2023-2024学年广东全部城市人教版高考专题英语高考模拟1.阅读理解第1题.I'm not much of a gardener. I love having beautiful flowers—but I don't have a good track record when it comes to making them grow.A few months after our son left for the Middle East, my friend gifted me a box of tulip bulbs(郁金香球茎). She explained that these bulbs were put into the ground in the fall and lay sleeping all winter. They had all the nutrients they needed inside the bulb and would come out in the spring. "When you see the leaves of the tiny flowers pushing toward the sun, you'll know that it's almost time for your son to come home. They'll give you what you need most." She walked me through the process of planting them. I thanked her—trying to show my gratitude for her gift.It was a long winter—cold and dark. I endured both the weather and the loneliness and fear I felt with my son away. Dead leaves, frost and finally a heavy snow covered the area where I'd planted those flowers, and I soon forgot they were there. Finally the weather began to warm. One day, as I walked down my front steps, I noticed an area of green. I bent down to inspect the situation more clearly and saw that those tulips had begun to grow, their tiny leaves forcing their way to the sun.Day after day I noted the flowers' progress. And day after day, the time approached when my son would finally be home. Now with spring just around the corner, nothing could keep either of us from marching toward the light. Almost all of those bulbs bloomed. And with each brightly colored flower, I marked off one day closer to getting to hold my son in my arms again.(1)What can we know about the author?A: She is a professional gardener.B: She is not good at growing flowers.C: She never plants flowers at home.D: She often sends friends flowers as gifts.(2)Why did the writer forget the tulip bulbs soon?A: The bitter winter reminded her of her son far away.B: She was discouraged from making another attempt.C: They failed to live through the cold and long winter.D: She had no hope for beautiful flowers indeed.(3)What were those flowers mentioned in the last paragraph referred to?A: A physical representation of the hope.B: Things deep inside her heart and soul.C: A lesson she will never forget completely.D: The trouble she had in making them come out.(4)What can be a suitable title for the text?A: A dark winter with hope.B: Planting hope in winter.C: An area of green in spring.D: Living a changeable life.【答案】BDAB【解答】(1)B 细节理解题。

2023-2024学年广东全部城市人教版高考专题英语高考模拟1.阅读理解第1题.After 400 years, William Shakespeare (1564-1616) is still widely celebrated as a great crafter of language and playwright(剧作家). But he was not the only great master of dramatic writing to die in 1616, and he is certainly not the only writer to have left a lasting impact on theatre. While less known worldwide, Tang Xianzu is rightly considered China's greatest playwright and is highly admired in that country of ancient literary and dramatic traditions.Tang was born in 1550 in Linchuan, Jiangxi Province, and worked as a government official until, in 1598 and aged 49, he retired to focus on writing. Unlike Shakespeare's large body of plays and poems, Tang wrote only four major plays: The Purple Hairpin, A Dream under a Southern Bough, Dream of Handan and The Peony Pavilion—widely considered to be his masterpiece. In the latter three, much of the story is told through dream sequences. Tang used these scenes to explore human emotions in ways that challenged the feudal system of his time. It is a similar dream structure that we find in Shakespeare's A Midsummer Night's Dream.Tang lived towards the end of the Ming Dynasty (1368-1644) and, similarly to Shakespeare, his lasting success was partly due to the growth of theatre as an artistic practice during his lifetime. As in Shakespeare's England, it became hugely popular in China, with public theatres opening in different cities and traveling performance groups becoming common. Theatrical audiences started to populate open public spaces, and theatre as a popular form ofentertainment found its place outside palaces. However, unlike in Shakespeare's England, there was hardly any mixing of the rich with commoners at theatrical events.During this time, the way in which play-texts were enjoyed, spread and performed also changed. Initially, Chinese dramas had an emphasis on poetic language and were distributed in book form, to be read like novels. They were seldom, if ever, performed. However, from the mid-16th century, kunqu opera, a form of musical drama, spread from southern China to become a symbol of Chinese culture. While Tang and Shakespeare lived a world away from each other, they share in common the humanity of their drama, their heroic figures, their love for language, a lasting popularity—and the anniversary during which we still celebrate them.(1)Why does the writer refer to Shakespeare throughout this article about Tang?A: To compare the writing styles of the writers.B: To emphasize Tang's importance in literature.C: To assess the achievements of these two great writers.D: To examine the different influences of Tang and Shakespeare.(2)What distinguishes The Purple Hairpin from Tang's other plays?A: It does not rely heavily on dream scenes.B: It is widely considered to be his best work.C: It was the only play to be publicly performed.D: It challenged the feudal system of ancient China.(3)What characteristic was shared by both English and Chinese theatre during Tang's lifetime?A: Music and poetry were present in most performances.B: The popularity of public theatrical performances grew rapidly.C: Different social classes often attended the same performances.D: Most plays were written to be read as novels rather than performed.(4)Which of the following would the author probably agree with?A: Tang's plays were superior to his poems.B: Tang is more widely read than Shakespeare.C: Tang is the best playwright in Chinese history.D: Tang and Shakespeare knew of each other's works.【答案】BABC【解答】(1)B 推理判断题。

