You should decide on the best answer and mark it by crossing thecorresponding letter on the Answer Sheet with a pencil.Passage oneToday we visited the Field Museum to see the new dinosaur (恐龙) exhibit. At first I wasn't interested in seeing an old pile of bones. Why would anyone want to learn about something that's not around anymore?First we walked into a big room.I was staring at the bones of a giant beast! It almost filled the room. Two huge, dark holes in its boney head stared back at me. It was Dinosaur Sue.Our guide told us that when Sue was living, she weighed more than 150 fourth graders put together! He asked us to look at her teeth which were long and sharp. The guide said Sue’s teeth show that she was a meat eater.I’m glad I wasn’t around when the dinosaurs were alive. I might have been lunch for her!As I looked at it,I imagined what the dinosaur had looked like when it was alive.Suddenly I realized that these bones had once belonged to a living creature here on Earth. It made me wonder about other creatures that had once lived here. NowI understand why people want to learn about these creatures.Perhaps I will hunt for dinosaur bones someday. It would be very exciting to find a dinosaur skeleton(骨架).41. When the author first got to the museum, she .A) was eager to see the giant beastB) didn’t want to know about dinosaursC) didn’t want to see the boney headD) was sad to look at the dead dinosaurs42. We can learn from Paragraph 2 that the author was .A) worried the dinosaur might be aliveB) afraid of being lunch for the dinosaurC) glad that Dinosaur Sue was a meat eaterD) surprised by the size of the skeleton43. This passage mainly talks about _________?A) the weights and sizes of dinosaursB) the description of the author’s interests in dinosaursC) the change of the author’s attitude toward dinosaursD) the experience of hunting for dinosaur bonesPassage TwoIs organic food better? Most of the parents say it is, at least in part: “In organic food, there is less pesticide residues (农药残留) ”, say some parents. Early childhood exposure to lead and other poisonous substances at very low levels is now known to be harmful, so parents think caution should be in order.“Clearly if you eat organic product, you have fewer poisonous substances in your body, ”Joel Forman, an associate professor says. That’s particularly important for young children, he says, because they are especially easy to be hurt by chemical exposure while their brains are developing. That puts parents in a difficult situation, because they also want children to eat more fresh fruits and vegetables, not less. But organic food still cost more in most cases, and many parents can’t afford to buy it only.Suggestions are made that parents should think about buying organic fruits and vegetables that are more likely to contain more pesticide residue, and going conventional for those that tend to have less.Another similar case is about milk, conventionally –raised cows are often fed antibiotics(抗生素) to stimulate growth, and parents are worried that this may do harm to children. “Growth hormone(激素) in cows doesn’t work in people,” Forman says. “There’s very little in the milk. And even if there was, it wouldn’t be absorbed. ”46. Parents are worried about .A) chemical exposure to milk B) high cost of organic vegetablesC) poisonous substances in food D) growth hormone in fruits47. According to this passage, Joel Forman’s remarks .A) caused parents to buy less fruits B) made parents feel easyC) solved patents’ problems D) confirmed parents’ worries48. Parents are in a difficult situation because .A) there is still pesticide residue in organic fruits and vegetablesB) organic food costs so much that no parents can afford itC) they can hardly afford enough organic food for their childrenD) children will be exposed to more poisonous substances in organic food49. A possible solution is to buy organic vegetables and fruits that are likely to contain .A) more pesticide residue B) less pesticide residueC) less growth hormone D) more growth hormone50. Joel Forman says in the last paragraph that growth hormone in milk _________.A) does little harm B) is very harmfulC) stimulates children’s growth D) is completely absorbed by cows Passage ThreeDiana Jacobs thought her family had a workable plan to pay for college for her 21-year-old twin sons: a combination of savings, income, scholarships, and a modest amount of borrowing. Then her husband lost his job, and the plan fell apart(失败,破裂).The Jacobs family worked out a solution: They asked and received more aid from the schools, and each son increased his borrowing to the maximum amount through the government loan program. The twin sons will be able to finish school. With unemployment rising, financial aid administrators expect to hear more families like the Jacobs. More students are applying for aid, and more families expect to need student loans. College administrators are concerned that they will not have enough aid money to go around. At the same time, tuition(学费)continues to rise and student borrowing has more than doubled in the last decade. It is reported that most middle class families have