外研版⾼⼆英语必修5Module 2测试试题及答案(2) 第三部分:阅读理解(共20⼩题,每题2分,满分40分) 阅读下列短⽂,从每题所给的四个选项(A、B、C和D)中,选出最佳选项。
A You do not need every word to understand the meaning of what you read . In fact , too much emphasis (强调) on separate words both slows your speed and reduces your comprehension . First , any habit which slows down your silent reading to the speed at which you speak , or read aloud , is inefficient . If you point to each word as you read , or move your head , or form the words with your lips , you read poorly . Less obvious habits also hold back reading efficiency (效率) . One is “saying” each word silently by moving your tongue or throat ; another is “ hearing” each word as you read . These are habits which should have been outgrown long ago . The beginning reader is learning how letters can make words , how written words are pronounced , and how sentences are put together . Your reading purpose is quite different ; it is to understand meaning . It has been supposed that up to 75% of the words in English sentences are not really necessary for expressing the meaning . The secret of silent reading is to find out those key words and phrases which carry the thought , and to pay less attention to words which exist only for grammatical completeness . An efficient reader can grasp the meaning fr om a page at least twice as fast as he can read the page aloud . He takes in a whole phrase or thought unit at a time . If he “says” or “hears” words to himself , they are selected ones , said for emphasis . 56.This passage is mainly about .A.improving eye movementB.reading more widelyC.changing poor r eading habitsD.reading as fast as you can 57.Saying each word to yourself as you read .A.improves comprehensionB.increases reading speedC.gives too much emphasisD.reduces reading efficiency 58.Our reading purpose should be .A.to understand all the wordsB.to make fewer eye movementsC.to understand meaningD.to understand the grammatical structures 59.While reading , efficient readers usually .A.move their eyes quicklyB.take in whole phrases or thought unitsC.point at key wordsD.read only important points for speed B Despite their name , the Want Family don’t want much . They want enough money for a nice house and a holiday every year . But they don’t’ want to be millionaires . They want to do well at their jobs . But they don’t want to be the big boss . They do want to spend time improving their garden , visiting their families and taking their two kids , Nicolas and Leuan , to McDonald’s for lunch . But they don’t want to be famous . The Wants just want to be normal. That’s why they are famous . They have been selected as the most normal family in Britain . After a six-month search for the most ordinary family in Britain , the Wants were selected from hundreds of applicants . Jo hn wants a job in marketing for a food company , Claire has a part-time job renting out children’s play equipment . John doesn’t understand why they were chosen to represent ordinary English families . How are they normal ? That is not a bad question . Nearl y ev eryone does some of the things that the Wants do .But veryfew people do all of them . There have been great changes in the social structure of British life . It is becoming more common for people to have children when they are older than the Wants , and to have one child instead of two . A household with two children may be headed by a single parent , usually the mother . Or perhaps dad and mum are still together , but not married . Or maybe dad and mum are married . Dad goes out to work and mum stays at home and looks after the kids . They have traditional values —Every weekend the whole family goes to church . “What we have here is not an average family , but a traditional family,” says Cary Cooper , professor of philosophy at Lancaster University . “There is no such thing as a normal family anymore , in the way there was 20 or 30 years ago . Of course the Wants exist , but for what do we need to celebrate them ?”Perhaps because we think normal families are an endangered species . Examples of them have to be preserved (保护)to show future generations . 60.The Wants were selected as the most normal family in Britain because .A.they represent traditional Engish familiesB.they don’t want muchC.they don’t want to be famousD.they want to be normal 61.The following statements describe the great changes in British life EXCEPT that . A.people have kids later than 20 or 30 years ago B.some children are brought up by a single parent C.most families go to church every weekend D.it’s more common for families to have only one kid 62.We may infer from the passage that . A.most British families hold traditional values B.traditional families are becoming fewer and fewer C.future generations are expected to study traditional families D.traditional families no longer exist in Britain 63.What might be the most suitable title for this passage ?A.An Ordinary FamilyB.Families of Future GenerationsC.Celebration of a Family CompetitionD.A Normal But Special Family C To understand the marketing concept , it is only necessary to understand the difference between marketing and selling . Not too many years ago , most industries fixed their attention mainly on the production of goods , and then depended on “persuasive salesmanship” to move as much of these goods as possible and then change them into money . Marketing , on the other hand , focuses on the wants of customers . It begins with first understanding the preferences and demands of consumers and then producing goods that will satisfy them . This eye-on-the-consumer way is known as the marketing concept , which simply means that instead of trying to sell whatever is easiest to produce or buy for resale , the makers and dealers first try to find out what the consumer wants to buy . This concept does not mean that business is friendly or that consumer satisfaction is more important than profit in a company . Successful businessmen and producers , however , recognize that the surest route to profit is through understanding and satisfying customers . A striking example of the importance of satisfying customers presented itself in mid-1985 , when Coca-Cola changed the flavor of its drink . The non-acceptance of the new flavor by a large majority of the public brought about quick return of the Classic Coke , which was then marketed alongside the new . King Customer ruled ! 64.The marketing concept discussed in the passage is . A.the practice of turning goods into money B.the customer-centered way C.a way of making more goods D.a form of persuasive salesmanship 65.What mattered most for producers before the marketing concept was widely accepted ?A.Needs and understanding of the market .B.Production and profit of a company .C.Satisfaction of customers .D.Preference of businessmen . 