2010年美国大学录取新变化等作者:来源:《世界教育信息》2010年第05期关注2010年美国大学录取新变化美国经济衰退之前,招收中低收入家庭的学生是那些校产丰厚、门槛较高大学遵循的一贯原则。
学校首先考虑的是学生的学业和社会能力,而不是学生家庭的经济支付能力。
如果学生符合财政资助的条件,一旦被录取,多数学校将保证他们的全部费用。
尽管哈佛、普林斯顿等全美20多所顶尖大学仍坚持过去的录取政策,即为中低收入家庭的学生提供资助,但其他大学如今在录取时,越来越注意学生的经济支付能力,有的学校还专门为有能力支付全额学费的学生腾出名额。
顶尖的公立大学如北卡罗来纳大学教堂山分校、密歇根大学安娜堡分校和加州大学伯克利分校等,正在录取更多的外州学生,因为他们的学费高,对学校财政贡献比本州学生大。
许多私立大学近年来录取学生呈现多元化特点,并为各类学生提供补助,而且因学费昂贵,家庭收入不满18万美元的学生甚至还能得到补助。
但这种状况如今已有改变,许多学校校产缩水,有的投资损失数以亿计,社会捐赠逐年减少,而需要资助的学生人数却在增加,这些都使学校的处境日益艰难,从而不得不改变传统的录取标准和做法。
(中国驻纽约总领事馆教育组,2010年4月5日)比利时根特大学解决国际学生住宿问题新举措近年来,比利时根特大学积极追求教育国际化,有越来越多国际学生和学者前来进行短期研究。
为解决他们的短期住宿问题,校方决定与民间租赁房主签约,额外租房提供宿舍。
校方表示,国际学生在租房市场向来处于弱势地位。
以该校为例,国际学生大多9月抵达根特,合适的租房选择已不多,加上房主大多会要求至少签约一年,造成国际学生或学者极大困扰。
因为学校需为本地学生预先保留宿舍,所以决定与校外租房者签约提供宿舍,本年度已与14家业主签约,提供143间宿舍,明年计划再增加租房间数。
签约房主同意将所有空房出租给国际学生短期住宿,根特大学也将支付订金,即便仍有空房未加利用,也会支付租金。

美国大学本科的四种录取方式作者:来源:《留学生》2015年第05期一般来说,大学有四种不同的录取方式,Regular admission(常规录取),Rolling Admission(整个学年都接受申请表格的招生),Early Decision(具有约束力的提前录取),Early Action(不具约束力的提前录取)。
一、常规录取(Regular admission)常规录取是标准的录取方式,美国大学申请—般为两次,春季入学和秋季入学,但有些学校只有秋季入学。
一般都选择申请秋季入学,只有没有办法才申请春季入学。
因为不是所有学校所有专业都接受春季入学,而且春季入学在招生数量、专业的选择、奖学金的申请等方面都有很大限制。
美国的四年制大学秋季入学申请的截止时间,一股是上一年的11月底截止。
就是说,如果你要申请来年秋季开学的学校,就要在今年的11月31日前把申请工作做完。
美国大学具体申请时间因学校不同,主要分两个档期每一个档期,对应的是不同的学校,越好的学校截止的时间越早。
被常规录取方式录取的学生必须在5月1日之前给予答复,随后录取决定生效。
也就是说申请人在5月1日前还可以等待其他大学的录取通知,只要在5月1日前作出选择并对学校的录取通知作出答复即可。
二、滚动录取(Rolling Admission)许多美国大学采用滚动录取的政策招收本科新生,但很少有顶级名校(如常春藤大学)采用这个政策。
这种方式让申请者有很长的时间申请接受滚动录取的美国大学。
滚动录取一般在收到申请表后几周内给申请者答复,同时只要有录取名额,大学一直都会接受申请表。
但申请者要意识到,不要以为没有截止日期就可以不着急递交申请表。
大多数情况下,越早申请,被录取的机会就越大。
因为虽然递交申请表没有截止时间,但奖学金、助学金和宿舍安排的申请却有截止时间。

美国大学2011年与2010年部分学校录取比美国大学的录取率是多高?从2012年3月30日开始,美国媒体和美国部分大学官网开始陆续刊登今年大学的录取率。
由于今年各校收到的申请人数剧增,今年美国各大学的录取率创下新低。
据官方媒体报道,今年美国各校的申请人数比去年有了大幅度的增加,但尽管有少部分学校确实比去年降低了录取学生数,总体来说录取学生数变化仍不是很大。
之所以变化是因为申请美国大学的学生基数不断扩大,而学校招生人数不变的情况下,导致招生比率不断下滑,直至出现新低。

中国的学生和家长们最关心的第一个问题恐怕是,到底要不要放弃高考去美国读大学?杨:这也是我平常工作中碰到的家长最经常问起的。
尤其是每年高考过后,很多家长找到我,本质上是同样的问题,孩子高考成绩不理想,是不是该去国外留学?只是他们更“吃亏”了一点,孩子没逃过高考!这被网上少男少女称之为“告别青春期的残酷折磨”。

留学的好处在于,基本上每个孩子都能找到适合自己的学校和专业,这是因为国外教育资源丰富,比如美国就有近4000所高校,而且是普及大学教育,理论上每个人都能上大学。
但前提是,孩子的英语要过关,这需要下功夫花时间;另外家庭必须有比较好的经济条件。

美国留学白皮书近日,《留学》杂志刊发的《2017留美中国学生现状白皮书》在网络上引起了广泛传播。
下面为您介绍美国留学白皮书。
全文中最引起人们关注的,莫过于令人惊讶的中国留学生在美退学数据。
根据白皮书透露,中国留美学生2015年开除总人数超过8000人,其中69.43%来到美国不超过两年,80.55%由于学术表现问题而退学。
而根据美国最权威教育杂志《The Chronical of Higher Education》 2012年的同类报道,留学学生退学较为集中的七所大学,中国留学生同时也较为集中。
而这七所学校几乎均为各州首府大校,也以较为严苛的学术标准著称。
对于美国大学和生活压力毫无概念的中国学生,则在这一环境下必然面临着更大的挑战。
中国留学生学术挑战最严峻的七所大学(引自《The Chronicle of Higher Education》)最为关键的是,这一数据并不包含无法毕业的中国学生。
实际上,在美国的中国留学生普遍遇到的最大问题是无法毕业,而非直接退学。
在以上七所学校的中国留学生GPA分布中,我们可以看到GPA 2.0 以下的学生仅为17.9%,而47.1%的学生GPA分布在2.0-3.0之间。
也就是说接近一半的中国低分学生并不受Probation(留校察看)政策的约束。
但在美国高校,Probation并非唯一导致学生无法毕业的因素。
如专业课成绩不达标,First Year Writing写作必修课未通过,Undeclared学生(无录取专业的学生)GPA未满足进入专业学院的标准等情况均会让中国学生在美国本科四五年时间仍然无法毕业,这一现象在留美中国学生当中非常普遍。
这不仅耗费了学生大量的精力和时间,更让家庭承担了巨大的经济压力。
无法毕业的留学生群体,被我们称为美国留学的灰色地带,这一数据由于统计较为困难并未在《2015留美中国学生现状白皮书》中看到端倪。
但根据以上七所典型大学的GPA分布情况,我们可以断定这一数字至少是退学学生的两倍以上。
