My friends and I spend hours playing outside - having water balloon fights, going to the pool or beach, playing basketball and other sports, riding our bikes around the neighborhood, and just generally running around and being crazy kids. In the winter it's hard to do much besides watch TV and play video games because it's just too cold and snowy to be outside for very long.Then there are the amazing summer foods and snacks that you can really only get during this time of year. Fruits like watermelon, strawberries, peaches, and cherries are so juicy, sweet, and refreshing on a hot day. We grill out for dinner all the time, and there's nothing better than a hamburger or hot dog fresh off the barbecue. And no summer is complete without a trip to the ice cream truck for a delicious frozen treat like a bomb pop or cookie sandwich! I definitely have to eat a few extra servings of vegetables in the summer to make up for all the junk food.Another thing I look forward to every summer is the 4th of July holiday. My whole family gets together for a huge cookout with all my aunts, uncles, cousins and grandparents. We play lawn games like cornhole for hours and just hang out and catch up. Then after it gets dark, we get to watch the most incrediblefireworks show! The colorful explosions lighting up the night sky are so beautiful and exciting. I love curling up on a blanket with some hot chocolate and s'mores while ooh-ing and ahh-ing at all the different fireworks.But those few negatives are definitely outweighed by all the awesome things about summer that I love. From the warm sunny weather to the endless time to play outside with my friends, all the way to the special food, activities and celebrations we get to enjoy, summer is simply the best season of all in my book. Every year my family goes camping in the mountains. We hike, catch fish in the streams, make s'mores over the campfire, and sleep out under the stars. It's such an adventure! I love going to concerts and watching fireworks shows too.Summer also means more freedom and less rules. I don't have a super strict bedtime so I can stay up late. I have so much more free time to just be a kid and do what I want. The fireworks at the end of the night are always incredible!Then there are the summer sports and activities to enjoy. I play softball on a youth league team during the summer which is really fun. We have practices and games twice a week. It's a great way to stay active and work as a team. I've made some good friends through softball too.There are also tons of camps, classes, and other activities for kids in the summer. This year I'm going to a coding camp for a few weeks and taking art classes at the community center. My friends are doing things like soccer camp, dance intensives, and academic camps too. It's a nice way to learn new skills over the break.Finally, one of the best parts of summer is going on family vacations! Each year my family takes a road trip or flight somewhere fun. Two years ago we went to California and saw the beaches, Hollywood, Disneyland, and more. Last year we did a camping road trip stopping at national parks in Utah, Colorado, and Wyoming. This summer we're headed to Florida to do Disney World, Universal Studios, and the beaches! I always have a blast on our summer trips.But summertime is still undoubtedly my favorite season of the year. From the amazing weather to the fun activities and no school, summer is simply the best!
