Sumatra is an island in western Indonesia. It is the largest island entirely in Indonesia. The island includes more than 10 National Parks, three of which are listed as the Tropical Rainforest Heritage of Sumatra World Heritage.
Java
Java is the 13th largest island in the world and the fifth largest island in Indonesia. Java is almost entirely of volcanic origin, and contains numerous volcanoes, 20 of which have been active in recent historical times.
Climate
The dry season generally prevails from May to September. The wet season generally extends from December to March. Indonesia has a high relative humidity and a high annual mean air temperature around 33°C.
National emblem
The main part is the Garuda (金翅鸟) with a shield on its chest and a scroll gripped by its leg. The shield‘s five emblems represent the five principles of Indonesia’s national philosophy.

Java
With a population of 136 million, Java is the world's most populous island, and one of the most densely populated regions in the world. It is home to 60% of Indonesia's population.
Population
Natives of the island and immigrants from Asia were first called Indonesian following the independence of Indonesia in 1945. Most people in Indonesia are Muslim, but three other religions, including Christianity, Buddhism and Hinduism also have many followers in Indonesia.
Language
Bahasa Indonesia is the national language, which is akin to Malay. In all tourist destination areas, English is the number one foreign language used in speaking and working. Dutch is still spoken and understood in the large cities. French is increasing in popularity at the better hotels and restaurants.

Geography
The Republic of Indonesia is the largest archipelago country in the world, comprised of 17,508 island, of which only about 6,000 are inhabited. Indonesia is situated along the line where two of the world’s greatest volcanic ranges meet; that is, the Mediterranean from the west and Circum Pacific from the northeast.
Sumatra
Sumatra boasts a huge range of plant and animal species but has lost almost 50% of its tropical rainforest in the last 35 years and many species are critically endangered such as Sumatran Tiger, Sumatran Rhino, and Sumatran Orangutan.

Jakartais the capital and largest city of Indonesia located on the northwest coast of Java. Jakarta is the country's economic, cultural and political centre.
The five principles :
The star symbolizes belief in one supreme God; The chain represents successive human generations and humanity ; The banyan tree represents Indonesian unity; The bull represents democracyby deliberation and consensus among representatives. The rice and cotton represent sustenance and livelihood .

Population
The Republic of Indonesia, the world's fourth most populous nation, has 240 million people living on nearly one thousand permanently settled islands. Indonesia has over 100 ethnic groups, among whom 47% are Javanese, 14% Sudanese, and 7.5% Madurese.
Economy
It is a vast, fertile country endowed with rich and diversified natural resources, such as agricultures, plantations, fisheries, mining, oil and gas. About 60 percent of the population are farmers who produce subsistence and market-oriented crops such as rice, vegetables, fruit, tea, coffee, sugar, and spices. Both freshwater and ocean fishing are important to village and national economies.
