Outsider Art
Outsider Art is a term used to describe art that is made by people who choose to live and work outside society. The artists who produce this kind of art-Outsider Artists-work in isolation from other artists and have little or no formal artistic training. Because they do not learn conventional artistic techniques from teachers or other artists. Outsider Artists must invent their own ways of doing things. As a result of the unconventional methods that Outsider Artists often use, their work can look strange and not at all like traditional art to the observer.
Task 1: Independent Speaking Favorite Place.Hey there! When it comes to my favorite place, it's gotta be the beach. Now, I know some people might be like, "Oh, the beach? That's so cliché." But hear me out!First off, the beach is like a natural stress reliever. Picture this: you've had a crazy week at work or school, dealing with all kinds of deadlines and drama. You get to the beach, and the second you step ontothat sandy shore, you just feel all that tension melting away. The sound of the waves crashing, it's like nature's own white noise machine, drowning out all the chaos in your head. And then there's the sun! I mean, who doesn't love a good dose of vitamin D? Lying on a beach towel, soaking up the rays, feeling that warm glow on your skin... it's like a mini vacation from reality. And if you're feeling adventurous, you can take a dip in the ocean. The water might be a bit chilly at first, but once you're in, it's so refreshing. It's like doing a big, refreshing body wash for your whole self!Another thing I love about the beach is the people-watching. You seeall kinds of characters down there. There's the family with the little kids building sandcastles, the surf dudes showing off their skills (and sometimes wiping out in the most hilarious ways), and the old couples taking a romantic stroll along the shore. It's like a little slice of life, and it's just so entertaining.Plus, there's always food! You can't go to the beach without having some classic beach snacks. Ice cream cones, hot dogs, popcorn... it's likea food lover's paradise. And if you're lucky, there might be a local food truck selling some delicious, unique treats. So, yeah, the beach is my favorite place. It's where I go to unwind, have fun, and just enjoy the simple things in life. What's not to love?Task 2: Independent Speaking Agree or Disagree: Students should be required to take a year off before starting college.Well, I definitely disagree with the idea that students should be required to take a year off before starting college. I mean, come on,that's just asking for trouble! For one thing, students have been in the learning groove for like their whole lives up until that point. They've got all this momentum going, and taking a year off could completely throw them off track. It's like running a race and suddenly stopping for a whole year. By the time they get back into the swing of things, they might have forgotten a lot of what they learned in high school. And trust me, college is no joke. You need to be on your A-game from day one.Another reason is that a year off can be really distracting. What are students supposed to do during that year? Some might end up getting involved in things that aren't so productive. They might get a job that's not related to their future studies and end up losing focus on their academic goals. Or worse, they might get into some bad habits or get too comfortable with a laid-back lifestyle and then have a hard time adjusting to the more rigorous college life. And let's not forget about the financial aspect. College is already expensive enough, and taking a year off means an extra year of living expenses without the potential income from a part-time job or scholarshipthat you could be getting in college. It's just not practical for a lot of students and their families.Sure, some students might benefit from taking a year off to travel or do some volunteer work and gain some life experience. But that should be a personal choice, not a requirement. Every student is different, and some are ready to jump right into college after high school. So, in my opinion, making it mandatory for everyone to take a year off is just a bad idea.Task 3: Integrated Speaking Campus Announcement.Hey, so I just heard this announcement about a new policy on campus, and let me break it down for you.Basically, the school is going to start implementing a new recycling program. They want to make the campus more environmentally friendly, which is a great idea, right? I mean, we all should be doing our part to save the planet.According to the announcement, they're going to set up more recycling bins around campus. So instead of just having one or two bins here and there, there'll be bins for different types of recyclables like paper, plastic, and glass in every building and even in some of the outdoor areas. That way, it'll be a lot easier for students and faculty to recycle their stuff. They're also going to have some educational campaigns to teach everyone about the importance of recycling and how to properly sort the recyclables.I think this is really cool because a lot of people don't actually know what can and can't be recycled. So having these campaigns will help raise awareness and make sure we're all doing it right. Now, in the conversation, the two students had some different opinions about this. The guy thought it was a great idea. He