The landscape changed to wide open spaces with red soil and barely any trees. We stayed a few nights at an Outback station, which is kind of like a ranch. We got to go on a wild safari drive and see mobs of kangaroos hopping around everywhere! Up close, the 'roos were huge and powerful animals. We also saw dingoes, emus, lizards, and snakes in the Outback.One day, we took a scenic flight over the Outback in a tiny airplane. From the air, you could see how vast and empty the landscape was. Just miles and miles of flat, dry, red terrain. The pilot pointed out some interesting rock formations too. My favorite was a group of huge boulders called the Olgas. They were this amazing orange/red color and had funny shapes. Apparently they're sacred in the Aboriginal culture.Our last stop was the Great Barrier Reef off the northeast coast. This is one of the seven natural wonders of the world - the largest reef system on the planet! We took a boat out and went snorkeling. As soon as I stuck my face in the water, I was blown away by the marine life. There were thousands of species of fish in every color you can imagine, plus coral, turtles, sharks, rays, you name it. The diversity under the surface was mind-blowing.The reef itself was incredibly vibrant too. There were areas of neon pinks, purples, greens, and blues from all the different coral. The rocks and layers looked so cool.After a couple days enjoying the Grand Canyon, we drove over to San Diego, California to visit some relatives. My cousin Steven lives there with his parents. They have a pool in their backyard and we went swimming pretty much every day. Steven taught me some awesome jump shots for basketball too.One day, Steven's dad took us all to the most amazing beach called La Jolla Cove. We saw so many sea lions just chillin' on therocks! We also went snorkeling and I saw a ton of bright orange Garibaldi fish. On the way home, we stopped at this cool burger place called Hodad's and ate the biggest burgers I've ever seen.The next big stop on our road trip was Las Vegas! It was pretty weird seeing all the big flashy casinos and hotels along the strip. We stayed at New York New York, which is this casino that looks like the New York City skyline. We saw an awesome magic show one night and went to a bunch of crazy restaurants too.My favorite part of Vegas was when we went on the Canyon Coaster at Circus Circus. It's this intense roller coaster that goes through loops and spirals and even goes outside the building! My brother got a little scared but I loved all the loops and corkscrews. We also spent a whole day at a water park just doing water slides and lazy rivers.After Vegas, we drove through the deserts of Utah to get to our last stop - Colorado! We spent a few days just hanging around and going on little hikes near Denver. But the coolest thing we did was go whitewater rafting on the Arkansas River. Our guide's name was Megan and she was super nice.We had to wear these big bulky lifejackets and rubber boots. Then we hopped on this big inflatable raft and shoved off into the rushing river. The rapids were no joke! We got completelydrenched from the splashing waves. At one point our raft got stuck sideways on a big rock and we had to paddle super hard to get free. It was equal parts terrifying and exhilarating.After our awesome rafting adventure, it was finally time to head back home to Phoenix. We were all pretty tired after being on the road for almost 3 weeks, but we made so many incredible memories. We all got in huge trouble and had to stay late to clean up the horrible mess. But it was still kind of fun while it lasted.Of course, there were also the usual school events like pep rallies, dances, and field trips. Wild!One of the first reading passages was about a guy named John Muir. He was this really cool explorer and naturalist guy who helped establish national