Unidentified Flying Objects

There are many explanations for why UFOs visit the Earth. The most popular one is that they may contain visitors from other planets. To fly such an aircraft, their builders must develop different forms of aviation, because they seem to fly much faster than normal aircraft. The UFOs, it is believed, must contain scientists from other planets who are studying life on earth. It is even believed that several such aircraft may have landed on earth and the space visitors may be living amongst us.

But there are also less fantastic explanations available. Although some sightings of UFOs are difficult to explain, most can be explained quite easily. In many cases the observers might have made a mistake. They might have seen a weather balloon or an aircraft. Or the light they saw in the sky might have been light from the ground, reflected on to the clouds.

However, the exact cause of many sightings still remains a mystery.

TEXT A

TEXT C

TEXT D

TEXT E

While he was in debtor?s prison, Mary Katherine Goddard?s name appeared in the newspaper?s masthead (报头) for the first time.

We used to appreciate those who like to help strangers. But nowadays people tend to be very cautious of strangers, because they are afraid that helping others can sometimes bring them trouble. In my opinion, we should try our best to help others in a reasonable way.

We should try to help others, no matter they are strangers or not. First, helping others is a virtue, and it will make our society more harmonious. Just imagine what a terrible world it would be if everyone was coldhearted! Second, to some extent, helping others is helping oneself. We may come across some trouble and need others' help some day. If everyone turns a blind eye to our trouble and turns a deaf ear to our appeal for aid just because we are strangers to them, what shall we do at that time? Therefore, we should be glad to help others.

However, helping others may sometimes bring us trouble or even put us in danger. So when we are helping others, we should also protect ourselves and offer our help in an appropriate way. For example, to help someone who was robbed, calling the police is a much wiser way than chasing the robbers alone.

Y et while a higher income, better standard of living, and technological literacy might be the most obvious reasons for attending college, they are not necessarily the best, the most reliable, or the most enduring. There are good non-financial reasons to go to college. First and foremost, college can be a great place for the students to learn about themselves and about society. College is a place where students get a safe chance to mature even as they pursue a degree and a potential career and where visionary ideas go to be challenged, grow, and mature. Next, students may develop self-independence in college, which is essential to their future development. Being away from their own home and living in a dormitory, students often get their first chance at learning to be on their own. In addition, college offers other learning opportunities, too. Much of what students gain in college may come from learning outside the classroom and from participating in campus organizations. All in all, obtaining a college degree isn't just about making more money . As for society, no one that values freedom can afford to underestimate, even for an instant, the value of higher education.