66.According to the passage , the underlined word “move” (paragraph1) means .A.sellB.changeC.produceD.consume 67.What does the return of the Classic Coke best show ? A.Traditional goods have a stronger attraction to the majority of people . B.It takes time for a new product to be accepted by the public . C.Consumers with different tastes are often difficult to please . D.Products must be designed to suit the taste of the consumers . D To Lauder Exchange Program : Gaia Filicori was a student in my Humanities class for the 2002-2003 year . From the first week of classes it was obvious that Gaia was an excellent student and a very sociable young lady . She was always eager to join in class discussions . Gaia’s ability to communicate her own ideas is a skill that many of us work for a very long time to achieve . Gaia also has a deep curiosity about the world around her . The simple fact that she desires to spend a year in another country is proof enough . I have also seen her show this curiosity in class . She asked some of the most interesting and thoughtful questions of any of the students in her class . When others were content to accept a point , Gaia would see from a new angle that none of us had tried . As a student in Humanities , Gaia was requ ired to complete a group project . The project was to write a page for a Humanities textbook using text and multi-media . It was a challenging task and Gaia’s group was experiencing some difficulties . Yet , they had an easier time of it because they did not hesitate to come to me with their problems and try to work them out . As a result Gaia and her group had one of the more successful projects . The ability needed to recognize a problem and ask for help to solve it will be of great value if she is selected to be a Lauder Exchange student . Gala’s interest in the world around her will serve her well as a Lauder Exchange student . The ease with which she gets along with others and the ease with which she makes new friends will also help her as she tries to learn in a foreign setting . I have no doubts that Gaia would be a wonderful representative of the Lauder Program , Stuyvesant High School , and the United States . Perry Jones Social Studies Stuyvesant High School If you have any other questions please feel free to contact me . 212-312-4800;*************** 68.The main purpose of this letter is to A.express a student’s curiosity about the world B.introduce a student to an exchange program C.praise an excellent student D.encourage a student to join in an exchange program 69.According to the writer , Gaia seems to h ave all the following abilities EXCEPT . municating well with others B.thinking about things from different angles C.making new friends D.learning a language quickly in a foreign setting 70.Gaia shows her curiosity about the world by . A.hoping to spend a year in another country B.being content to accept a point C.getting along well with others D.serving well as a Lauder Exchange student 71.Perry Jones might be . A.Gala’s classmate B.a person in charge of Stuyvesant High School C.Gaia’s teacher D.a person in charge of Lauder Exchange Program E We sometimes think humans are the only species which can bear anxiety , but stress seems to affect the immune (免疫) system of lower animals too . In one experiment , for example , behavioral scientist Mark Lauden , at the University of Denver , gave mild electric shocks to 24 rats . Half of the animals could turn off the electricity by turning a wheel in their cage , while the other half could not . The rats in the two groups were paired so that each time one rat turned the wheel it protected both itself and its helpless partner from the shock. Lauden found that the immune reaction was below normal in the helpless rats but not in those that could turn off the electricity . What he has proved is that lack of control over an event , not the experience itself , is what weakens the immune system . Other researchers agree. Jay Weiss , a scientist at Duke University School of Medicine , has shown that animals who are allowed to control unpleasant stimuli (刺激)don’t develop sleep disorder or changes in brain chemistry of stressed rats . But if the animals are faced with situations they have no control over, they later behave passively when faced with experiences they can control . Such findings make researchers believe that the experience or feeling of helplessness is one of the most harmful factors in stress. One of the most surprising examples of how the mind can change the immune reaction was discovered by chance. In 1995 Robert Ader at the University of Rochester School of Medicine experimented on mice to avoid saccharin (糖精)by feeding them at the same time with the sweetener and a drug that while harming their immune systems caused stomach upsets . Connecting the saccharin with stomach pains , the mice quickly learned to avoid the sweetener . In order to get rid of this dislike for the sweetener, Ader fed the animals with saccharin again , this time without the drug , and was astonished to find that those mice that had received the highest amount of sweetener the first time died . He believed that saccharin alone weakened their immune systems enough to kill them. uden’s experiment showed that the immune system of those rats who could turn off the electricity .A.was strengthenedB.was not affectedC.was changedD.was weakened 73.According to the passage , the experience of helplessness causes rats to .A.try to control unpleasant stimuliB.turn off the electricityC.behave passively I controllable situationsD.become harmful 74.The reason why the mice in Ader’s experiment avoided saccharin was that .A.they disliked its tasteB.it affected their immune systemsC.it led to stomach painsD.they connected it with stomach pains 75.According to the passage , the most probable reason for the death of the mice in Ader’s experiment was that . A.they had been weakened by the saccharin B.the sweetener was poisonous to them C.the immune systems had been changed by the mind D. they had taken too much sweetener during the first experiment 第Ⅱ卷(⾮选择题,共35分) 第⼆节书⾯表达(满分25分) 假设你是李华,你所在的城市向市民征求交通⽅⾯的意见。