parks way back in the 1800s. John Muir loved being outdoors and wrote all about his adventures hiking through places like Yosemite Valley. He talked about the incredible trees, flowers, animals, and landscapes he saw. It made me want to pack up and go camping right away!We read another passage about the Amazon rainforest. That place is absolutely massive - it covers over 2 million square miles across South America! Can you even imagine how big that is? The Amazon has like one in ten of the world's species living there, including adorable little tree frog guys. But sadly, large portions of the rainforest are being cut down each year for farming,mining, and logging. It's so important to protect incredible places like the Amazon.Then we learned about someareally adventurous explorers like Sir Edmund Hillary, who was the first person to climb all the way up Mount Everest back in 1953. That's the tallest mountain in the whole world at over 29,000 feet high! The air is so thin up there that it's hard to breathe. Hillary and his team had to use oxygen tanks and climb through blizzard conditions to make it to the top. I don't know if I'm brave enough to attempt something that extreme!For the writing portion, we had to pen a descriptive paragraph imagining we were exploring a particular natural setting like a forest, desert, canyon, etc. I chose to write about exploring an alpine meadow high up in some mountains. I described the colorful wildflowers, babbling streams, fresh piney smells, and watching some cute furry marmots scampering across the rocks. Visualizing that peaceful scene made me feel so relaxed.Finally, we learned about some urgent environmental issues affecting nature. Things like pollution, overuse of resources, illegal poaching of animals, and climate change. It was sad to learn how many plants and animals are going extinct andhabitats are being destroyed by human activities. We all need to do our part to reduce our footprint and protect what's left of the great outdoors!Overall, I'd say Unit 4 was one of my favorites so far. I mean, who doesn't love learning about amazing natural wonders and going on adventures, even if just using our imaginations? 说起中国的戏曲，可真的是历史悠久了，而且经过五千年的沉淀，中国戏曲的种类
繁多，全国许多的地方都有自己的剧种，而且都具有自己独特的地方文化风情。
所以说，
我们中国，可谓是真正的戏曲大舞台。
中国现有的戏曲剧种大约是三百六十多种，传统剧目数更是惊人：可以以万数计!我
们知道许多剧种很多剧种都是有其独特的演变过程，我们知道的比较有名的剧种：如京剧，越剧，吉剧等等。
而且中国的戏曲与西方的戏剧不同，它有自以独特的审美观念与表演体系，现在就为大家介绍一些吧：“生”是除大花脸与丑角以外的男性角色统称，里外又分“老生，小生，武生，娃娃生。
“旦”是女性角色统称，分：正旦，花旦，闺门旦，武旦，老旦，彩旦。
“净”是指扮演性格，品质或相貌上有些特异的男性人物;“净”又分以唱
工及以工为主的花脸;“丑”扮演喜剧角色。
怎样?看了之后是不是觉得有趣呢?其实还有很多呢!我国戏曲主要戏曲有：昆剧，京剧，黄梅戏这三派。
二京剧又分：梅派，程派，苟派，尚派，这四派。
而且我们在电视上
可以看到这京剧人物脸谱是十分微妙的，在演员的脸上涂上某种颜色以象征此人的性格与
品质。
角色和命运是京剧一大特点，它的作用是帮助观众理解剧情。
简单讲，红脸含有褒义，代表英勇;黑脸为中性，代表猛智;蓝脸和绿脸也为中性，代表草莽英雄;黄脸和白脸
含贬义，代表凶诈;金脸和银脸是神秘，代表神妖。
而脸谱起源于上古时期的宗教和舞蹈
面具，今天许多地方戏中都保存了这一点。
看了上面的介绍，是不是觉得!戏曲是文化瑰宝呢?而我们，有幸的生活在这个戏曲的
大舞台上，享受它独特的美丽。
说起戏曲，我们都会想到里面的角色：生，旦，净，丑。
不过，这还是我小学语文课时，老师让我们记下的，还别说，知道关于戏曲的就只有这么多了。
因为，我对中国的戏剧很不敢兴趣。
在平时看电视时，一看到爷爷奶奶在看戏剧，就
觉得十分讨厌，还与爷爷奶奶在频道上争来争去。
唯一的一次转折还是在这次语文课上，是“戏曲大舞台”这一综合实践课上，老师先
放了一段段“讨人喜欢”的戏曲，这声音可好听呢!所以，我认为：反正都是学，还不如
好好借着这次机会研究一下，何况它还这么好听呢!
上完这节课，我颇有感触：难怪戏曲能从封建社会一直流传了几百年至今!因为它是
古代劳动人民在闲娱时间创作出来的，内容多为人民心中对美好生活的向往，比如《天仙配》中的一句：“你耕田来我织布，你挑水来我浇园。
你好好比鸳鸯鸟，比翼
双飞在人间。
”表达了古代劳动人民心中对生活那淳朴的向往，因为戏曲“顺”民意，“得”民心，所以才能流传甚广，所以才能格外动听。
可惜现在的青年只痴迷于流行音乐，一点也不重视这美妙的非物质文化遗产中最为璀璨的明星--戏曲!
此刻，我已经深深喜欢上戏曲这门艺术了，也更加理解戏曲为什么能成为中华民族的
象征了。
说到中国，谁都会想到我们中国的戏曲，戏剧就是其中一颗璀璨夺目的明珠。
千百年来，它以其独特的艺术魅力和博大精深的文化内涵影响着中国，影响着世界，让中华文化
流传到世界各地。
受奶奶的影响，从小我就对戏曲耳濡目染，产生了浓厚的兴趣。
虽然，那时的我并不
能理解戏曲丰富内涵，却从心里深深地喜欢上了这门中国传统艺术。
记得小时候，我经常
跟着奶奶走街串巷去看戏，哪里有戏台，哪里就有我和奶奶的身影。
年幼的我还喜欢缠着
奶奶教我唱戏，每当看到电视上的那些戏曲名家的精彩表演时，我都会站在电视前有模有
样地扭两下，再哼上两句“刘大哥讲话，理太偏……”
随着年龄的增长，我对戏曲的认识在逐步的加深。
雍容华贵的京剧，典雅精致的昆曲，高亢悲凉的梆子戏，轻柔婉转的越调……都各具特色。
女扮男装、替父从军的花木兰;忠
心耿耿、誓死卫国的杨门虎将;不畏强暴、誓死不屈的刘胡兰……这些极具艺术特色的鲜
明的人物形象，给了我极大的感情震撼。
每个艺术形象的塑造都凝聚了艺术家们的心血与
汗水，都是艺术的结晶。
直到现在，很多地方都还会邀请戏班子来表演，正是由于戏曲琼浆的滋养，才使的这
块厚土哺育了一代又一代的纯朴农民。
而戏曲的精髓也将不断的流传下去。