been financing college education through debt. They will send kids to college whatever it takes, even if that means a huge amount of debt.Financial aid administrators have been having a hard time as many companies decide thatstudent loans are not profitable enough and have stopped making them. The good news, however, is that federal loans account for about three quarters of student borrowing, and the government says that money will flow uninterrupted.51. According to the first paragraph, why did the plan of the Jacobs family fail?A) The family fell apart. B) The tuition was raised.C) Their savings ran out. D) The father was out of work.52. How did the Jacobs manage to solve their problem?A) They got help from the schools and the government.B) They borrowed a large sum of money from the schools.C) They encouraged their twin sons to do part-time jobs.D) They told their children to drop out of school.53. Financial aid administrators believe that .A) college tuition fees will double in the next decadeB) the government will receive more letters of complaintC) more families will face the same problem as the JacobsD) they will have enough money to support poor students.54. What can we learn about the middle class families from the passage?A) They blame the government for the college tuition increase.B) They earn enough to support their kids’ college education.C) They will try their best to send their kids to college.D) Their debts will be paid off within a decade.55. According to the past paragraph, the government will .A) provide most students with scholarshipsB) cut down financial aid to college studentsC) stop the companies from providing student loansD) go on providing financial support for college studentsPassage FourBlind imitation (模仿) is self-destruction. But in the early stages of skill or character development, imitation is helpful. When I first learned to cook, I used recipes (菜谱) and turned out some tasty dishes. In daily life, imitation can hurt us if we subconsciously (下意识地) hold poor role models. If, as a child, you observed people whose lives were bad, you may have accepted their fear and pain as normal and gone on to follow what they did. If you do not make strongchoices for yourself, you will get the results of the weak choices of others. If you are going to follow someone, focus on their talent, not their bad character or unacceptable behaviors.Blessed(幸福的) is the person willing to act on their sudden desire to create something unique. Think of the movies, books, teachers, and friends that have affected you most deeply. They touched you because their creations were motivated by inspiration, not desperation. The world is changed not by those who do what has been done before them, but by those who do what has been done inside them. Creative people have an endless resource of ideas. The problem a creator faces is not running out of material; it is what to do with the material knocking at the door of imagination.Study your role models, accept the gifts they have given, and leave behind what does not serve you.56. 201511月1日北京地区成人本科学士学位英语统一考试真题及答案解析

Part I Reading Comprehension (30%)Directions: There are three passages in this part. Each passage is followed by some questions or unfinished statements. For each of them there are four choices marked A, B, C and D. You should decide on the best choice and blacken the corresponding letter on the Answer Sheet.Passage 1Questions 1 to 5 are based on the following passage:Jarden Zinc (锌) Products, a large zinc plant a few miles outside Greeneville, Tennessee, has a special claim. Since 1982, it has been the only supplier of penny blanks for the U.S. Mint (铸币厂). It's a good business for Jarden-since 2000, the company has earned more than $ 800 million. But it may not be a good deal for the U.S.(76) The value of the penny has been dropping for years. In 2006, it began to cost more than a penny to make a penny. It now costs 2 C to produce a 1 C coin. Many countries have stopped using pennies. Is it time for the U.S. to do the same?Jarden and the zinc industry are fighting to keep the penny. Since 2006, Jarden has given $1.2 million to Americans for Common Cents (ACC). The group's mission is to keep the penny in use. Mark Weller is ACC's executive director. He argues that there are three main reasons for keeping the penny: Without it, we would become more reliant on the five-cent coin, which also has problems; charities (慈善机构) that depend on penny drives would not be able to raise as much money; and a 2012 survey shows that 67% of Americans want to keep the penny. (77) Many people surveyed said they feared they would end up paying more for products. Many experts disagree with ACC, They point to the dozens of countries that have gotten rid of their lowest-value coins without raising prices for consumers. And charities don't seem too concerned either.President Barack Obama says the mint could explore using cheaper metals to make pennies. Steel is less expensive than zinc. Pennies are 97.5% zinc and 2.5% copper. But no matter what it is made of, the penny's days may be numbered. Most in-store purchases are now made with credit cards, not cash.