Upon arrival in the West, many Chinese find they have to firstly put on the brakes. Li Feng, raised in northern China and now based in England, agrees. "The only thing Chinese people would be shocked by in Britain is how long it takes to do things," he says. "For instance, in China if you want to open a bank account, you don't wait, you just do it at the counter." Out-of-hours and weekend work is standard in China, but in Britain, the weekend is for family and friends.Jack Chen, who left his homeland 12 years ago and is now a lawyer in Belgium says office politics are simpler in Europe, partly because the hierarchy (等级制度) is less rigid than in China, where the boss really is the boss and social class in the office is very obvious and important. As a result, staff in a Chinese company think very carefully about how to present their views and ideas. Employees in the West can share their opinions more freely. In China you should have the wisdom to say something in an appropriate way. But in Europe you can just say what you want. The newest Chinese arrivals have a very different view to previous generations, according to Sharon Jin, who moved to the US 20 years ago and is now an American citizen. "Almost 100% of the people of my generation who came to the United States want to get a green card," she says. "But today younger Chinese plan to work for 10 years here and then return to China to buy a house or look after their parents." While a record number of 523,700 students left China to study elsewhere in 2015, roughly 70%—80% of the students abroad have been returning in recent years because of the attractive job market at home, according to the Chinese Ministry of Education.1.What do many Chinese find surprising while in Britain?A.That they drive faster than the drivers in Britain.B.That they can open a bank account at any time.C.That working extra hours in Britain is very common.D.That working pace in Britain is less fast than at home.2.What can be inferred from Paragraph 2?A.Jack Chen has been a lawyer in Belgium for 12 years.B.Employees in the West show less respect for their boss.C.Chinese employees are cautious when presenting ideas.D.People in Europe express themselves in a modest way.3.Why do most students return to China according to the Chinese Ministry of Education?A.It's hard for them to get a green card.B.It's easy for them to buy a house at home.C.They will have to look after their parents.D.There are more job opportunities in China.4.How does the writer organize the text?A.By interviewing students abroad.B.By comparing the differences.C.By discussing some facts.D.By listing some figures.CFinding a suitable name for a baby is a big deal in China. When picking out a Chinese name, parents usually select two or three characters that have a carefully thought-out meaning, but when deciding on an English name, many of them struggle. That's where Jessup and her company, Special Name, come in. In the last few years, Jessup has helped name 677,900 Chinese babies, and earned over $400,000 in the process, more than enough to pay her college fees.Jessup came up with the idea for Special Name in 2015, after accompanying her father on a business trip to China. One of her dad's business partners, a Mrs Wang, asked her to help choose an English name for her daughter. Jessup felt honoured and quickly realised the importance of choosing a proper name in Chinese culture. The woman wanted people to be surprised by the things her daughter could achieve, so Jessup suggested the name "Eliza" after the character Eliza Doolittle from the playPygmalion. Mrs Wang seemed delighted with Jessup's choice. "If Mrs Wang needed this service, maybe other parents would as well," Jessup thought. After returning to UK, Jessup borrowed £1,500 from her parents and paid a web designer to build a website. She then spent her free time filling up a database with around 4,000 English names, associating them with five major characteristics, like honesty and optimism. In the beginning, Jessup offered the service for free to promote the website, but later, she started charging fees. The business is almost completely self-sufficient, requiring only a small team in China that manages the technical operation. She updates the database each month, allowing her to focus full-time on her studies.1.What's the purpose of Special Name?A.To help Chinese teens go abroad.B.To strengthen children's personalities.C.To pick an English name for a Chinese baby.D.To make a deal with Chinese parents.2.What inspired Jessup to set up Special Name?A.A suggestion from a business partner.B.Her interest in Chinese culture.C.A Chinese mother's request.D.A character from a play.3.What did Mrs Wang want her daughter to be in the future?A.A woman with achievements.B.A famous actress.C.A successful businesswoman.D.A western culture expert.4.What can we infer from the last paragraph about Special Name?A.It offers a free service.B.It's updated every day.C.It's operated completely by itself.D.It is easy to manage.DJennifer Mauer has needed more willpower than the typical college student to pursue her goal of earning a nursing degree. Beijing is currently believed to have fewer than 1,000 hutongs, most of which are near the Imperial Palace. Only 60 years ago, the number was 3,250. In the old districts of Dongcheng and Xicheng, which cover 62 square kilometers, some people will be asked to move out from hutong houses to avoid further damage to the ancient architecture."On average more than 100,000 people visit the Imperial Palace during the National Day holiday. The visitors put pressure on the protection of cultural relics," said Huang Yan, director of the Beijing Municipal Commission of Urban Planning, adding that hutongs should be protected from human damage. The government focused on how the protection plans were carried out and how the management of the cultural heritage worked. Wang Shaofeng, head of the Xicheng district government, said the area has 182 cultural relics, many of which were built asfar back as the Yuan Dynasty (1271—1368). The district of Xicheng has 1.28 million residents in its 57 square kilometers of land. "The most efficient way is to decrease the local population to reduce the possibility of causing harm to the heritage," Wang said."Each community has been required to report the status of its cultural heritage, especially hutongs, and any action that will damage the heritage will be punished," Wang said.No one knows for sure how many hutongs will be left in the coming 100 years.11.How many hutongs have disappeared in the past sixty years in Beijing?A.Less than 1,000.B.About 2,000.C.More than 3,000.D.Over 4,000.12.According to Huang Yan, what is the main cause of the damage to cultural relics?A.Visitors' activities.B.Residents'attitude.munities' behaviour.D.The government's policy.13.Which of the following is a useful way to protect hutongs?A.To attract more visitors.B.To punish anyone damaging them.C.To increase the local population.D.To forbid everyone getting close to them.14.What will happen to hutongs in the near future?A.Only time will tell.B.No one will remember them.C.The number will be growing.D.Hutongs will disappear completely.第二节(共5小题;每小题2.5分,满分12.5分)根据短文内容,从短文后的选项中选出能填入空白处的最佳选项。

