The British Museum is a must see. It's free, it's amazing. Containing such priceless antiquities as the Rosetta Stone , the Elgin Marbles, an original copy of the Magna Carta, the Lindisfarne Gospels and the Sutton Hoo treasure, the British Museum is considered to be in the first rank among the world's great museums.

HOURS: Mon. - Sat.10am - 5pm Sun. 2:30pm - 6pm.

Housing one of the world's finest art collections, the National Gallery contains well over 2,000 paintings by the greatest artists and sets the standard for their proper presentation; they are well lit, well labelled and have adequate viewing space. Occupying all of the north side of Trafalgar Square, the National Gallery affords excellent views of the surrounding areas.

Originally part of Henry VIII's hunting grounds, this triangular piece of land gets its name from the green color of the grass and trees which predominate, there. Adjacent to the Buckingham Palace grounds, Green Park is an especially pleasant place for a quiet walk, with its central tree-lined "avenue" leading from the Queen Victoria Memorial through the park to Piccadilly, on the north side.

The London Aquarium, located in County Hall, is one of Europe's newest, largest and most magnificent displays of global aquatic life, featuring

thousands of living specimens from the world's rivers, oceans and seas; all in over two million litres of water! Dedicated by George V and Queen Mary in 1922, County Hall is located on the banks of the Thames at the east end of Westminster Bridge and served as the headquarters of the London County Council. The building was sold in 1986 and now serves as a center for recreation and leisure activities

The roof garret of the church of St Thomas' contains Britain's oldest operating theatre, dating from 1821. It was part of St Thomas' Hospital before it moved sites in June 1862. The timber garret was used by the apothecary for the storage and curing of herbs to be used in medicine. The theatre witnessed the advent of anesthesia in 1846 and closed three years before Lister began his experiments in antiseptic surgery and provides an evocative reminder of the incredible medical advances over the last 150 years.
