1976–1980: The early years • April 1, 1976 : Apple was established by Steve Jobs, Steve Wozniak and Ronald Wayne, to sell the Apple I personal computer kit. • April 16, 1977: The Apple II was introduced. • May 1980: The company introduced the Apple III in and attempted to compete with IBM and Microsoft in the business and corporate computing market. 1981–1985: Lisa and Macintosh • 1978: Steve Jobs began working on the Apple Lisa . • 1982: He was pushed from the Lisa team due to infighting, and took over low-cost-computer project, the Macintosh. 1986–1993: Rise and fall • 1989-1991: the "first golden age" of the Macintosh • 1991-1993: fall in other products
Human Resources Management
To manage its products and marketing, Apple Computer had five product divisions responsible for the development, evaluation and manufacture of computer systems, software, and peripheraldevices (e.g., Macintosh). It also had four product support divisions which handled marketing, distribution and post-sale product support (e.g. North American Sales Division). In addition, there were a number of administrative departments in charge of overseeing Apple’s day-to-day corporate activities (e.g., the Finance Department). To recognize the best of its employees, Apple created the Apple Fellows program, awarding individuals who made extraordinary technical or leadership contributions to personal computing while at the company.
Architecture
On June 7, 2011, Steve Jobs gave a presentation to Cupertino City Council, detailing the architectural design of the new building and its environs. The new campus is planned to house up to 13,000 employees in one central four-storied circular building (with a caféfor 3,000 sitting people integrated) surrounded by extensive landscape (with parking mainly underground and the rest centralized in a parking structure). There will be additional buildings such as an auditorium, a fitness center and a dedicated generating plant as primary source of electricity (powered by natural gas and other more environmentally sound means).
