So the theme ―seize the day (carpe diem)‖ is quite understandable. The story in the movie happened in 1959. The McCarthyism which was popular in the 1950s was coming to an end, and the individualism was drawing near in the 1960s. Therefore the shooting time and the time of the story had similar social needs: a spiritual release.