In a bus you may look at a stranger, but not too long. And if he is sensing that he is being stared at, he may feel uncomfortable. The same is true in daily life. If you are looked at for more than necessary, you will look at yourself up and down, to see if there is anything wrong with you. If nothing goes wrong, you will feel angry towards others, staring at you that way. Eyes do speak, right?Looking too long at someone may seem to be rude and aggressive. But things are different when it comes to staring at the opposite sex. If a man glances at a woman for more than 10 seconds and refuses to move his gaze, his intentions are obvious, that is, he wishes to attract her attention, to make her understand that he is admiring her. However, the normal eye contact for two people engaged in a conversation is that the speaker will only look at the listener from time to time, in order to make sure thatthe listener does pay attention to what the former is speaking, and to tell him that he is attentive. If a speaker looks at you continuously when speaking, as if he tries to dominate you. you will feel uncomfortable. A poor liar usually exposes himself by looking too long at the victim, since he believes in the false idea that to look straight in the eye is a sign of honest communication. Quite the contrary. In fact, continuous eye contact is confined to lovers only, who will enjoy looking at each other tenderly for a long time, to show affection that words cannot express.Evidently, eye contact should be done according to the relationship between two people and the specific situation.1.Which of the following behaviour is proper according to the passage?A.To the opposite sex, stare at him or her.B.To a stranger, avoid looking at him or her.C.In a conversation, look at the listener all the time.D.Make eye contact depending on the relationship and different situations.2.If two persons exchange eye contact gently for a long time, what is probably their relationship?A. Boss and employee.B. Lovers.C. Teacher and student.D. Strangers.3.What's the best title of the passage?A. Don't Stare at OthersB. Body language Is ImportantC. Eyes Can SpeakD. Eye Contact Benefits YouCHow many different emotions do you think you can communicate to people with your face? Do you have the same facial expressions as the people from different cultures? Read this passage to find out what scientists have just discovered about this topic.New research suggests that there are only four basic facial expressions of emotion. However, how these expressions are interpreted(解释) might depend on where you are from. Research by scientists from the Institute of Neuroscience and Psychology at the University of Glasgow has challenged the traditional view of how the face expresses emotions. It was widely believed that six basic emotions (happiness, sadness, fear, anger, surprise and disgust) were expressed and recognized across different cultures. However, the University of Glasgow's work now suggests that the human face only has four basic expressions of emotion. This is because some pairs of emotions are impossible to distinguish(辨别). Fear and surprise, for example, both share wide open eyes. The facial expressions for anger and disgust also look the same. So if our faces are only able to express four basic emotions, how do we communicate a much more complex(复杂的) kind of feeling? The study found that the way expressions are interpreted is different in different cultures. However, while looking at how people from the East and West look at different parts of the face during facial expression recognition, scientists found that although there are some common features across cultures, the six basic facial expressions of emotion are not recognized universally. What interests people about the cross-cultural aspect of the research? This work leads to understanding which emotions we share and appreciating our differences.1.What did the University of Glasgow find?A.Six basic emotions greatly influence our character.B.Six basic emotions can be recognized.C.It is easy to tell from the basic facial expressions.D.Some of the six facial expressions are similar.2.Which group may be the four basic facial expressions of emotion?A.Sadness, fear, anger and surprise.B.Anger, sadness, fear and happiness.C.Happiness, surprise, sadness and fear.D.Disgust, happiness, anger and sadness.3.What can we learn according to Paragraph 3?A.Basic facial expressions are not universal.B.Facial expressions can't show complex feelings.C.Western people have more kinds of facial expressions.D.The way to express emotions changes with time.4.Which is the proper title for the passage?A.What Does Your Face Say?B.How Do We Communicate?C.What Are the Six Basic Emotions?D.Do We Have the Same Expressions?DI went to a New York Mets fantasy camp in 1995, an incredible experience. I was fortunate to be on a team whose pitching coach was Mel Stottlemyre, the formerYankees star pitcher (投手)and Mets and Yankees coach. I was upset when Mel died of cancer on Jan. 13, 2018, at the age of 77.He was warm, friendly and treated us as if we were major leagues. He asked me whether I would like to pitch and showed me how to throw a "two-seamer", a fastball that tends to sink, as well as a straight four-seam fastball. I knew that pitching was not for me. At age 45, my experience in organizing baseball was limited to a couple of years in Little League in the Bronx, and softball games as an adult. Mel eventually left the Mets and became the pitching coach for the Yankees. I followed his career and knew about his diagnosis (诊断)of multiple myeloma, a blood cancer, in April 2000, and a stem cell transplant. In the summer of 2002, I was diagnosed as multiple myeloma and was told that I needed a stem-cell transplant by the same group of doctors at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center that had treated Mel.This shocked me, and frankly, I became quite depressed. I vowed that somehow I would try to speak to Mel. One day, my phone rang. Mel was calling from the Yankees' locker room. I asked him to tell me everything about his treatment. He spent 30 minutes generously explaining all the details. I hung on every word. He told me how well he was feeling and ended the conversation by giving me his home phone number! "I feel great, and I'm not retiring," he told me.This incredible experience lifted my spirits. Every time I saw Mel during games on TV as I awaited my transplant, I repeated to myself, "Look at Mel. If he can do it, so can I."1.Why did the author say he was lucky in Paragraph 1?A.He joined a famous team.B.He met an unusual coach.C.He was successfully cured.D.He was chosen as a pitcher.2.What do we know about the author?A.He was not skilled in pitching.B.He was a good baseball player.C.He called Mel for his treatment.D.He forgot what Mel had told him.3.How old was Mel when he was diagnosed as multiple myeloma?A.23.B.45.C.59.D.61.4.What would be a suitable title for the text?A.The Skills Taught by My Former CoachB.The Transplant Given by the Same DoctorsC.My Baseball Team Helping Me OutD.My Coach's Spirits Shining on Me第二节(共5小题;每小题2.5分,满分12.5分)根据短文内容,从短文后的选项中选出能填入空白处的最佳选项。