人教版广东广州高考专题英语高考模拟1.阅读理解第1题.Wolves use many different types of communication. One way they communicate is through sound. The howl(嗥叫)is a well-known method wolves use to communicate with each other. While howling, wolves often change their voices a lot. As a result, people are sometime "fooled" into believing that there are more wolves than there really are. People have often guessed, after listening to howls, that a pack(群)of wolves contained up to 20 individuals, when there were only 3 or 4. Some people have thought that wolves do that on purpose, in order to fool neighboring packs into believing that there are more animals present than there really are. However, many naturalists and wolf biologists do not accept that idea.Wolves seem to howl for many reasons. They often howl before they go on a hunt, possibly to get the pack together, and they often begin to howl after a successful hunt. That suggests that howling serves to bring a pack together, since wolves often become separated from each other during a hunt. They do not, however, howl while they are hunting. In addition, a wolf may howl alone if having, trouble locating its pack. Surprisingly, pack members seem to recognize each others voices, since individual wolves often have their own way of howling. Wolves will also howl in sadness after the death of their mates.Wolf packs may also howl to communicate with other packs, as two different wolf packs will sometimes answer each others howls. Wolves will also often answer the calls of humans who are pretending to howl like wolves.Wolves howl less often during May and June than they do during the rest of the year. This may be because that is the time that packs are most likely to have young pups(幼崽)present. It is possible that wolf packs who have young pups present often keep silent so they do not attract attention to their location, since pups can be easily hurt by predators(捕食性动物)like bears.(1)People argued about ________.A: how wolves howlB: why wolves howlC: when wolves howlD: where wolves howl(2)Wolves howl in order to ________.A: fool peopleB: fool neighboring packsC: convey different messagesD: make the pack sound stronger(3)Wolves don't howl often in early summer because ________.A: they don't howl when it's hotB: they have to save their energyC: they don't have enough food to eatD: they need to protect the young ones(4)We can learn from the text that ________.A: wolves don't answer humans' callB: a wolf pack consists of about 20 wolvesC: wolves always stay together when huntingD: different wolves have different ways of howling【答案】BCDD【解答】(1)B 推理判断题。

人教版广东广州高考专题英语高考模拟1.阅读理解第1题.From the very beginning of school we make books and reading a constant source of possible failure and public humiliation(侮辱). When children are little we make them read aloud before the teacher and other children, so that we can be sure they "know" all the words they are reading. This means that when they don't know a word, they are going to make a mistake, right in front of everyone. After having taught fifth-grade classes for four years, I decided to try at all costs to rid them of their fear and dislike of books, and to get them to read oftener and more adventurously. One day soon after school had started, I said to them, "Now I'm going to say something about reading that you have probably never heard a teacher say before. I would like you to read a lot of books this year, but I want you to read them only for pleasure. I am not going to ask you questions to find out whether you understand the books or not. If you understand enough of a book to enjoy it and want to go on reading it, that's enough for me. Also I'm not going to ask you what words mean."The children sat stunned and silent. Was this teacher talking seriously? One girl, who had just come to us from a school where she had had a very hard time, looked at me steadily for a long time after I had finished. Then, still looking at me, she said slowly and seriously, Mr Holt, do you really mean that "I said just as seriously?" I mean every word of it.During the spring she really astonished me. One day, she was reading at her desk. From a glimpse of the illustrations(插图)I thought I knew what the book was. I said to myself, "It can't be," and went to take a closer look. Sure enough, she was reading Moby Dick. I said, "Don't you find parts of it rather heavy going?" She answered, "Oh, sure, but I just skip over those parts and go on to the next good part."This is exactly what reading, I think, should be: find something, dive into it, take the good parts, skip the bad parts, get what you can out of it, and then go on to something else.(1)According to the passage, children's fear and dislike of books may result from ________.A: reading little and thinking littleB: reading often and adventurouslyC: being made to read too muchD: being made to read aloud before others(2)The teacher told his students to read ________.A: for higher scores in examsB: for knowledgeC: for enjoymentD: for a larger vocabulary(3)Upon hearing the teacher's talk, the children probably felt that ________. A: it sounded stupidB: it was not surprising at allC: it sounded too good to be trueD: it was no different from other teachers' talk(4)Which statement about the girl is TRUE according to the passage?A: She skipped over those easy parts while reading.B: She had a hard time finishing the required reading tasks.C: She learned to appreciate some parts of the difficult books.D: She turned out to be a top student after coming to this school.【答案】DCCC【解答】(1)D 细节理解题。