如:① Neither of the young men who had applied for a position in the university ________.A)has been acceptedB)have been acceptedC)was acceptedD)were accepted答案为C)。

② The course normally attracts 20 students per year, ______ up to half will be from overseas.A)in whichB)for whichC)with whichD)of which答案为D)。

The course normally attracts 20 students per year, up to half of which will be from overseas. 20 students.③ The committee has met and ________.A)they have reached a decisionB)it has formulated themselves some opinionsC)its decision was reached atD)it has reached a decision此题四个选择项中,A)本身无语法错误,故不能排除。

On the contrary, both their knowledge and experience are enriched. We feel that there are many disadvantages in streaming(把…… It does not take into account the fact that children develop at different rates. It can have a bad effect on both the bright and the not-so-bright child. After all, it can be quite discouraging to be at the bottom of the top grade!Besides, it is rather unreal to grade people just according to their intellectual ability. This is only one aspect of their total personality. We are concerned to develop the abilities of all our pupils to the full, not just their academic ability. We also value personal qualities and social skills and we find that mixed-ability teaching contributes to all these aspects of learning. In our classrooms, we work in various ways. The pupils often work in groups: this gives them the opportunity to learn to cooperate, to share, and to develop their leadership skills. They also learn how to cope with personal problems as well as learning how to think, to make decisions, to analyze and evaluate, and to communicate effectively. The pupils learn from each other as well as from the teacher.Sometimes the pupils work in pairs;sometimes they work on individual tasks and assignments, and they can do this at their own speed. They also have some formal class teaching when this is appropriate. We encourage our pupils to use the library, and we teach them the skills they need in order to do this efficiently. An advanced pupil can do advanced work;it does not matter what age the child is.We expect our pupils to do their best, not their least, and we give them every encouragement to attain this goal.21.In the passage the writer's attitude towards "mixed-ability teaching" is ( ).A. criticalB. questioningC. approvingD. objective22.By "held back" the writer means"( )".A.made to remain in the same classesB.forced to study in the lower classesC.drawn to their studiesD.prevented from advancing23. The writer argues that a teacher's chief concern should be the development of the student's ( ).A.personal qualities and social skillsB.total personalityC.learning ability and communicative skillsD.intellectual ability24.Which of the following is not mentioned in the third paragraph?A.Group work gives pupils the opportunity to learn to work together with others.B.Pupils also learn to develop their reasoning abilities.C.Group work provides pupils with the opportunity to learn to be capable organizers.D.Pupils also learn how to participate in teaching activities.25.The writer's purpose in writing this passage is to ( ).A.argue for teaching bright and not-so-bright pupils in the same classB.recommend pair work and group work for classroom activitiesC.offer advice on the proper use of the libraryD.emphasize the importance of appropriate formal classroom teachingPassage TwoThere was a time in my life when beauty meant something special to me.I guess that would have been when I was about six or seven years old, just several weeks or maybe a month before the orphanage(孤儿院)turned me into an old man.I would get up every morning at the orphanage, make my bed just like the little soldier that I had become and then I would get into one of the two straight lines and march to breakfast with the other twenty or thirty boys who also lived in my dormitory. After breakfast one Saturday morning I returned to the dormitory and saw the house parent chasing the beautiful monarch butterflies who lived by the hundreds in the bushes scattered around the orphanage.I carefully watched as he caught these beautiful creatures, one after another, and then took thegn from the net and then stuck straight pins through their head and wings, pinning them onto a heavy cardboard sheet. How cruel it was to kill something of such beauty.I had walked many times out into the bushes, all by myself, just so the butterflies could land on my head, face and hands so I could look at them up close. When the telephone rang the house parent laid the large cardboard paper down on the back cement(水泥) step and went inside to answer the phone.I walked up to the cardboard and looked at the one butterfly who he had just pinned to the large paper. It was still moving about so I reached down and touched it on the wing causing one of the pins to fall out.It started flying around and around trying to get away but it was still pinned by the one wing with the other straight pin. Finally its wing broke off and the butterfly fell to the ground and just trembled.I picked up the torn wing and the butterfly and I spat on its wing and tried to get it to stick back on so it could fly away and be free before the house