AYour body, which has close relations with the food you eat, is the most important thing you own. So it needs proper treatment and proper nourishment(营养)• The old saying “An apple a day keeps the doctors away;' is not as silly as some people think. The body needs fruits and vegetables because they contain vitamin C.Many people take extra vitamins in pill form (片齐!J), believing that this will make them healthy. AFrom early times, man has been interested in art. People have often worked together to collect and save the world’s art treasures. Fine art treasures from many countries are kept in an art museum called the Louvre in Paris, France. The works of art have been collected by the people of France over many centuries. It is one of the biggest art museums in the world. The Louvre has not always been a museum. The first building was a fort(堡垒). In 1190, it was the king’s castle with high walls and a round tower. It had a moat(护城河)to keep out the enemies. Over the years, the number of buildings around the castle grew. By 1350, the castle no longer needed a fort. The Louvre became a palace home for French kings and queens.During the time of peace, new treasures were brought in. During the days of war, many treasures were stolen, and the buildings were damaged. When Francis I became the King of France in 1515, he brought in many artists from other countries. One of the artists was Leonardo da Vinci from Italy. Da Vinci’s Mona Lisa is the best known painting in the museum today. In 1793, the Louvre became a public museum. It is a place where art treasures are kept for everyone to enjoy. Every year millions of people from all over the world come to the Louvre to see the masterpieces.1. Most of works of art in the Louvre have been collected probably by ________.A. the French peopleB. Francis IC. Leonardo da VinciD. people of the world2. Why is it good for the works of art to be kept in public museums?A. The works of art will not be stolen.B. The works of art will not be damaged.C. Artists can study the works of art.D. Everyone has a chance to enjoy the works of art.3. According to the passage, which of the following statements is TRUE?A. The Louvre is always a museum since it was built.B. All the art treasures in the Louvre have been destroyed in the war.C. The Louvre was once the king’s castle in history.D. There is still a fort near the Louvre now.BWhat killed King Tut? Historians and scientists have long believed that ancient Egypt’s most famous king was probably murdered. But a recent scientific study claims to have founda different answer to this more than 3,300-year-old mystery. A team of researchers now say that King Tut, the boy ruler, died of complications (并发症)from a broken leg.Tut’s full name was Tutankhamun. He was just 9 years old when he became the ruler of Egypt in 1333 BC. His treasure-filled tomb was discovered almost a century ago. It was filled with royal riches, including a solid-gold coffin, a gold mask, and piles of jewelry.Unfortunately Tut died at the age of 19. Many experts have thought that Tut was killed by one of his advisers, named Ay, who wanted to be king. But thanks to a major modern science project, it seems Ay is innocent.Researchers set out to solve the mystery of King Tut’s death by using the tools of science, including DNA tests and electronic scans of his mummy(木乃伊). Scientist Carsten Pusch carried out the tests on Tut for the new study. He thinks a broken leg led to the young king’s death. More than 100 walking sticks were found in King Tut’s tomb. This supports the team’s findings. But how could a person die from a simple broken leg?Pusch also found DNA evidence in Tut’s body that shows he had malaria, a disease carried by mosquitoes. Malaria seriously weakens the immune system(免疫系统).Pusch and his fellow researchers believe the malaria and the bone disease together caused the king’s fracture(骨折)to become deadly. Finally, the young king was just too weak to recover. So effects of the disease combined with the bad luck of a broken bone —not a jealous adviser —are likely the real, causes of King Tut’s death.4. It has long been believed by historians and scientists that ________.A. King Tut was the youngest ruler in the world historyB. King Tut was the richest ruler in the history of EgyptC. King Tut was murdered by one of his advisersD. King Tut was poisoned by one of his servants.5. With the help of modern technology, the new study discovered that the king ________.A. died directly of a disease called malariaB. died of complications from a broken legC. died of a simple cut in the broken legD. was bitten to death by deadly mosquitoes6. Researchers uncovered the mystery of King Tut’s death by ________.A. testing the King’s immune systemB. studying the walking sticks found in the tombC. performing experiments on mosquitoesD. applying DNA tests and electronic scan technology7. The passage mainly tells us about ________.A. a different answer to King Tut’s deathB. a famous boy king in ancient EgyptC. a treasure-filled tomb discovered in EgyptD. a team of researchers studying ancient tombsCIn the 1960s, while studying the volcanic history of Yellowstone National Park, Bob Christiansen became puzzled about something that, oddly, had not troubled anyone before: he couldn’t find the park’s volcano. It had been known for a long time that Yellowstone was volcanic in nature —that’s what accounted for all its hot springs and other steamy features. But Christiansen couldn’t find the Yellowstone volcano anywhere. Most of us, when we talk about volcanoes, think of the classic cone(圆锥体)shapes of a Fuji or Kilimanjaro, which are created when erupting magma(岩浆)piles up. These can form remarkably quickly. In 1943, a Mexican farmer was surprised to see smoke rising from a small part of his land. In one week he was the confused owner of a cone five hundred feet high. Within two years it had topped out at almost fourteen hundred feet and was more than half a mile across. Altogether there are some ten thousand of these volcanoes on Earth, all but a few hundred of them extinct. There is, however, a second less known type of volcano that doesn’t involve mountain building. These are volcanoes so explosive that they burst open in a single big crack, leaving behind a vast hole, the caldera. Yellowstone obviously was of this second type, but Christiansen couldn’t find the caldera anywhere.Just at this time NASA decided to test some new high-altitude cameras by taking photographs of Yellowstone. A thoughtful official passed on some of the copies to the park authorities on the assumption that they might make a nice blow-up for one of the visitors’ centers. As soon as Christiansen saw the photos, he realized why he had failed to spot the caldera: almost the whole park —2.2 million acres —was caldera. The explosion had left a hole more than forty miles across —much too huge to be seen from anywhere at ground level. At some time in the past Yellowstone must have blown up with a violence far beyond the scale of anything known to humans.8. What puzzled Christiansen when he was studying Yellowstone?A. Its complicated geographical features.B. Its ever-lasting influence on tourism.C. The mysterious history of the park.D. The exact location of the volcano.9. What does the second paragraph mainly talk about?A. The shapes of volcanoes.B. The impacts of volcanoes.C. The activities of volcanoes.D. The heights of volcanoes.10. What does the underlined word “blow-up” in the last paragraph most probably mean?A. Hot-air balloon.B. Digital camera.C. Big photograph.D. Bird’s view.第二节(共5小题;每小题2分,满分10分)根据短文内容,从短文后的选项中选出能填入空白处的最佳选项。