"I've met a lot of older Chinese and many have a crack in their front teeth; I believe that's from cracking the seeds," he said.I had never noticed the habit, but once he mentioned it, I suddenly became more aware. I realized that whenever I'm watching TV or typing a report, I always start mindlessly cracking sunflower seeds. My friend doesn't like sunflower seeds, and, to him, it seems unnecessary to work so much just to get one small seed. When we were young, the whole family would usually get together for Chinese New Year. Then, we all lived close to one another, usually in a small city, and sometimes even neighbors would go door-to-door on Chinese New Year's Eve to check out what every household was making.I remember my parents would be in the kitchen cooking. Out in the living room, a large table would already be laid out, complete with fancy tablecloth, ready-made dumpling fillings, and dishes full of candy, fruits and sunflower seeds. However, they believe the experiment is not just a creative concept for astronauts, it's also important for the development of drugs and yeast-containing foods, like bread."The idea started out with a few laughs among a group of friends," said Neeki Ashari, a fifth-year bioengineering student at UC San Diego. "We all appreciate the craft of beer. When we heard that there was an opportunity to design an experiment that would go up on India's moonlander, we thought we could combine our hobby with the competition by focusing on the practicality of yeast in outer space."The preparation work for the beer—up to the stage of adding yeast—will all be done on Earth, and rather than separating the fermentation (发酵) and carbonation stages of making beer, the team plans to combine them. This removes the need to release CO2 accumulated in the process, which may result in cleanliness and safety issues out in space. If selected, Team Original Gravity will be the first to make beer in outer space, and the fermentation will take place in a container no bigger than a soda can.All teams competing for the place will showcase their ideas in Bangalore, India, in March.Sadly, you won't be enjoying moon beer in your local craft beer bars anytime soon, as no samples will be brought back. However, this small experiment could provide important data on just how practical it is for us to make and create our own resources on other planets and moons by learning how consumables (消耗品) behave in different environments.(1)How did the students feel when they got the chance to design the experiment?A: Excited.B: Nervous.C: Confident.D: Casual.(2)What does the underlined word "This" in Paragraph 6 refer to?A: Adding yeast on Earth.B: The mixing of two stages.C: The preparation work on Earth.D: Fermentation and carbonation.(3)What can we learn about the experiment from the passage?A: It has been designed based on similar experiments.B: It's quite competitive compared with other designs.C: Its process was adapted to make it safer and greener.D: Its design has already been approved by Teamlndus.(4)What does the author think of the students' idea?A: It seems like a pipe dream.B: It's extremely complicated.C: It's creative but impractical.D: It's meaningful and hopeful.【答案】ABCD【解答】(1)A 细节理解题。

And if you get to have dogs and hug them every day, you just might live longer than people who don't have to clean animal hair off their clothes, according to a pair of studies recently. The studies, published in the journal Circulation: Cardiovascular Quality and Outcomes, suggest that dog ownership is linked to a 21% reduction in the risk of death—over the 12-year period studied—for people with heart disease. When you look at all the evidence around dog ownership and their health, it's pretty clear the signal is real. We've known forever that owning a dog increases one's physical activity. Regardless of weather, you have to get out and walk the dog. Otherwise, you might stay home and watch TV. Owning a dog makes you spend more time outdoors, and time spent outdoors improves health. Owning a dog or interacting with a dog even for a short term also reduces blood pressure. And the biggest advantage of having a dog is what it does for mental health. We see very beneficial effects on depression and anxiety. Many of us may not have a dog. And these studies have finally convinced someone to get one. We've thought of dogs as a form of comfort. The study forces a rethinking of pets in our society. We've started out with dogs as accomplices during hunts as hunter gatherers. Gradually, we selected for traitsof loyalty and friendship. At this point, many of us can totally seethe basic reasons why dogs improve our sense of well-being, reduce loneliness and can be an improvement to our physical and mental health.(1)Who might live longer according to the study?A: People who hate dogs.B: People who have dogs.C: People who haven't dogs.D: People who like bathing pets.(2)What can we infer about getting a dog in paragraph 3?A: It can cure heart disease.B: It can make people more energetic.C: It can help improve health.D: It can stop people from getting ill.(3)What is the largest benefit of getting a dog?A: Improving physical health.B: Improving mental health.C: Enjoying outdoor activities.D: Strengthening patience and love.(4)What is the author's purpose in writing the text?A: To show his love of dogs.B: To share his own experience of keeping a dog.C: To introduce a new life style.D: To state the finding of a study about keeping dogs.【答案】BCBD【解答】(1)B 细节理解题。

