同样,我们还是从单词的学习来开始这个单元的知识点哦~第一个单词是gossip ,是一个名词,意思是“闲谈,说长道短“。

如: He spent the first hour talking gossip.他头一个小时都在闲聊。

Gossip 除了作为名词的用法之外,同时也可以作为动词使用,表示“传播流言,说长道短“。

如: Mary gossiped with Sophie.玛丽在和苏菲闲聊。

第二个是个词组,over there ,表示“在那边“的意思。

如:The café is just across the road over there.咖啡馆就在那面马路对面。

Over there 表示“在那边“的意思,这里所指代的”那边“通常是指可以看得见的地方,说话的人通常还会用手指向那个位置。

如: Ask that man over there.问一下那面的那个男人。

接下来的是几个形容词,tall ——高的,fat——胖的,thin——瘦的,short ——矮的。

这几个词是形容人的体型,我们在描述人的时候可以使用。

如:She is tall.她是个高个子。

He is fat.他是个胖子。

下面的这几个单词同样也是形容词,pretty ——漂亮的,beautiful——美丽的,handsome——英俊的。

这些形容词是用来形容人的外貌。

如: He is handsome.他很帅。

Pretty 和 beautiful 都可以表示“美丽的漂亮的”意思,但是两者的使用稍微有些区别:Beautiful 是漂亮悦人的,表示“美丽“的最普通用词,语气最强,不用于男性。

pretty 只表示 beautiful 含义的一部分。

如: She is a beautiful woman.她是一个漂亮的女人。

Pretty 是美丽可爱的,多用于小孩、妇女和较细小的东西,语气较弱。

如: He has a pretty girl.他有一个可爱的女儿。