These are volcanoes so explosive that they burst open in a single big crack, leavingbehind a vast hole, the caldera. Yellowstone obviously was of this second type, but Christiansencouldn’t find the caldera anywhere.Just at this time NASA decided to test some new high-altitude cameras by taking photographsof Yellowstone. A thoughtful official passed on some of the copies to the park authorities on thecenters. As soon as assumption that they might make a nice blow-up for one of the visitors’ Christiansen saw the photos, he realized why he had failed to spot the caldera: almost the wholepark —2.2 million acres —was caldera. The explosion had left a hole more than forty miles across —much too huge to be seen from anywhere at ground level. At some time in the past Yellowstonemust have blown up with a violence far beyond the scale of anything known to humans.8. What puzzled Christiansen when he was studying Yellowstone?A. They represented a variety of incomes and education. The researchers found that, in an average day, children hear about 13,000 spoken words from adults and participated in about 400 adult-child conversations a day.Assessed separately, factors positively associated with language development included each additional 100 conversations a day and each 1,000 words increase in the number of words spoken by adults and heard by children. When looked at alone, TV was negatively associated with language development. But, when the three factors were analyzed together, the only one that stood out was conversation between adults and children.“The more a child speaks and interacts with an adult, the better idea a parent has about where the child is,”Zimmerman said.“Although it’s mostly done unconsciously, parents will provide feedback and correct mistakes. They’ll a lso tailor their speech to the child. Parents can give a child words by talking to them about what they’re doing, such as,‘I’m putting on your pajamas now’. But give your child the opportunity to talk, hopefully without the rest of the noise in the environm ent,” she added.“If parents can carve out some conversation time-maybe at bath time or at dinner time-that’s a wonderful thing.”1.The researchers also found that TV viewing______.来源学#科#⽹Z#X#X#K]A.could have a positive effect on a child’s language deve lopmentB.had a little effect on a child’s language developmentC.affected a child’s language development more negatively than positivelyD.affected a child’s language development both negatively and positively2.Frederick Zimmerman would probably agree that____.A.parents should let their children talk most o f the timeB.children should watch TV programs selectivelyC.the conversation between parents and children should be two-wayD.it’s no good for parents to correct their children’s mistakes when they are speaking3.We can conclude from the last paragraph that_____.A.parents should let a child repeat what he or she saysB.bath time or dinner time is the best chance for parents to talk to a childC.parent-child conversation can be carried out at any proper timeD.parents should leave a child talking alone4.The underlined word “tailor” in the last paragraph can be best replaced by___.A.controlB.improveC.passD.adjust5.What would be the best title for the passage?A.Talk with kids, not at themB.Let your children voice their own opinionsC.How to develop a child’s language abilityD.The importance of early child language developmentMost young people enjoy some form of physical activity. It may be walking, cycling or swimming, or in winter, skating or skiing. It may be a game of some kind, foo tball, hockey, golf or tennis. It may be mountaineering. Those who have a passion for climbing high and difficult mountains are often looked upon with astonishment. Why are men and women willing to suffer cold and hardship, and to take risks on high mountains? This astonishment is caused probably by the difference between mountaineering and other forms of activity to which men give their leisure.Mountaineering is a sport and not a game. There are no man-made rules, as there are for such games as golf and football. There are, of course, rules of a different kind which it would be dangerous to ignore, but it is this freedom from man-made rules that makes mountaineering a ttractive to many people. Those who climb mountains are free to use their own methods. If we compare mountaineering and other more familiar sports, we might think that one big differenc e is that mountaineering is not a “team game”. We should be mistaken in this. There are, it is true, no “matches” between teams of climbers, but when climbers are on a rock face linked by a rope on which their lives may depend, there is obviously team work. The mountain climber knows that he may have to fight forces that are stronger and more powerful than man. He has to fight the forces of nature. His sport requires high mental and physical qualities.A mountain climber continues to improve in skill year after year. A skier is probably past his best by the age of thirty, and most international tennis champions are in their early twenties. But it is not unusual for a man of fifty or sixty to climb the highest mountains in the Alps. They may take more time than younger men, but they probably climb with more skill and less waste of effort, and they certainly experience equal enjoyment.6.Which of the following can be the best title for the passage?A.Differences between Golf and MountaineeringB.Sports and GamesC.MountaineeringD.Why are crazy about mountaineering7.The mountaineering can also be called a team sport because_____ .A.moun tain climbers usually compete in groupsB.mountaineers depend on each other while climbingC.mountaineering climbers are free to use their won rules to climbD.mountaineering is a sport not a game8.The biggest difference between golf and mountaineering lies in____.A.team gameB.enjoymentC.ageD.rules9.In the author’s opinion, one of the most important reasons why so many people enjoy mountaineering is that____.A.there are no man-made rules for mountaineersB.mountaineering is a sport and not a gameC.it is one of the most dangerous sportsD.mountaineering brings us more enjoyment than other sportsⅡ.