In this part of the unit you’ll practice speaking to yourself. You may feel a bit awkward at first but you’ll soon get used to it. Once you feel comfortable in dealing with these situations, you will be more confident when you speak English in real situations. Now read or listen to the following passage and then try to retell it.

After that, students cannot only say the name of various Chinese holidays and festivals but also can describe these festivals. Today, we will continue our study about some background knowledge about Chinese holidays and festivals.

1.First of all, ask studentsto close their books and play the recording twice. Then, ask the following questions:

Why doesn’t the writer like festivals now?
2.After going over the passage, ask students to read it aloud and try to retell the story in his or her own language. Students can do this activity individually or in pairs. Later, ask volunteers to retell the passage in class. It might be a little slow at the beginning and give them enough time to practice it.

3)We didn’t have TV at home. We would play cards, visit relatives and friends, or sit around chatting and eating delicacies.
