续写A Vacation with My MotherI had an interesting childhood. It was filled with surprise and amusement, all because of my mother---loving, sweet, yet absent-minded and forgetful. One strange family trip we took when I was elven tells a lot about her.My two sets of grandparents lived in Colorado and North Dakota, and my parents decided to spend a few weeks driving to those states and seeing all the sights along the way. As the first day of our trip approached, David, my eight-year-old brother, and I unwillingly said good-bye to all of our friends. Who knew if we would ever see them again Finally, the moment of our departure arrived, and we loaded suitcases, books, games, camping equipment, and a tent into the car and bravely drove off. We bravely drove off again two hours later after we’d returned home to get the purse and traveler’s checks Mom had forgotten.David and I were always a little nervous when using gas station bathroom if Mom was driving while Dad slept: “You stand outside the door and play lookout (放哨) while I go, and I’ll stand outside the door and play lookout while you go.” I had terrible pictures in my mind: “Honey, where are the kids”“What! Oh, Gosh… I thought they were being awfully quite.” We were never actually left in a strange city, but we were not about to take any chance. On the fourth or fifth night, we had trouble finding a hotel with a vacancy. After driving in vain for some time, Mom suddenly got a great idea: Why didn’t we find a house with a likely-looking backyard and ask if we could set up tent there David and I became nervous. To our great relief, Dad turned down the idea. Mom never could understand our objections(反对). If a strange family showed up on her front doorstep, Mom would have been delighted. She thinks everyone in the world is as nice as she is. We finally found a vacancy in the next town.

I would unlock the door to a world filled with unicorns and dragons, and maybe even a land made of candy!Reading this story made me realize that no matter how big or small we are, we all have the power to overcome challenges and achieve our dreams. I will always remember the lesson thatLily learned on her journey and try to be as brave and determined as she was.I can't wait to read more stories like this one and go on new adventures with the characters. It felt like we had stepped into a different world, where anything was possible. We walked deeper into the forest, following a narrow path that led us through thickets and overgrown bushes. Suddenly, we heard a faint giggle coming from behind a tree. With giggles and laughter, we twirled and spun with the fairies, feeling the magic of the forest coursing through our veins. After the dance, the fairies led us to a clearing where a majestic unicorn stood, its coat shining in the sunlight. Unfortunately, all their attempts failed. Finally, the boy’s father came up with an idea. One day, his father gave him a huge bag of nails, asking him to hammer one nail to the fence every time he lost his temper.

On a bright, warm July afternoon, Mac Hollan, a primary school teacher, was cycling from his home to Alaska with his friends. One of his friends had stopped to make a bicycle repair, but they had encouraged Mac to carry on,and they would catch up with him soon. As Mac pedaled (骑行) along alone, he thought fondly of his wife and two young daughters at home. He hoped to show them this beautiful place someday. Then Mac heard quick and loud breathing behind him. “Man,that’s a big dog!” he thought. But when he looked to the side,he saw instantly that it wasn’t a dog at all,but a wolf, quickly catching up with him.Mac’s heart jumped. He found out his can of bear spray. With one hand on the bars, he fired the spray at the wolf.A bright red cloud enveloped the animal, and to Mac’s relief, it fell back, shaking its head. But a minute later,it was by his side again. Then it attacked the back of Mac’s bike, tearing open his tent bag. He fired at the wolf a second time, and again, it fell back only to quickly restart the chase (追赶).Mac was pedaling hard now. He waved and yelled at passing cars but was careful not to slow down. He saw a steepuphill climb before him. He knew that once he hit the hill,he’d be easy caught up and the wolf’s teeth would be tearing into his flesh. At this moment, Paul and Becky were driving their car on their way to Alaska. They didn’t think much of it wh en they saw two cyclists repairing their bike on the side of the road. A bit later, they spotted what they, too, assumed was a dog running alongside a man on a bike. As they got closer, they realized that the dog was a wolf. Mac heard a large vehicle behind him. He pulled in front of it as the wolf was catching up fast, just a dozen yards away now.