语法填空The story tells of a woman who during the war went to live with her husband in camp on the Mojave Desert. Very few people were still out except a few sad-looking homeless people under blankets.About a block away from my apartment,I heard a sound behind me.I turned quickly, half expecting to see someone with a knife or a gun.The street was empty. All I saw was a shining streetlight.Still, the noise had made me nervous,so I started to run faster. Not until I reached my apartment building and unlocked the door did I realize what the noise had been.It had been my wallet falling to the sidewalk.Suddenly I wasn’t cold or tired any more.I ran out of the door and backed to where I’d heard the noise.Although I searched the sidewalk anxiously for fifteen minutes,my wallet was nowhere to be found.Just as I was about to give up the search,I heard the garbage truck(垃圾车)pull up to the sidewalk next to me.When a voice called from the inside,“Alisa Camacho?” I thought I was dreaming. How could this man know my name? The door opened, and out jumped a small red-haired man with an amused look in his eyes.“Is this what you’re looking for?” he asked, holding up a small square shape. It was nearly3a.m.by the time I got into bed.I wouldn’t get much sleep that night, but I had got my wallet back.I also had got back some enjoyment of city life.I realized that the city wouldn’t be a bad place as long as people were willing to help each other.4.How did the writer feel when she was walking home after work?A.Cold and sick.B.Lucky and hopeful.C.Satisfied and cheerful.D.Disappointed and helpless.5.On her way home the writer.A.lost her wallet unknowinglyB.was stopped by a garbage truck driverC.was robbed of her wallet by a man with a knifeD.found some homeless people following her6.In the fifth paragraph, why did the writer say she was dreaming?A.Someone offered to take her back home.B.A red-haired man came to see her.C.She heard someone call her name.D.Her wallet was found in a garbage truck.7.From the text,we can infer that the writer.A.would stop working at nightB.would stay on in San FranciscoC.would make friends with cleanersD.would give up her job at the bankCChinese cuisine(烹饪)is widely known and enjoyed all around the world.Who doesn’t long for a favorite Chinese dish? But there is one interesting concept concerning Chinese food which is almost unheard of in the West, and which is becoming increasingly ignored by the youth of the East—the ancient custom of“tonic(滋补品) food”.Tonic food is food which is consumed to improve one’s well-being or avoid sickness. For instance,it was once the custom for new mothers to eat a sesame oil(芝麻油)hot pot every day for the first month after giving birth. It was believed that this dish would benefit the muscles, reduce pain, improve circulation, stimulate sweating, and warm the body. Some foods, such as goat meat and spinach, are seen as being “hot”,while others, such as Chinese cabbage and radish, are seen as being“cold”. One should be careful not to eat too much of either“hot” or“cold” food. However, how much“hot” or“cold” food one should eat depends on the time of the year, how the food is prepared, what it is prepared with, and the individual’s health. The custom of employing tonic food for a healthier life also influences the catering industry.Chinese herbal medicines, such as wolfberry(枸杞子),can be found on many a restaurant menu, either added to fruit tea or as a beneficial addition to a dish. These herbs attract customers, such as overworked office staff,in need of a modestpick-me-up.So,whether you need to boost your strength with a large helping of chicken soup, or increase your mental powers with a serving of pig’s brain soup, you may find that this ancient Chinese custom could be just the tonic food you were looking for.8.What is the present situation of tonic food?A.It is catching less attention.B.It is enjoyed by many young people.C.It is well known worldwide.D.It is becoming increasingly popular.9.What is believed to benefit new mothers?A.Chinese cabbage.B.Fruit tea.C.Sesame oil hot pot.D.Pig’s brain soup.10.Which of the following best explains“catering” underlined in Paragraph3?A.Medicine.B.Restaurant.cation.D.Fashion.11.What can be a suitable title for the text?A.The Charm of Chinese CuisineB.The Popularity of Tonic FoodC.An Introduction to Chinese Tonic FoodD.Differences Between Hot Food and Cold FoodDStrangers Under the Same RoofDoes every dinner with your parents seem to turn into an argument?Have your once warm and open conversations become cold and guarded?Do you feel that you justcannot see eye to eye with them on anything? You are not alone.Heated arguments and cold silences are common between teenagers and their parents.Teenagers’physical changes may result in such family tensions. You may feel anxious that you are developing at a different rate from your friends, shooting up in height or getting left far behind. You might worry about your changing voice, weight problems or spots(粉刺).When it all gets too much, your parents are often the first targets of your anger. It can be a big headache to balance your developing mental needs too.You enter a strange middle ground—no longer a small child but not quite an adult. You have both a new desire for independence and a continued need for your parents’love and support. You feel ready to be more responsible and make decisions on your own.Unfortunately, your parents do not always agree and that makes you feel unhappy.“Why can’t they just let me go?” you may wonder. On the other hand, when you are struggling to control your feelings, you wish they could be more caring and patient—sometimes they forget that growing up is a rough ride.It can be difficult when your parents treat you like a child but expect you to act like an adult. All of this can lead to a breakdown in your relationship.Although sometimes it may seem impossible to get along as a family, you can take action to improve the situation. The key to keeping the peace is regular and honest communication. When you disagree with your parents, take a minute to calm down and try to understand the situation from their point of view.Perhaps they have experienced something similar and do not want you to go through the same pain. After you havethought it through, explain your actions and feelings calmly, listen carefully, and address their concerns.Through this kind of healthy discussion, you will learn when to back down and when to ask your parents to relax their control.Just remember that it is completely a common thing to struggle with the stress that parent-child tensions create, and that you