's a park that some people want to turn into a golf course(高尔夫球场). Let me tell you why I think it's a bad idea.First, a park is meant to be for the whole community. Not everyone likes golf, so not everyone will get to use the park. This isn't fair . A community park should have open spaces for everyone to use.Second, to make way for the golf course, lots of playground equipment(设施)will have to be moved or knocked down, which is a waste of time and money. It's also a waste of perfectly good equipment. The swings, for example, will probably just end up as litter .Third, what about giving young people something to do? Not all kids are crazy about golf.At the moment, the park has a skating place and a playground. These attract lots of kids from the community. If you turn the park into a golf course, these kids won't have anywhere to go and they won't have anything to do. This means that they will stay at home and turn on a(1)(2)(3)video game rather than get some exercise. It also means that they might be out on the street causing trouble. Wouldn't it be better to give them something to do at the park? Finally, golf is expensive. Building a golf course and maintaining(维护)it costs a lot of money. Who is going to pay to maintain the golf course? What about those people who can't afford to join a golf club? That means that the golf course will only be available to people with lots of money.T urning our park into a golf course is a bad idea. I suggest we have a community meeting before plans go any further .Some people want to change the park into .A.a golf clubB.a golf courseC.a parking placeD.a skating place According to Paragraph 4, having nowhere to go will make some children .A.go to get some exerciseB.fall in love with golfC.play video games at homeD.go to the street and make friendsWhich of the following shows the structure of the passage?(P=Paragraph)A.B.C.(4)D.What is the writer's purpose in writing this passage?A.T o help carry out further plans.B.T o make the park more beautiful.C.T o encourage children to go skating.D.T o stop the golf course from being built.二、信息匹配(本大题共5小题,每小题2分,共10分)5. 1Hopes, ambitions(抱负), dreams. How many of yours will you achieve? When you look back at your life in the future, will you have good memories of all the things that you did? Or will you regret all the things that you didn't do?Of course, there's no easy road to success, but one thing is certain: success won't come if you don't do anything. So how do you do it? This four-step model will help you to make your dreams come true.Step 1: 2What would you like to do? Write down all your ambitions. They may be very general, such as I would like to be fitter. I want to be famous. or It would be nice to have more friends. Or they may be more specific, like I've always wanted to play a musical instrument.Step 2: 3Now you need to do two things:1. Choose one or two ambitions. If you try to do everything, you won't do anything.2. Set a time limit(限定). This is very important, because you will have a goal and you will also know when you have reached it.So, for example, I would like to be fitter. In Step 1 now becomes I will be fit enough to join a half-marathon race by the end of August.Step 3: 4Now that you've made your choice, what are you actually going to do to achieve your goal? So, in our example, I will be fit enough to join a half-marathon race by the end of August. becomes I'm going to join a running club. or I'm going to go jogging three times a week.Step 4: 5This is when you change your intentions(意图)into specific actions. Prepare to do something at a specific time. If you don't do this, your dreams and plans will just stay as dreams and plans. So now I'm going to join a running club. becomes I'm meeting the president of the Cheetahs Running Club on Monday evening at 5:30.Don't let your ambitions die. Follow this four-step plan and make your dream come true.A.Change I would like to…to I will…B.Change I did…to I do…C.How to be successfulD.Change I'm going to…to I'm doing…on…at…E.Think about your ambitionsF.Change I will…to I'm going to…三、完形填空(本大题共15小题,每小题1分,共15分)6.Eddie was filled with excitement. light was used to mean "take care" and a white light meant "go".However, there were many dangerous accidents on the train tracks. Some train drivers thought a star shining in the night sky was a white light that meant"go".So the signals were swapped. The "go" light was changed to green and the "take care" light was changed to white.During these times, people travelled by train or in carts pulled by horses.Years later, when cars were built, people began to drive them because they could travel much faster than horses. However, the road rules for drivers were not very clear and many people were hurt crossing the roads.Yellow warning signs had to be placed beside the roads to remind drivers to take care and allow people to cross safely.Today, towns and cities all over the world have traffic lights.Red and green lights match the signals used on the railways.Yellow lights are easy to see,so they are used to warn drivers that they should slow down and prepare to stop.