Julien’s ambition determined his mentality that lo ve is the stepping stone of the career in his life, and thus caused his wrong view on love. Julien deeply desire to enter the high society and want to obtain the approbation and respect from the high society. His ambition caused him screwing Mlle Mathilde, and also caused him shooting Mme de Renal. Therefore, Julien’s ambition is one of an important reason to Julien’s loves trend to tragedy.

As a fighter of the lower social class, Julien saw through all the injustice of the social system for the poor when he choose die. He is unable to change the injustice and very disappointed to the society at the time. As the members of high society, Mme de Renal and Mlle Mathilde are unable to understand thoroughly Julien’s sorrow for his humble background, and unable to change the social system and custom, thus they are unable to save Julien’s wounded spirit and change his mind to die.

答案：红与黑以爱情为主线，描述的悲剧爱情令人深思。虽然爱情和事业对于于连不是矛盾和对立的，但是于连把爱情当做了事业筹码，这已经预示着于连的爱情以注定悲剧结局。所以我们要形成正确的爱情观，把爱情和事业分开来。另外，每个人都是社会中的一员，我们的一切都受到社会的潜在制约，所以在我们无力改变社会现状的时候，我们的爱情该顺应社会的主流。

With the mainline of love, the tragic loves of the Red and the Black deserves deep thought to all the readers. While the love and career are not contradictory and opposite for Julien, he took the love as the chip of career, which prefigure the tragedy of Julien’s love stories. Therefore, we should fashion the correct concept of love, and take love and career in separate field. In addition to that, everyone is one member of society and suffers the potential social control. When we are powerless to resist it, we should choose the loving way which conforms to the trend of times.

The title of my paper is Analysis of Julien’s Tragic Love in the Red and the Black I choose this as my topic due to the following reasons. Firstly the Red and the Black is one of the representative works of realism literature in the nineteenth century. Secondly, it shows obviously that love is not only the eternal theme of human society, but also the microcosm of human society and polity.

I hope by analyzing Julien’s tragic love stories we can know the true nature of it. Through the reasons of Julien’s tragic love stories, we can get the better way to deal the relationship of love and society.

Next, it is an outline of my paper. In the main part of this paper, I divide it into five parts.
