Survey results from a recent business publication reveal a portrait of the typical successful American entrepreneur.
Family
Typically from a family that cherishes its ethnic identity even as it celebrates its American nationality. A language other than English is often spoken at home, and many times the family is in the U.S. for two generations or fewer.
Leadership
Not as important as you might think. While natural leaders may do well in corporate ranks, they are less well represented in the ranks of entrepreneurs. In fact, one skill of an entrepreneur may be the ability to delegate management to those with innate leadership ability.
Failure
While working 18-hour days is often a requisite for entrepreneurs, even more important is courage. Stories of all the great entrepreneurs indicate the importance of taking risks to achieve success. What is less well-known are the multiple failures that occur for every success. In fact, according to many respondents, failure itself is a requirement for success. As one founder of a successful technology company once said, “Having failures on your resume isn't a source of shame. It's your experience, proof that you've been in the trenches, learned the hard lessons. If you've never failed, how do you know what you're doing to achieve success?”
Education
While education may be a family virtue, it's typically less prized by the entrepreneur. MoBiblioteka Baidut don't have advanced degrees—many don't even have a B.A.