parent came back. But it would not stay on him.26.The author set the living butterfly free because ( ).A.he liked it very muchB.he had sympathy for the beautiful butterflyC.he couldn't bear a butterfly dying in his favorite bushesD.its wing broke off27.According to the passage, the author's life in the orphanage was ( ).A.dull and full of strict rulesB.simple and easyC.happy and full of hopeD.hard and busy28. What is the author's attitude towards the house parent's pinning some butterflies on the cardboard?A. tolerantB. unconcernedC. disgustedD. discouraged29.We know from the passage that ( ).A.the author lived alone in the dormitoryB.there were one hundred butterflies living in the bushesC.the cardboard paper was left on the step so as to be watchedD.the author failed to stick the worn wing onto the butterfly with his spit30.Which of the following is right according to the passage?A.I found beauty meant nothing special to me.B.The house parent helped the children handle the quilt.C.The house parent chased the butterfly in order to show it to the children.D.I thought it cruel to catch the butterfly.Passage ThreeWhat exactly is a lie? Is it anything we say which we know is untrue? Or is it something more than that? For example, suppose a friend wants to borrow some money from you, you say "I wish I could help you but I'm short of money myself." In fact, you are not short of money but your friend is in the habit of not paying his debts and you don't want to hurt his feeling by reminding him of this.Is this really a lie?Professor Jerald Jellison of the University of Southern California has made a scientific study of lying.According to him, women are better liars than men, particularly when telling a "white lie".For instance, when a woman at a party tells another woman that she likes her dress, she really thinks it looks awful. However, this is only one side of the story. Other researchers say that men are more likely to tell more serious lies, such as making a promise which they have no intention of fulfilling. This is the kind of lie politicians and businessmen are supposed to be particularly skilled at: the lie from which the liar hopes to profit or gain in some way.Research has also been done into the way people's behavior changes in a number of small, apparently unimportant ways when they lie. It has been found that if they are sitting down at the time, they tend to move about in their chairs more than usual. To the trained observer they are saying "I wish I were somewhere else now" .They also tend to touch certain parts of the face more often, in particular the nose. One explanation of this may be that lying causes a slight increase in blood pressure. The tip of the nose is very sensitive to such changes and the increased pressure makes it itch.Another gesture which gives liars away is what the writer Desmond Morris in his book Man-watching calls "the mouth cover". He says there are several typical forms of this, such as covering part of the mouth with the fingers, touching the upper-lip or putting the hand at one side of the mouth.Such a gesture can be understood as an unconscious attempt on the part of the liar to stop himself or herself from lying.Of course, such gestures as rubbing the nose or covering the mouth or moving about in a chair cannot be taken as proof that the speaker is lying. They simply tend to occur more frequently in this situation. It is not one gesture alone that gives the liar away but a whole number of things, and in particular the context in which the lie is told.31.According to the passage, a "white lie" seems to be a lie ( ).A.that other people believeB.that other people don't believeC.told in order to avoid offending someoneD.told in order to take advantage of someone32.Research suggests that women ( ).A.are better at telling less serious lies than menB.generally lie far more than men doC.often make promises they intend to breakD.lie at parties more often that men do33.Researchers find that when a person tells lies ( ).A.his blood pressure increases measurablyB.he looks very seriousC.he tends to make some small changes in his behaviorD.he uses his unconscious mind34.One reason people sometimes rub their noses when they tell lies is that ( ).A.they wish they were somewhere elseB.the nose is sensitive to physical changes caused by lyingC.they want to cover their mouthsD.they are trying to stop themselves from telling lies35.Which of the following may best betray a liar?A.The touching of the tip of one's nose.B.The changes of one's behavior.C."The mouth cover" gesture.D.The circumstances in which his lie is told.Passage FourThroughout the past century humanity did everything in its power to control nature. We dammed earth's rivers, chopped down the forests and exhausted the soils. Burning up fuels, we pumped a great deal of greenhouse gases into the air, altering the chemistry of the atmosphere and warming the planet in just a few decades. And as our population began in the year 2000 above the 6 billion mark, still spreading across the continents, dozens of animal and plant species were dying out every, day, including the first primate(灵长类)to disappear in more than 100 years. As the start of the 21st century there were unmistakable signs