But I think,"A smart boy."You see, my son Gus has food allergies to peanuts and tree nuts, and even the smallest amount of accidental ingestion can touch off anaphylaxis—a severe immune response that affects multiple systems and can throw the body into shock. The hardest thing about raising a child with food allergies is that you have to be perfect. You always have to ask that question about nuts. You need to read labels every time, even for foods you've bought a zillion times before. And to be honest, that makes me anxious a lot of the time.Once, I brought home an Italian combo sandwich for my son without asking about nuts. After a single bite, my son said, "My tongue feels funny." Oh no. Those are words you never want to hear if your child has food allergies. I pulled apart his sandwich and found pistachios (开心果), one of the nuts he is most allergic to. What had I done? We immediately injected the contents of an EpiPen into his outer thigh(大腿)and raced to the Emergency Room.My son's first serious reaction happened when he was 3 years old, on a vacation to Puerto Rico. I still thank God he was OK, because that day could have turned out different if we were deep in the rainforest instead of right in a chain hotel in San Juan. His face swelled up after eating trail mix with nuts, and he had difficulty breathing. The one thing that calms me, to be honest, is Gus. Kids with food allergies have a superpower: they are mature far beyond their years. Gus is 11 now and is able to speak up for himself. When he orders his meal, whether it's at a sit-down restaurant or a fast food counter, he says, "I am allergic to all nuts. Can you make sure there are no nuts in anything I order? Thanks."(1)How does the author start her story?A: By stating her son's unique hobby.B: By asking the readers a question.C: By creating an imaginary scene.D: By comparing nuts with fruits.(2)What does the underlined phrase "touch off" in paragraph 2 probably mean?A: Describe.B: Recover.C: Affect.D: Cause.(3)Why did Gus say his tongue felt funny?A: He hated to eat pistachios.B: He had some allergic food.C: He wanted to amuse his mother.D: He found his sandwich half-cooked.(4)What can we learn about Gus's disease from the text?A: It can be deadly when it begins to attack.B: It's about three years since it was first found.C: It kept Gus away from fast food.D: It was due to his parents' ignorance in his babyhood.【答案】CDBA【解答】(1)C 细节理解题。

AHow to eat healthfully can be especially complex for working women who often have neither the desire nor the time to cook for themselves (or for anyone else). Registered dietitian(营养专家) Barhara Morrissey suggests that a few simple rules can help.“Go for nutrient dense foods,” she suggests, “foods that contain a multiple of nutrients. For example, selectwhole wheat bread as a breakfast food, rather than coffee cake. Or drink orange juice rather than orange drink, which contains only a small percentage of real juice-the rest is largely colored sugar water. You just can’t compare the value of these foods, the nutrient dense o nes are so superior,” she emphasizes.Morrissey believes that variety is not only the spice of life —it’s the foundation of a healthful diet. Diets which are based on one or two foods are not only virtually impossible to keep up the strength, they can be very harmful, she says, because nutrients aren’t supplied in sufficient amounts or balance.According to Morrissey, trying to find a diet that can cure your illnesses, or make you superwoman is a fruitless search. As women, many of us are too concerned with staying thin, she says, and we believe that vitamins are some kind of magic cure to replace food.“We need carbohydrates, protein and fat — they are like the wood in the fireplace. The vitamins and minerals are like the match, the spark, for the fuel,” she explains. “We need them all, but in a very different proportions. And if the fuel isn’t there, the spark is useless.”26. From the paragraph we know that working women .A.think cooking is especially complicatedB.do not share the same views with registered dietitiansC.are busy and not interested in cookingD. are likely to eat healthfully27. Orange juice is different from orange drink in that .A. it contains only a small percentage of real juiceB. it is natural, nutritious and prepared from real orangesC. it is largely orange-colored sugar waterD. it produces nothing but calories28. By “if the fuel isn’t there, the spark is useless”, the author means .A. carbohydrates, protein and fat are enough to support a human lifeB. vitamins and minerals are virtually of no valueC. carbohydrates, protein and fat are as important as vitamins and mineralsD. without carbohydrates, protein and fat, vitamins and minerals are of no useBRuben lived in a small village. Although it was never completed, it contains more than seven hundred species representing 164 families of flowering plants, a group of fruits showing the effect of fungus diseases, and thousands of flower parts and magnified details. Every detail of these is accurately reproduced in color and structure. The models are kept inlocked cases as they are too valuable and fragile for classroom use.41.