Eva spent the first week of high school trying to keep her head above water. One of the major headaches for her was finding her way in the huge school building. It was a six-story building. On each floor, hallways stretched in four directions, leading to classrooms, laboratories, and teachers’ offices. Somewhere in the building, there was also a library, a cafeteria, and a gym.Having a poor sense of direction, Eva found it impossible to get around in such a huge building. All the different hallways and rooms were too much to think about, let alone commit to memory. She decided that she would memorize where her classes were and then pretend that the rest of the place didn’t exist. In her first PE class, Eva was shocked when Coach Pitt announced that everyone had to run one mile around the track outside. She searched the faces of her classmates for signs of panic. There was nothing she feared more than having to run a whole mile. To Eva, “a mile” was used to describe long distances. It was ten miles from her home to her grandfather’s, and that always seemed like a long way, even in a car! When Coach Pitt blew his whistle (哨子), Eva figured she would be left in the dust. However, while some ofher classmates edged ahead, others actually fell behind. ” It’s just the beginning, “she thought.” I’ll come in last for sure. “Soon Eva began to breathe hard, with her heart pounding and legs shaking. Feeling desperate, Eva started using a mind trick on herself. She stopped thinking about the word” mile. “Instead, she focused on reaching the shadow cast on the track by an oak tree up ahead. Then she concentrated on jogging to the spot where the track curved (拐弯). After that, she tried to see if she could complete her first lap. One lap turned into two, then three, then four.

One fall, my wife Elli and I had a single goal: to photograph polar bears. We were staying at a research camp outside “the polar bear capital of the world” —the town of Churchill in Manitoba, Canada.Taking pictures of polar bears is amazing but also dangerous. Polar bears — like all wild animals — should be photographed from a safe distance. When I’m face to face with a polar be ar, I like it to be through a camera with a telephoto lens. But sometimes, that is easier said than done. This was one of those times. As Elli and I cooked dinner, a young male polar bear who was playing in a nearby lake sniffed, and smelled our garlic bread. The hungry bear followed his nose to our camp, which was surrounded by a high wire fence. He pulled and bit the wire. He stood on his back legs and pushed at the wooden fence posts.Terrified, Elli and I tried all the bear defense actions we knew. We yelled at the bear, hit pots hard, and fired blank shotgun shells into the air. Sometimes loudnoises like these will scare bears off. Not this polar bear though — he just kept trying to tear down the fence with his massive paws (爪子).I radioed the camp manager for help. He told me a helicopter was on its way, but it would be 30 minutes before it arrived. Making the best of this close encounter(相遇), I took some pictures of the bear.Elli and I feared the fence wouldn’t last through 30 more minutes of the bear’s punishment. The camp manager suggested I use pepper spray. Thespray burns the bears’ eyes, but doesn’t hurt them. So I approached our uninvited guest slowly and, through the fence, sprayed him in the face. With an angry roar(吼叫), the bear ran to the lake to wash his eyes.

I met Gunter on a cold, wet and unforgettable evening in September. I had planned to fly to Vienna and take a bus to Prague for a conference. Due to a big storm, my flight had been delayed by an hour and a half. I touched down in Vienna just 30 minutes before the departure of the last bus to Prague. The moment I got off the plane, I ran like crazy through the airport building and jumped into the first taxi on the rank without a second thought. That was when I met Gunter. I told him where I was going, but he said he hadn't heard of the bus station. I thought my pronunciation was the problem, so I explained again more slowly, but he still looked confused. When I was about to give up, Gunter fished out his little phone and rang up a friend. After a heated discussion that lasted for what seemed like a century, Gunter put his phone down and started the car. Finally, with just two minutes to spare we rolled into the bus station. Thankfully, there was a long queue (队列) still waiting to board the bus. Gunter parked the taxi behind the bus, turned around, and looked at me with a bigsmile on his face. "We made it," he said.Just then I realised that I had zero cash in my wallet. I flashed him an apologetic smile as I pulled out my Portuguese bankcard. He tried it several times, but the card machine just did not play along. A feeling of helplessness washed over me as I saw the bus queue thinning out.At this moment, Gunter pointed towards the waiting hall of the bus station. There, at the entrance, was a cash machine. I jumped out of the car, made a mad run for the machine, and popped my card in, only to read the message: "Out of order. Sorry."