that nature was beginning to take its revenge. Melting ice in both poles of the earth suggested that the climate was changing rapidly. Weather was even more changeable than usual, giving some places too little rain and others too much.Fires raced across the dried American West last summer, and recent storms spread damages from Britain to China. No specific event could be directly blamed on global warming.Floods and drought will be more frequent and severe.Other sad signs from an overburdenedplanet include falling grain and fish harvests and fierce competition for scarce water supplies. But there were also, in the year 2000, signs of great awareness.Connected by the Internet, hundreds of millions of people gathered for the 30th anniversary of Earth Day. Governments from Washington to Lima took steps to protect the large wild areas from development. Progress was made toward using more renewable energy from the wind and the sun, and new cars that used both gasoline and electricity spotted(显示) fuel-economy statistics. The goal for the new century is "sustainable development" .Is that possible? It depends on how well we understand that humanity is part of nature, not lord and master.36.What is the result of the human control over the nature?A.Natural resources are being exhausted.B.There is a global warming effect.C.Species of animals and plants are reduced.D.All of the above.37.It can be inferred from the passage that scarce water supplies are directly caused by ( ).A.less ice in both polesB.the more changeable weatherC.something not mentioned in the textD.the larger population38.Which of the following is true according to the passage?A.Ameriea suffered a lot from fires last summer.B.The American government tried to stop development.C.Humanity built many dams in the past century.D.Dozens of animals and plants will no longer exist in more than 100 years.39.The phrase " sustainable development" in the last paragraph probably means that economic development will ( ).A.continue for a long timeB.be more profitable than beforeC. support our growing populationD.make full use of natural resources40.The main purpose of the author is to make us ( ).A.see what damage humanity did to natureB.fight with nature and control itC.have more celebrations of Earth DayD.aware of the importance of environment protectionPart Ⅲ Cloze (10 points)Directions: There are 10 blanks in the following passage,For each blank there are 4 choices marked A,B, C and D. You should choose the ONE answer that best fits into the passage. Then mark the corresponding letter on the Answer Sheet One with a single line through the center.Nowadays, air travel is very 41 .We are not surprised when we watch on TV that a politician has talked with French President in Paris and attended a meeting in Beijing on the same day. However, if a person takes long-distance flying frequently, he can be so tired that he maybe feel his brain is in one country, his 42 in another. In a word, he 43 knows where he is.When we fly from east to west or vice versa, the 44 we experience after taking along-distance flying is aggravated, because we cross time zones. According to doctors, air travelers, after crossing several time zones, are in no 45 to go to work, and they should go straight to bed 46 arrival. As to airline pilots who often live by their own watches and ignore local time, there is no need for them to worry about their health although they sometimes have breakfast at midnight, because they are used to 47 and are physically fit. Many businessmen like long-distance flights, thinking they are 48 to have been chosen and they are out for promotion. They are lucky.if the company follows the doctor's advice and allow them to rest for a day or two before working. However, sometimes the manager is so energetic that he believes everyone is 49 to be as fit as he is.Since he has never felt uncomfortable after flying himself, the work he assigns is so 50 that the employee is too exhausted to carry the work out satisfactorily. That is disastrous for the employee's health and the company's reputation.41.A.ordinarymonC.plainual42. A. digestionB. concentrationC. friendsD.life43. A. almostB. nearlyC. hardlyD. practically44. A.wearyB. fatigueC. tiredD. strain45. A. statusB. stateC. situationD. condition46.A.inB.whenC.afterD.on47. A. flyB. flyingC.liveD.lives48. A. favoredB. flattenedC. flayedD. flattered49.A. likelyB. supposedC. goingD. expected50. A. demeaningB. demandingC. demonstrativeD. deplorablePart IV Translation (20 points)Directions: Read the following passage carefully. Then translate the underlined sentences marked from 51-55 into Chinese. You should write your translation on the Answer Sheet. As part of more comprehensive compliance and ethics programs, many companies have formulated internal policies pertaining to the ethical conduct of employees. These policies can be simple exhortations in broad, highly-generalized language (typically called a corporate ethics statement), or they can be more detailed policies, containing specific behavioral requirements (typically called corporate ethics codes).51They are generally meant to identify the company's expectations of workers and to offer guidance on handling some of the more common