Role-play in pairs according to the situations below
1.Student A is a cashier at a supermarket, and Student B is a telephone operator at a company.
Make up a dialogue to talk about each other’s likes and dislikes about their job.
2.Student A:
You want to speak to Ms. Black of G&B Company. Ms. Black isn’t in the office,so you leave the following information:
·Your name;
·Cell phone number: 137-000-0000;
·Why you are calling: the changing conditions of your contract with G&B;
·How you can be contacted :you can be reached up to 4 o’clock at the above number. If Ms.
Black calls after 4 o’clock, she should call 8560-0000.
Student B:
You are a receptionist at G&B Company. Student A would like to speak to Ms. Black, but she is out of the office. Take a message and make sure you get the following information:
·Name and telephone number, ask Student A to spell the surname;
·Message that Student A would like to leave for Ms. Black;
·When Ms. Black can call Student A at the given telephone number.
3.You are the assistant of George Smith, Purchasing Manager of HRC Corporation. Someone
calls to be connected to Mr. Smith. Find out who’s calling and why. Explain that your boss is not available now.
4.You are departing from an airport in Canada. You are stopped by a security officer, who thinks
there is something unusual with you and asks you several questions:
·What is the purpose of your visit?
·Who have you been in contact with in Toronto?
·Where have you been staying?
·What is inside your case?
5.You are the Export Manager of Guangzhou Cosmetics Ltd., and are now at the Baiyun Airport
to meet your Canadian customer, Mr. Wilson. You have been dealing with each other through telephone and email for one or two years, but have never met before. After you meet, you exchange greetings and make a small talk on the way to the hotel.
6.One of you is a salesperson and the other is a potential customer. The salesperson tries to sell
some cosmetics to the potential customer.
7.Discuss in pairs. What are your favorite TV commercials? Describe them to your partner and
explain why you think they are effective.
8.One of you is the Marketing Manager of a company specialized in children’s shoes, and the
other is the Advertising Manager. The Children’s Day is coming. Your company is planning an advertising campaign and you are discussing the details of this campaign.
9.Li Ming is exhibiting his company’s products (cotton shirts) in the China Import& Export Fair.
Mr. Thomas, a large dealer in textiles, is discussing the quality, size, color, price, etc. with him.
10.One of you plays the role of seller and the other plays the role of buyer. The buyer is in urgent
need of the goods and requires a prompt shipment after the conclusion of the contract.
However, due to the lack of raw materials, the seller cannot meet this requirement. You are trying to work out a delivery time to the satisfaction of both parties.