said it'll make the campus look nicer and cleaner, and he's all for doing something good for the environment. He also thought the educational campaigns would be helpful because he admitted that he wasn't always sure what to recycle. But the girl wasn't so sure. She was worried that it would be a hassle to have to remember to sort all her trash into different bins. She saidshe's always in a rush between classes and doesn't have time to be super careful about separating her paper from her plastic. And she was also a bit skeptical about how effective the educational campaigns would be. She thought a lot of people might just ignore them.Personally, I think it's a good policy overall. Yeah, it might take a little getting used to at first, but in the long run, it'll be worth it for the environment. And I hope the educational campaigns will actually work and make it easier for everyone to recycle.Task 4: Integrated Speaking Lecture on Animal Communication.Okay, so in the lecture, the professor was talking about animal communication, and it was really fascinating. He started off by saying that animals have all these different ways of communicating with each other, and it's not just about making sounds like we might think. One of the main ways he talked about was through body language. For example, he mentioned bees. Bees use a special kind of body language called the "waggle dance" to tell other bees where to find food. It's like they're doing their own little dance party, but it actually has a really important purpose. When a bee finds a good source of nectar, it'llcome back to the hive and do this waggle dance. The direction and speed of the dance tell the other bees the direction and distance of the food source. It's like they have their own secret code that only bees can understand.Another example he gave was about dogs. Dogs use their body language to show different emotions and intentions. If a dog's tail is wagging and its ears are up, it usually means it's happy and friendly. But if its tail is between its legs and its ears are down, it might be scared or submissive. So, just by looking at a dog's body posture, you can kind of figure out how it's feeling. The professor also talked about how some animals use chemical signalsto communicate. He mentioned ants as an example. Ants leave pheromonetrails to mark the path to food. It's like they're leaving little breadcrumbs for their ant buddies to follow. So, when one ant finds food,it leaves a trail of these chemicals, and the other ants can follow thetrail right to the food source. In conclusion, animal communication is way more complex than we might think. They have all these cool ways of getting messages across to each other, whether it's through body language or chemical signals. It's like they have their own little world of communication that we're just startingto understand.Task 5: Integrated Speaking Problem and Solutions. So, the problem in this conversation is that the girl has a big project due in her history class, but she also has to work a shift at her part-time job on the same day. She's really stressed out because she doesn't want to miss work, but she also can't afford to mess up her project. The first solution they come up with is for her to ask her boss if she can switch shifts with someone else. That way, she can work on her project without having to worry about missing work. The advantage of this is that she won't lose any money from not working, and she'll be able to focus on her project. But the downside is that her boss might not be too happy about her asking to switch shifts, especially if there's no one else available to cover her shift. The second solution is for her to try to work on her project during her break at work. She could bring her notes and books with her and use her break time to do some research and writing. The good thing about this isthat she doesn't have to ask her boss for anything, and she can still get some work done on her project. However, the problem is that her break might not be long enough for her to get a lot done, and it might be hard to concentrate with all the noise and distractions at work.If I were her, I'd probably go with the first option. I mean, it'sbetter to ask her boss and see if there's a possibility of switching shifts. If it doesn't work out, then she can always try the second option as a backup. But it's worth a shot to see if she can get the shift switched and avoid having to juggle both things at the same time.Task 6: Integrated Speaking Summary of Lecture on the Benefits of Teamwork.Alright, so in this lecture, the professor was talking about thebenefits of teamwork, and he had some really interesting points.First of all, he said that teamwork can lead to better problem-solving. When people work in a team, they bring different perspectives and ideas to the table. It's like a big brainstorming session. For example, if a team is working on a design project, one person might be really good at coming upwith creative concepts, while another person might be great at thetechnical details. By working together, they can combine their strengthsand come up with a better solution than if they were working alone.Another benefit he mentioned was increased efficiency. In a team, people can divide up the tasks according to their skills and expertise. So instead of one person trying to do everything, each person can focus onwhat they're good at. This means that the work gets