ethical problems that might arise in the course of doing business.52 It is hoped that having such a policy will lead to greater ethical awareness , consistency in application, andthe avoidance of ethical disasters.53. An increasing number of companies also requires employees to attend seminars regarding business conduct, which often include discussion of the company's policies, specific case studies, and leEal requirements. Some companies even require their employees to sign agreements stating that they will abide by the company's rules of conduct. Many companies are assessing the environmental factors that can lead employees to engage in unethical conduct.A competitive business environment may call forunethical behavior.Lying has become expected in fields such as trading. An example of this are the issues surrounding the unethical actions of the Saloman Brothers. Not everyone supports corporate policies that govern ethical conduct. Some claim that ethical problems are better dealt with by depending upon employees to use their own judgment.Others believe that corporate ethics policies are primarily rooted in utilitarian concerns, and that they are mainly to limit the company's legal liability, or to curry public favor by giving the appearance of being a good corporate citizen.Ideally, the company will avoid a lawsuit because its employees will follow the rules.54 .Should a lawsuit occur, the company can claim that the problem would not have arisen if the employee had only followed the code properly.Sometimes there is disconnection between the company's code of ethics and the company's actual practices. 55. Thus, whether or not such conduct is explicitly sanctioned by management, at worst, this makes the policy duplicitous(搞两面派的), and, at best, it is merely a marketing tool.Part V Writing(30 points)Study the following cartoon carefully and write an essay on it. Each o f the passages is followed by 5questions or unfinished statements. For each of them there are 4 choices marked A, B, C and D. Choose the best one and mark your answer on the ANSWER SHEET. Passage OneA few centuries ago, people looked at the birds and wondered what it would be like to fly like them. There were stories of heroes who glued bird feathers on their arms and flew up into the sky. About 500 years ago, some people dreamed a different dream. Instead of flying up to the sky, they dreamed of falling from the sky!In the 15th century, Italian inventors designed a cone-shaped(锥形) device that was supposed to bring a man down safely from a great height. The operator held on to a handle with a straps strapped to his waist. This was the first known design for a parachute (降落伞).Even the great inventor Leonardo da Vinci sketched a type of parachute. His parachute design was in the shape of pyramid(金字塔). Other inventors also sketched their owndesigns for a parachute. Unfortunately, these were only designs on paper and no one tested them.A Croatian inventor named Fausto Veranzio looked at Leonardo da Vinci’s parachute design and replaced the pyramid shape with one that looked like a sail from a ship. When Veranzio was 65years old, he fell ill. Thinking he would not live longer, he decided to try out his parachute invention. He built his parachute using wood and cloth. Straping his invention to his waist, he jumped off the tall bell tower in his city. He landed safely! He was supposedly the first man to successfully use a parachute. However, some other people thought this story was not true. If that was the case, then the first person to successfully use a parachute would go to a Frenchman named Louis-Sebastien Lenormand in 1783.16. The first known parachute was designed by ______.A. FrenchmanB. ItalianC. CroatiansD. Englishmen17. Leonardo da Vinci’s parachute was shaped like a ______.A. coneB. featherC. pyramidD. sail18. Which of the following is about Fausto Veranzio is trueA. He copied da Vinci’s parachute design.B. He made his parachute with feather and wood.C. He experimented with his parachute many times.D. He decided to try his parachute after he was seriously ill.19. As for the first man who successfully used a parachute, ______.A. it was said to be Leonardo da VinciB. we know for sure he was VeranzioC. there were some historical recordsD. we don’t know for sure yet20. The passage is mainly about ______.A. the origin of the parachuteB.The dreams of flying and fallingC. the courage of dropping from the skyD. the application of parachute inventionPassage TwoOut of all the students who enroll in a massive open online course(MOOC), only about 5 percent complete the course and receive a certificate accomplishment. This statistic is often cited as evidence thatMOOCs are fatally flawed(有缺陷的)and offer little educational value tomost students. Yet more than 80 percent of students who fill out a post-course survey say they met their primary objective. How do we lookat these two factsWe’re used to focusing on completion rates in higher education, but they’re not the only-or even the most meaningful –indicator of engagement in open online courses. With no cost to enroll, no punishment for dropping out, and little reward for actually earning a certificate, MOOCs are fundamentally different from traditional calssess –and students use them in fundamentally different ways.Data from more than 1.8 million students erolled in 36 MOOCs offered by the University of Pennsylvania show that students treat MOOCs like a buffet (自助餐), sampling the material according to their interests and career goals. Some are curious about the subject matter and just watch one or two video lectures; others use the discussion forums to connect with their intellectual peers around the world. Of all enrolled students, nearly 60 percent watch at least one vedio, complete at least one assignment, or post at least once in a forum. So focusing on the tiny fraction of students who complete a MOCC is misguided. The more important number is the 60 percent engagement rate. Students may not finish a MOOC with a certificate of accomplishment, but the courses nonetheless meet the educational goals of millions.21. What do we learn about MOOCs from Para.1A. There seems to be conflicting statistics about MOOCs.B. It turns out that MOOCs have failed people’s expectations.C. Most students find it hard to judge the value of MOOcs.D. The educational value of MOOCs is well acknowledged.22. In Para.2, the author stresses ______.A. the primary objective of MOOC studentsB. the significance of competion rates in educationC. the strengths and weakness of open online coursesD. the differences between MOOCc and trditional classes23. According to Para. 3, students choose MOOCs for the following reasons EXCEPT ______.A. earning a certificateB. improving job-related skillsC. meeting their interest in the subjectsD. exchanging ideas with students worldwide24. The sentence “students treat MOOCs as a buffet” (Para.3) ______.A. emphasizes the core value of MOCCsB. demonstrates the daily operation of MOOCsC. indicates students are free to choose MOOC resourcesD. explains what students learn from MOOC courses25. What is the author’s attitude toward MOOCsA. Critical.B. Supportive.C. Indifferent.D. Neutral.Passage ThreeWhether you are hiking through the magnificent redwoods of Northern California, sleeping under the brilliant stars of the Texas sky or watching the sun rise across the rocky cliffs of Maine, expecting the outdoor world can be inspiring, thrilling, and deeply satisfying. And one of the best ways to enjoy the abundant gifts of the natural world is simple, inexpensive, and available to almost every one. Let’s go camping. When you camp, you create a “home away from home” in the fresh air. You don’t need a lot o f fency equipment to enjoy camping. What you need is simply a tent large enough for your family. Practice setting up the tent at home to make sure you are familiar with the process before you go camping.Once you find a good site, it’s time to set up tent. Your first job is to set up your tent. Remove all sticks and rocks from the area. Spread a tarp (防水帆布) over the area where your tent will sit. Set up the tent and be sure to stake it down firmly, even if the weather is mild. Otherwise, strong wind can blow your tent away.Next, you’ll need some firewood for a campfire. If gathering wood is illegal at your campground, you must buy it at the camp store. If gathering dead wood is permitted, go on a firewood-hunting journey and bring in a good supply of wood for your campsite, pile the wood safely away from the campfire ring and where no one will trip over the wood or hurt his or her legs on sharp branches.Being a responsible camper requires that you follow the rules of the campground. Do not burn food or plastic in your campfire. Make sure that you leave your campsite in good condition for the next campers. Just before leaving the site, make a final check to be certain that your campfire is completely out. Pour water on the ashes just to be safe! 26. As is suggested by the aurhor, you should practice setting up your tent ______.A. before the weather turns badB. before your first camping upC. after having selected your campsiteD. once you have decided where to go27. What is the first thing you should do after choosing a campsiteA. Gather firewood.B. Spread a tarp on the ground.C. Set up the tent.D. Remove sticks and rocks from the tent area.28. You can gather firewood only ______.A. after you are sure that it is permittedB. after you are certain that no one will get hurtC. if there is no camp store nearbyD. if firewood is out of stock in a camp store29. The last thing you should do before leaving your campsite is ______.A. burn all the trashB. clean the campsiteC. pour water on the ashesD. collect all the rubbish30. The passage is mainly about ______.A. safety measures a camper should takeB. problems you may face as a camperC. what you need to know about campingD. what you need to bring along for campingPassage FourEvery country has secret services to help protect it against serious threats from terrorists, major criminals or even from other countries. People who threaten to harm a country always plot in secret, so the intelligence agencies have to work in secret to find out what is being planned before it happens, so that it can be prevented. They do that in many different ways – by secretly listening to their targets talking on the phone, by planting microphongs to overhear meetings, by watching the targets as they move from