It was such a memorable experience, and I can't wait to tell you all about it!So, the exam started with a reading section, and let me tell you, those passages were no joke. But luckily, I had studied hard and was able to answer all the questions without too much trouble. The questions were tricky, but I remembered to read each passage carefully and underline the key points to help me find the answers.Next up was the writing section, and I decided to write about my favorite hobby – playing soccer. I wrote about how soccer helps me stay active and healthy, and how it brings me closer to my friends. I made sure to use lots of descriptive language and to check my grammar and spelling carefully. After the writing section, there was a listening test. I was a bit nervous about this part because sometimes the recordings can be a bit fast. But I listened carefully and was able to answer all the questions correctly. Phew! Finally, the speaking test. This was probably the most nerve-wracking part of the exam for me. I had to talk about a topic for two minutes straight, without any notes. I chose to talk about my dream of traveling around the world, and I spoke about all the places I wanted to visit and why. I also answered some questions from the examiner about my travel plans. It was tough, but I tried my best to speak clearly and confidently. And that was it! The exam was over, and I felt a mix of relief and excitement. I was proud of myself for getting through it, and I hoped that my hard work would pay off. Now, I just have to wait for the results to come out. I'm keeping my fingers crossed and hoping for the best. I mean, how cool is that? I came up with this epic tale about a cat who became the king of all the animals in the forest. It was so much fun to write! After that, we had the listening section. They played all these recordings of people speaking in English and we had to answer questions about what they said. I have to admit, some of the accents were really hard to understand. One of the major headaches for her was finding her way in the huge school building. It was a sixstory building. On each floor, hallways stretched in four directions, leading to classrooms, laboratories, and teachers’ offices. Somewhere in the building, there was also a library, a cafeteria, and a gym.Having a poor sense of direction, Eva found it impossible to get around in such a huge building. All the different hallways and rooms were too much to think about, let alone mit to memory. She decided that she would memorize where her classes were and then pretend that the rest of the place didn’t exist. In her fast P.E. class, Eva was shocked when Coach Pitt announced that everyone had to run one mile around the track outside. She searched the faces of her classmates for signs of panic. There was nothing she feared more than having to run a whole mile.To Eva, “a mile” was used to describe long distances. It was ten miles from her home to her grandfather’s, and that always seemed like a long way, even in a car! When Coach Pitt blew his whistle (哨子),Eva figured she would be left in the dust. However, w hile some of her classmates edged ahead, others actually fell behind. “It’s just the beginning,” she thought. “I’ll e in last for sure.”Soon Eva began to breathe hard, with her heart pounding and legs shaking. Feeling desperate, Eva started using a mind wick on herself. She stopped thinking about the word “mile.” Instead, she focused on reaching the shadow east on the track by an oak tree up ahead. Then she concentrated on jogging to the spot where the track curved (拐弯). After that, she tried to see if she could plete her first lap. One lap turned into two, then three, then four.Paragraph1:When Coach Pitt said “Nice work!” to her at the finish line, Eva was surprised._______________________________________________________________________________ _______________________________________________________________________________ _______________________________________________________________________________ Paragraph2:Eva decided to use the same trick to deal with the school building._______________________________________________________________________________ _______________________________________________________________________________ _______________________________________________________________________________When Coach Pitt said “Nice work!” to her at the finish line, Eva was surprised. In the vast expanse of her school, a girl with poor directional skills struggled to navigate and often got lost. One day, during gym class, she observed a unique way to find her way following the shadows of trees. As the sun cast its rays, the girl noticed how the shadows created patterns on the ground, guiding her path. She took a leap of faith and followed the shadows, surprising herself with each turn and stretch. Her efforts were noticed by the teacher, who praised her innovative thinking.Eva decided to use the same trick to deal with the school building. She used the shadows to navigate the school hallways, find her classes, and even locate the school's various facilities. This newfound skill not only helped the girl navigate her school but also instilled in her a sense of confidence and adventure. She learned excitedly that with a little creativity and observation, any challenge could be overe. And with each step she too k, she left behind a legacy of inspiration for those who followed in her footsteps, knowing that even without a clear sense of direction, there's always a way to find one's way.【解析】【导语】本文以人物为线索展开,讲述了高中生Eva因为方向感不强,经常在学校里迷路,在一次体育课上教练要求他们沿着校园跑步的时候Eva发现跟着树的影子能找到方向,她通过这个方法重新认识到了校园。