and your parents can work together to improve your relationship. The good news is that this stormy period will not last. Everything will turn out all right in the end,and the changes and challenges of your teenage years will prepare you for adulthood.12.The first paragraph is mainly introducing.A.the importance of close family relationshipsB.the quarrels between teenagers and their parentsC.the wall of trust between parents and their teenagersD.the common conversations between parents and children13.What mainly causes the teenager family tensions according to the author?A.Their parents’attitude towards them.B.Parents’strict control over their teenagers.C.Parents’expectations of their children’s development.D.Teenagers’physical changes and their mental needs.14.What would the author agree according to the passage?A.Parents should let go of the control over their teenagers.B.Teenagers should always follow their parents’points of view.C.Parents and teenagers should always keep open conversations.D.Teenagers should not depend on their parents’love and support.15.The author thinks the stress that family tensions cause is.A.normalB.terribleC.avoidableD.natural第二节(共5小题;每小题2.5分,满分12.5分)阅读下面短文,从短文后的选项中选出可以填入空白处的最佳选项。

He changed scientific thinking in the modern world. He is generally considered as the greatest physicist who ever lived. What’s more, he devoted a lot of his time and energy to working for human rights and progress. In 1933, while Einstein was visiting England and the United States, the Nazi government of Germany took all his things away, including his position and his citizenship. Einstein then settled down in the United States. In 1939, Einstein, who loved peace—afraid of a world in which only Hitler would had an atomic bomb(原子弹)—tried hard to persuade President Franklin D. Roosevelt in a famous letter to have the United States start uranium research. That Germany, after all, had no bomb, and that the first bomb would fall on Japan, could not have been expected. After the war, Einstein never stopped working for peace and reducing the number of soldiers in the world.Although he wasn’t connected with any accepted religion(宗教), Einstein felt that trust in a personal God was too special an idea to be suitable to the God at work in this universe, but he never believed that the universe was one of chance or disorder. The universe to him was one of pure law and order. He once said, “God may know everything, but he is not hateful.”50. From the passage we know that .A. no scientist is as great as Albert Einstein during this centuryB. Albert Einstein was likely to be the greatest scientist of his timeC. These fellows in the middle of the plate have died.” Dr Alexander Fleming was talking to another doctor in a laboratory in London. He had been studying some germs(细菌)that he was growing on a plate. They were very dangerous germs because they caused different kinds of illnesses that could killpeople. Dr Fleming found that a mould(霉菌)had floated in through the window landing on the plate. It had killed some of the germs it had touched.“This certainly looks promising.” Fleming said. “We must grow some of this mould to see if it will kill other germs.”He named the strange mould “penicillin”. It proved to be a ki ller of many germs. Fifty mice were given deadly germs and then half of them were injected(注射)with penicillin. The twenty-five untreated mice died, but twenty-four of those lived that had been treated with penicillin. Dr Fleming wrote a report about what he had found out. Hardly anybody took any notice of it.In 1938 Dr Howard Florey, an Australian working in London, read Dr Fleming’s report and was very interested. He found that penicillin was effective in treating blood poisoning in human beings. When World War II broke out, it was not possible to make enough penicillin in England. Dr Florey went to America where he helped to have enormous amounts of this wonderful drug made. It saved the lives of thousands of soldiers, sailors and airmen who would have died from their wounds if the hospitals had not had penicillin.54. In 1938, an Australian working in London named Howard Florey read Dr Fleming’s report and .A. left England for America, making the drugB. went to America to save the lives of thousands of soldiers, sailors and airmenC. found penicillin effective in treating blood poisoning in human beingsD. went to America to make this drug for miceDYou either have it , or you don’t –a sense of direction ,that is .But why is it that some people could find their way across the Sahara without a map ,while others can lose themselves in the next street?Scientists say we’re all born with a sense of direction, but it is not property understood howit works .One theory is that people with a good sense of direction have simply worked harder at developing it. Research being carried out at Liverpool University supports this idea and suggests that if we don’t use it. We lose it .“Children as young as seven have the ability to find their way around.” says Jim Martland, research Director of the project . “However if they are not allowed out alone or are taken everywhere by car ,they never develop the skills”Jim Martland also emphasizes that young people should be taught certain skills to improvetheir sense of direction. He makes the following suggestions.●If you are using a map, turn it so it relates to the way you are facing.●If you leave your bike in a strange place, put it near something like a big stone ora tree.Note landmarks on the route as you go away from your bike .When you return, go backalong the same route.●Simplify the way of finding your direction by using lines such as streets in atown, streams, or walls in the countryside to guide you . Count your steps so that you know howfar you have gone and note any landmarks such as tower blocks or hills which can help tofind out where you are.Now what you need never gets lost again!58.Scientists believe that ________________. .A.some babies are born with a sense of directionB.people learn a sense of direction as they grow olderC.people never lose their sense of directionD.everybody posses a sense of direction from birth59.What is true of seven-year-old children according to the passage?A.They never have a sense of direction without maps.B.They should never be allowed out alone if they lack a sense of direction.C.They have a sense of direction and can find their way around.D.They can develop a good sense of direction if they are driven around in a car. 60.If you leave your bike in a strange place ,you should _______ .A.tie it to a tree so as to prevent it from being stolenB.draw a map of the route to help remember where it isC.avoid taking the same route when you come back in itD.remember something easily recognizable on the route第节信息匹配(共5小题;每小题2分,满分10分)请阅读下列相关信息,从A---F选项中选出能概括每一段主题的最佳选项。
