Do you have a...... ?" Game!

Target Grade:3-6

Target English: "Do you have a.....?",

"No I'm sorry", "Yes here you are"+ any set of vocab

Preparation: Mini Cards for each piece of vocab.

Preparation

1. Review the vocab (e.g. "a hamster", "a goldfish""a plane, a rocket" or "a book, a

pencil")

2. Introduce "Do you have a ............?" (e.g. Do you have a hamster?). During the song we use the question "Do you have any pets?" but it's really simply for the kids to pick up "Do you have a ...?" when talking about one specific thing. Just remember to cut out all the grammar explanation and they'll be fine!

3. Introduce the answers "Yes, here you are" and "No, I'm sorry".

The Game !!

1. Split the class into about 6 or 8 groups (using the each row of desks as one group is

good).

2. Assign each group a different word (e.g. hamster, horse, etc.. ), this is the thing that

that group wants to collect.

3. Give each child a copy of the mini-picture cards , if you hand them out as one sheet,

the kids should cut them into individual cards.

4. The students then go round asking as many people as possible "Do you have ......."

(for example the "turtle" team asks "Do you have a turtle?"

5. If the student still has the object he/she says "Yes, here you are!" and gives it to the

person who asked.

6. If they have already given it away then they say "No, I'm sorry" and walk off.

7. The group that is the first to collect as many of their item as there are students in the class (e.g. 30 items for a class of 30 kids), sits down and they are the winner!! This game works really well, but make sure the kids know all the words well! E.g. start off with the the song and picture cards then try using the criss cross or last person

standing game to practise it.

At the end of the game, try counting how many things they have collected out loud

with all the members of the class together.

The "What did you say?" Game

Target English: Review any questions plus "Sorry, "Again please, "What did you

say?"etc.

The beauty of this game is that at first it seems really easy, but soon turns out to be really chaotic and great for getting the kids used to important phrases to ask when they haven't understood something! It's a big review game so you have to make sure the kids know a fair few questions beforehand, if they have gotten through Genki

English level one they should be OK.

So introduce the new phrases and then...

1.Put the students into 2 groups. The best way to do this is to use the Mingle Game

combined with the group game, i.e. you do the Mingle chant and then shout out a number that is half the number of kids in the class, and the kids quickly get into

groups of this number.

2. In secret gave each team 5 different questions to ask, e.g. "What's your name?",

"How are you?", "What's your favourite colour?", "What's your favourite animal?", "What's your favourite food?", etc. Make sure they know how to answer. It maybe an idea to let the kids choose a set of questions beforehand as a review, and then you choose which ones to give to each team. If they can't read the question, draw

pictures for them!

3. Each team faces each other in 2 lines.

4. The students ask the student who is opposite them the questions and they either

write down the answers or draw pictures. Of course, everyone is doing this

simultaneously.