done faster and more accurately. He used the example of a construction project. The carpenters can focus on building the structure, the electricians can handle the wiring, and the plumbers can take care of the plumbing. By working together like this, the project can be completed more efficiently. The professor also talked about how teamwork can improve morale. When people work in a team, they feel like they're part of something bigger. They support each other and celebrate each other's successes. It creates a positive work environment where everyone feels motivated to do their best. He gave the example of a sports team. When the team wins a game, everyone feels proud and excited. That kind of camaraderie and teamwork spirit can really boost morale. In summary, teamwork has a lot of benefits. It helps with problem-solving, increases efficiency, and improves morale. So, whether it's in the workplace, school, or any other setting, working in a team can lead tobetter results.。

1. Talk about an interesting book you have read. Explain why you thought the book was interesting. Give specific details and examples to explain your answer.Recently, I read an interesting novel named “Keep the aspidistra flying” which is written by George Orwell. I think it’s very interesting because in the story the main character’s experience is similar to mine. The main character wants to be a poet while I want to be a writer. He abandoned his well-paying job for his dream and I also quit my job for my dream. He had a time when he was impoverished and I also experienced a time when I couldn’t afford a lunch. He lives in a society where money talks and I live in a society where money is everything. So these similar experiences make me think the book interesting.2.Some people think that children should be allowed to watch whatever television programs they choose to. Others think that parents should exercise control over the television programs their children watch. Which do you agree with? Explain why.I think parents should exercise control over the television programs their children watch. It’s a way of protection, since many shows are full ofviolent or horrifying scenes. But children are not mature enough to bear those scenes so they may feel terrified. Take myself as an example, When I was 7-year-old, I was watching TV alone at home. I accidentally ran into a horror movie and was frightened by the horrible zombies in the movie. They eat human beings and tear bodies into pieces. I was shocked by the bloody scenes. From then on, I started to be afraid of darkness. Every time I walked along the street in the evening, I would feel a zombie following me. I didn’t get rid of the bad influence from that movie until high school.3. The woman expresses her opinion about the university' s plan. State her opinion and explain the reasons she gives for holding that opinion. The college is planning to renovate the dormitories in order to attract more students to remain on campus. The woman thinks the plan is a mistake. The woman says that the constructions will create too much noise and will constantly disturb students who are now living on campus. So it’s possible that more students will choose to live off-campus. She also says that the new campus housing is going to cost more because the college plans to use the students’ housing fees to pay for the renovations. So students won’t be able to afford to live on campus. They may still choose to rent an apartment off-campus. So the college may not achieve its goal to attract more students to remain on campus.
Task 1: Talk about an interesting school activity that you participated in recently. Give details and examples in your response. An interesting school activity I recently participated in was volunteer teaching. We went to a small, under-developed village that’s far from the city. Students from my school split into groups to teach the kids different classes. I was assigned to teach them English. I taught them some basic greeting skills which they thought was fun. During class breaks, all of us gathered outside to play sports of our choice. Some kicked around a soccer ball, some played the badminton and some played pingpong. Everyone had a blast. Before we left, we made some donations to the school. People donated money, books and school supplies. I would love to go back and visit the kids soon.Task 2: Some people prefer to buy innovative high-tech products like cellphones and computers when they first came out, others would buy them after the price has been decreased. Which do you prefer? Explain why. I prefer to buy my high-tech products long after they’re first introduced for the following reasons. First, products like cellphone and computers are usually very expensive when they are first introduced to the market. When iPhone first came out, the prices were really high. But it was only about three months later, Apple cut the price by around $200. Not buying these product too soon can save us lots ofmoney. Second, the first batch of product can be flowed. It’s wise to wait for reviews to come out so we can find out if they work as advertised. If there are problems, company will iron out these glitches and make it better.

TPO11TASK2Some people think that children should be allowed towatch whatever television programs they choose to. Othersthink that parents should exercise control over thetelevision programs their children watch. Which do you agree with? Explain why.
