From my perspective, I strongly object to the arbitrary assertion made by this psychologist. Suffice it to say that whether the influence is positive or negative depends on what attitudes do you hold towards the interpersonal interaction. Precisely, if you regard interaction as a meaningful bridge between person to person, using sophisticated technologies proficiently can help you to reduce the distance between others. On the contrary, if you aren’t a sociable people originally, the revolution of interacting methods may causes an adverse repercussion upon you.
For people who don’t have enough impetus to be sociable before, there is no doubt that the unprecedented development of interacting methods will diminish the time for interaction and conversation, which makes formidable obstacles for these people. The screens of computers or phones restrict them to the small world of Internent. Only by removing the attention from the screen to the real world can they overcome the negative impact brought by the connecting technologies.
For people who arewilling to associate with others, it is so perfect an improvement for them to be more close to their friends. The revolutionary innovation in the fields of instant messaging cut down the time cost of interaction. The more convenient the interaction is, the more often they connect with each other. They will connect each other more efficiently, rather than become solitary.
All in all, whether the profound influence exerted by the innovation of connecting methods is positive absolutely depends on the people themselves. Only by becoming a more sociable people can we benefits from it, or it will jeopardize us.