(1)Why was the color ways every year.A lot of birds migrate to find food and better weather, too. They are usually birds thateat insects. They spend the summer in northern Europe, because there are lots of insects there. In the winter there aren't any insects,so the birds fly south to southern Europe and Africa,Some insects migrate, too. In North America, millions of monarch butterflies fly southto spend the winter in Mexico,California and Florida, where it's warmer. They travel 50一65 km each day and they travel about 1,125 km,Some fish migrate to breed(繁殖).Salmon(鲑鱼)can swim over 20,000 km in their life. They are born in rivers in Ireland,Scotland and other places in northern Europe. The young fish swim down the river to the sea and into the Atlantic Ocean. They live in the ocean until they are adults. Then they return to the river where they were born,They lay their eggs in the river and then they usually die.Salmon do this, because their eggs are safer in the river,Other fish can't eat them.Arctic terns (北极燕鸥)travel the furthest when they migrate. They spend the summer in the Arctic, but when winter comes they fly to the Antarctic, because it's summer there. The next year they fly back to the Arctic what's happening in my community. There's a park that some people want to turn into a golf course (高尔夫球场).Let me tell you why I think it's a bad idea.First,a park is meant to be for the whole community. Not everyone likes golf,so not everyone will get to use the park. This isn't fair.A community park should have open spaces for everyone to use.Second,to make way for the golf course, lots of playground equipment(设施)will have to be moved or knocked down, which is a waste of time and money. It's also a waste of perfectly good equipment,The swings, for example, will probably just end up as litter.Third, what about giving young people something to do?Not all kids are crazy about golf.At the moment, the park has a skating place and a playground. These attract lots of kids from the community. If you turn the park into a golf course, these kids won't have anywhere to go and they won't have anything to do.This means that they will stay at home and turn on a video game rather than get some exercise. It also means that they might be out on the street causing trouble.Wouldn't it be better to give them something to do at the park? Finally, golf is expensive.Building a golf course and maintaining(维护)it costs a lot of money.Who is going to pay to maintain the golf course? What about those people who can't afford to join a golf club? That means that the golf course will only be available to people with lots of money.Turning our park into a golf course is a bad idea.I suggest we have a community meeting before plans go any further.(1)Some people want to change the park into.A.a golf clubB.a golf courseC.a parking placeD.a skating place(2)According to Paragraph 4,having nowhere to go will make some children.A.go to get some exerciseB.fall in love with golfC.play video games at homeD.go to the street and make friends(3)Which of the following shows the structure of the passage?(P=Paragraph)(4)What is the writer's purpose in writing this passage?A.To help carry out further plans.B.To make the park more beautiful.C.To encourage children to go skating.D.To stop the golf course from being built.第二节(共1小题,每小题10分,满分10分)下面文章中有五处(第31- all the things that you did?Or will you regret all the things that you didn't do?Of course, there's no easy road to success, but one thing is certain:success won't come if you don't do anything. So how do you do it?This four﹣step model will help you to make your dreams come true.Step 1:What would you like to do?Write down all your ambitions,They may be very general, such as I would like to be fitter.I want to be famous.or It would be nice to have more friends.Or they may be more specific, like I've always wanted to play a musical instrument.Step 2:Now you need to do two things:1.Choose one or two ambitions. If you try to do everything, you won't do anything.2.Set a time limit(限定).This is very important, because you will have a goal and you will also know when you have reached it.So,for example,I would like to be fitter in Step 1 now becomes I will be fit enough to join a half﹣marathon race by the end of August.Step 3:Now that you' ve made your choice, what are you actually going to do to achieve your goal? So,in our example,I will be fit enough to join a half﹣marathon race by the end of August.becomes I'm going to join a running club.or I 'm going to go jogging three times a week.Step4:This is when you