place to place and by recruiting some of the targets to act as double agents to report on what is going on.For most of my career I worked in one of the UK’s three intelligence services, MIS, the domestic security service. I first joined in the 1970s, in the middle of the Gold War, when the war was divided into two armedcamps, the Soviet Union(苏联) and its allies on the one side and WesternEurope, America and their allies on the other. The Gold War never became a fighting war. It was an intelligence war, with intelligence officers from both sides trying to find out what the other side was doing, what kind of weapons they had, when and if they might start a war and what their plans were. Both sides were secretly working in each other’s countries.Nowadays one of the biggest threats to the world, comes from terrorists. Intelligence officers from many differenct countries are working together to find out who they are., where they are and what they are planning. Today’s MIS officers get their intelligence in much the sa me way as we did during the Gold War, but their task is even more difficult and urgent because most terrorists want to kill people. Many terrorist attacks that are planned and prepared never happen, and we never know anything about them because the intelligence services find them out and prevent them.31. What is the first paragraph mainly aboutA. The tasks of intelligence agencies.B. The contributions of intelligence agencies.C. The equipment used by intelligence agents.D. The recruitment of intelligence agents.32. The biggest security threats for Britain in the 1970s were from ______.A. international terroristsB. the Soviet Union and its alliesC. major criminals within the countryD. agents working for both camps33. What is true about the Gold WarA. Both camps were planning to start a war.B. It was a war fought with advanced weapons.C. No fierce clash broke out during the period.D. 20XX年成人高考英语 攻克阅读从语法入手-成人高考.doc

A few centuries ago, people looked at the birds and wondered what it would be like to fly like them. The operator held on to a handle with straps strapped to his waist. This was the first known design for a parachute (降落伞).Even the great inventor Leonardo da Vinci sketched a type of parachute. His parachute design was in the shape of pyramid (金字塔). Other inventors also sketched their own designs for a parachute. Unfortunately, these were only designs on paper and no one tested them.A Croatian inventor named Fausto Veranzio looked at Leonardo da Vinci' s parachute design and replaced the pyramid shape with one that looked like a sail from a ship. When Veranzio was 65 years old, he fell ill. Thinking he would not live longer, he decided to try out his parachute invention. He built his parachute using wood and cloth. Straping his invention to his waist, he jumped off the tall bell tower in his city. Helanded safely! He was supposedly the first man to successfully use a parachute. However, some people thought this story was not true. If that was the case, then the first person to successfully use a parachute would go to a Frenchman named Louis-Sebastien Lenormand in 1783.1.The first known parachute was designed by______.(B)A. FrenchmenB. ItaliansC. CroatiansD.

One hundred and thirteen million Americans have at least one bank-issued credit card. They give their owners automatic credit in stores, restaurants, and hotels, at home, across the country, and even abroad, and they make many banking services available as well. More and more of these credit cards can be read automatically, making it possible to withdraw or deposit money in scattered locations, whether or not the local branch bank is open. For many of us the "cashless society" is not on the horizon-it's already here. While computers offer these conveniences to consumers, they have many advantages for sellers too. Electronic cash registers can do much more than simply ring up sales. They can keep a wide range of records, including who sold what, when, and to whom. This information allows businessmen to keep track of their list of goods by showing which items are being sold and how fast they are moving. Decisions to reorder or return goods to suppliers can then be made. At the same time these computers record which hours are busiest and which employees are the most efficient, allowing personnel and staffing assignments to be made accordingly. And they also identify preferred customers for promotional campaigns. Computers are relied on by manufacturers for similar reasons. Computer-analyzed marketing reports can help to decide which products to emphasize now, which to develop for the future, and which to drop. Computers keep track of goods in stock, of raw materials on hand, and even of the production process itself.Numerous other commercial enterprises, from theaters to magazine publishers, from gas and electric utilities to milk processors, bring better and more efficient services to consumers through the use of computers.1. According to the passage, the credit card enables its owner to______.A. withdraw as much money from the bank as he wishesB. obtain more convenient services than other people doC. enjoy greater trust from the storekeeperD. cash money wherever he wishes toBest Answer: B详解:选B)。
