Museums in New York City

Alice Austen House Museum

This museum recalls the world of an exceptional woman, Alice Austen. Austen's Victorian cottage-style home, with an amazing view of New York Harbor, displays prints from large collection of her work that describe turn-of-the-century American life. The City bought the Austen house in 1 975 and restored it. The Victorian garden was replanted according to Austen's photographs.

Schomburg Center

Schomburg Center is a national research library devoted to collecting, preserving and providing access to resources documenting the experiences of peoples of African descent.Its collections first won international applause in 1926 because of Puerto Rican-born scholar Arturo Altonso Schomburg. Renamed in his honor in 1940, the collection grew steadily through the years.