change your intentions(意图)into specific actions,Prepare to do something at a specific time.If you don't do this, your dreams and plans will just stay as dreams and plans. So now I'm going to join a running club.becomes I'm meeting the president of the Cheetahs Running Club on Monday evening at 5:30.Don't let your ambitions die.Follow this four step plan and make your dream come true.A.Change I would like to…to I will…B.Change I did…to I do…C.How to be successfulD.Change I'm going to…to I'm doing…on…at…E.Think about your ambitionsF.Change I will…to I'm going He decided to raise money for a well(井) so that people in Africa could have clean water. He did extra chores for his parents and raised $70 all by himself. Then he found out that it actually cost $2,000 to dig a well. Most people would have given up at this point, but not Ryan. He was disappointed, but determined to raise more money. Finally he collected over $2,000. That money was used to dig the first of “Ryan's wells”.Since then, Ryan has continued to raise money for more wells. Believe it or not, that’s exactly what world leaders did at a lunch held by the United Nations in 2020.During the meal, the world leaders enjoyed dishes like salads and burgers made withthrown-away vegetables and fruits. Chef Dan Barber, who helped create the meal, hoped that the experience would make the leaders pay more attention to the issue of food waste. It is a huge problem. One out of nine people on Earth does not get enough food. Yet every year over one third of the food produced worldwide goes to waste! Why is so much food wasted? Firstly, food is often thrown away before it reaches customers because too much of it is produced, or because it is not kept properly in farms. Secondly, shops and supermarkets usually throw away unsold food. Finally, customers often buy more food than they need, so a lot of uneaten food is wasted. How can you waste less food? When eating out, you may ask for less food and take home what is left. Visit fast food restaurant less often, since they usually more wasteful. Encourage your favorite restaurants to give unsold food to food banks. You can also waste less food at home. Use smaller rice bowls so that you serve less rice. Encourage family members to use unfinished rice to make rice puddings. Not only are they sweet and delicious, but they are easy to carry around, so you can take them anywhere. Best of all, bananas provide different things that the human body needs!Bananas grow best in warm places that get lots of rain. They grow on plants that look like trees. The banana plant, however, is considered a herb rather than a tree because it doesn’t have a strong , woody stem(茎,干). The plants can grow as high as 30 feet. When they reach their full height, flowers grow out from the stem. These flowers produce bananas. Two or three times each year, the plants produce fruit. The bananas grow together, which seem like “hands”. A hand is made up of 10 to 20 bananas. Growers som etimes call bananas “fingers”. Each bunch(丛)of bananas has about 15 hands, and so a whole bunch may have as many as 200 bananas and can weigh more than 100 pounds. After about three months, the bananas are ready to be picked. At this point, they still aren’t the sunny yellow color of bananas. Farmers pick them when they’re green. That’s how they’re shipped to stores. They turn yellow along the way and are ready to be sold.If you love bananas, you’ve got a lot of company. Americans have been enjoying ba nanas since the first shipment arrived in the United States in 1876. Today, American eat more bananas than any other fruit. More bananas are sold than apples and grapes together. Every American eats over 26 pounds of bananas each year!23.The first paragraph mainly talks about .A.why people like bananasB.how bananas tasteC.what bananas are rich inD.where bananas are taken24.What is the correct order in which these happen?a. Grapes.C. Bananas.D. OrangesThere is a popular Chinese saying that “Fair skin(皮肤) will make up for three flaws(缺陷)”. This mentions the fact that in Chinese culture, it is believed that people who have fair skin are more beautiful. In Western culture, however, the opposite is true — many Westerners think tanned skin is prettier. The example shows that different cultures have different ideas of what they think is beautiful. These cultural meanings of the beauty, however, are no longer important. As more and more people travel overseas, ideas about beauty are being shared among cultures. The Internet has also made it easier for people to share different types of beauty since people are always posting pictures on social media. The result is an ever-changing idea of what is considered beautiful. The cultural practice of ear piercings, for example, has become a part of modern day culture. In Kenya, it is a tradition among Masai men and women to pierce and then make their ear lobes( 耳垂) longer using ivory and wood or stones. They then wear colorful things on their ear lobes. This is a common practice since longer ear lobes are seen as a sigh of beauty. This tradition has now found its way into present-day culture. Nowadays, this might still seem unusual to some, but with more and more well-known actors and film stars showing off their longer ear lobes, it will finally become more fashionable. It is understood that different cultures around the world have different ways of showing beauty. However, since we now live in a worldwide society, people’s views about beauty are always changing. With the help of the Internet, people are now able to easily borrow ideas from other cultures to help them stand out. So what new fashions can we expect to see in the future?27.What has made it easier for people to share ideas about beauty?A.The development of technology.B.The popularity of the latest fashions.C.The unchanged cultural traditions.D.The world’s growing population.28.What can be learned about the Masai people from the passage?A.Longer ear lobes are their new fashion.B.Only women make their ear lobes longer.C.They think longer ear lobes look beautiful.D.They make actors and film stars famous.29.The underlined word “them” in the last paragraph refers to .A. peopleB. ideasC. culturesD. fashions30.What is the passage mainly about?A.People in Asian countries like fair skin better.B.Beauty is considered important in many cultures.C.Different cultures have different ideas about beauty.D.People’s ideas about beauty are changing all the time.第二节(共5 小题,每小题 2 分,满分10 分)下面文章中有五处(第31-35 题)需要添加小标题。

Money makes the world go around, yet the best things in life are free. A penny saved is a penny earned, but you get what you pay for. You probably have your own ideas about spending money. Now it is a great time to learn how to spend money wisely. When you are considering buying something you want, run through this checklist first.1.Seeing a $25(172 yuan) gum ball machine, Peter wanted it at first. But after thinking about it, he decided that it would be exciting only for a day or two.“Besides, it's impossible for me to chew much gum,” he said wisely.2.If the thing passes the “really-wanting-it” test, try to wait for some time(maybe some days or a week) to see how strong the desire is. Perhaps at that time, you don't want it any longer. This strategy works for grown-ups, too!3.After the first two steps, Peter found he really wanted a toy ship, but it cost $50.He had $22 in his pocket and got $1.50 a week to spend. His mother helped him work out how many weeks he would need to save enough money to get the ship.4.Peter had a lot of things to do to help his family. He could water the flowers, do the dishes or walk the dog. Finally, he decided to wash the downstairs windows at a dollar each. He got $10 for himself, and sparkling(闪亮的) sunlight for the rest of the family.5.After deciding to buy it, it is necessary for you to look for cheaper ways to buy it: search for what you want on the Internet or in shops and flea markets. His parents always had him doing lots of housework such as carrying out the rubbish and sending newspapers. But when he grew up, he was better off than his childhood friends and lived a happier and healthier life. This is the finding of a 40-year study that followed the lives of 456 children in London. It showed that the children who had worked hard in childhood had a richer and a happier future. “Children who worked in the home or community gained competence(能力) and came to feel they were worthwhile members of society,” sa id Daniel Brown, the psychologist(心理学家) who made the discovery. “And because they felt good about themselves, others felt good about them.”Brown's study followed these children in great detail. Interviews were repeated at ages 25, 31 and 47. Under Brown, the researchers compared the children's mental-health scores with their childhood-activity scores. Points were awarded for part-time jobs, housework, effort in school, and ability to deal with problems.Working at any age is important. Childhood activities help a child develop responsibility, independence, confidence and competence—the underpinnings(基础) of emotional health. They also help him understand that people must cooperate and work toward common goals. The most competent adults are those who know how to do this.Yet work isn't everything. As Tolstoy once said, “One can live magnificently in this world if one knows how to work and how to love, to work for the person one loves and to love one's work.”4.What do we know about Justin Tong? ( )A.He enjoyed a happy life.B.He felt sorry for the other kids.C.He always sold newspapers.D.He seldom collected rubbish.5.Who will probably succeed in the future according to Paragraph 2?