I think that parents should exercise control over the television programs their children watch for the following reasons. (在文章的第一段表明了自己的观点,认为家长应该限制孩子们看电视节目)First of all, not all TV programs today are suitable for younger viewers.(用first of all引出了第一个支撑自己观点的论点,并不是所有的电视节目都适合小孩观看) For example, some TV programs have sexual and violent content that would have a negative influence on childr en; it’d be a good idea for parents to filter out these kinds of programs for children. Second, parents should encourage children to watch more educational programs. Such as the programs you get from the Discovery Channel. Kids can learn a lot and have a great time watching them.。
Well, the professor in the lecture talks about two ways that animals use to protect their young from predators. The first way is by building some sort of physical barriers. For example, there's this bird, let's call it the bowerbird. The male bowerbird builds this really elaborate nest. It's not just a simple little place for the eggs. It's like a super protected fortress. He uses all kinds of twigs and stuff to build this big structure. And it has like little walls and passages. It's really hard for other animals, like snakes or small mammals that might want to eat the eggs or the baby birds, to get in. It's like the bowerbird is building a mini castle for its family. The second way is by using distraction. Take the mother duck, for instance. When a predator comes near her little ducklings, she doesn't just stand there and fight. Oh no. She starts to pretend that she has a broken wing. She flaps one wing in this really odd way and kind of stumbles around as if she can't fly properly. So, the predator, like a fox or something, gets all interested in her. It thinks, "Hey, here's an easy target." And it starts to chase the mother duck. Meanwhile, the mother duck is leading the predator away from her precious ducklings.
Task 1:A friend of yours is looking for a new place to live and has asked for your advice. What do you think is the most important characteristic of a good neighborhood? Use details and examples to explain your answer.Being quietSuggestion—not in CBD, in the middle of a residenceConvenientSuggestion—get to bus stop/subway station within 10minutes托福TPO口语答案Being quiet—cuz home is the place to relax our nerves and enjoy peace with families—so the apartment should not be around CBD where there are crowded traffic and a high flow of people which would be noisy.Convenient—cuz in a capital city like Beijing ,taking public transportation is more efficient than driving private cars—so living in a block where you can walk to the bus stop or supermarket within 10 minutes would be admirable. Although the rent/price is higher, it's worthwhile. Task 2:Do you agree or disagree with the following statement?Parents should be involved in the process of helping their children to choose a career.Use specific examples and details to support your opinion.A: should be involvedParents are mature & experienced same situation, advice is practicalChildren are confusedB: should not be involvedKids are individuals with own dreams, shouldn't push /forceParents situation was different ,kind of out of touch with current world托福TPO口语答案Parents are people who know their kids more than others. Since they have experienced the situation of making a career decision and are more realistic with knowledge about working &socializing in a company, the advice from them is usually practical, like they know which field is less competitive and suitable for their pure kids. Most people at the age of choosing a career are not truly clear about their future, like it's such a pain in the neck for my cousin and his classmates. Children are all individuals with their own dreams and plans for their future .they have the right todecide whether to be a doctor or a cleaner. If parents are too authoritarian and push their ideas to kids, the relationship between them will be deadlocked and even cause hurt to the teenagers. Although parents might have experience based on their situation, yet their sons or daughtes'problems are totally different. So their advice are somewhat inappropriate cuz they're kind of out of touch with current world's development.托福TPO口语答案分析建议:university should schedule construction projects to take place during the summer break1) construction projects are disruptive & they create inconveniences2) be completed quickly in summer when the weather is usually good.女同意All for it1) Woman drive, last December repairing parking lots, students who drive to school need to circle around and park on street and walk to classroom, late; even professor late2) Took long cuz snow storms, keep stopping for a week or twoEric proposes that university should schedule construction projects to take place during the summer break as they create inconveniences and could be completed quickly in summer when the weather is usually good. The woman in the conversation totally supports it. Cuz last December when the parking lot was repaired, parking were really inconvenient ,like most students including her and teachers who drive to campus needed to park cars on streets and walk to classes which made them late for class. Also the reason why the lots repairing took too long was there were bunches of snow storms which caused the projects kept stopping from time to time. Supposed to start driving to see movie in town with Amy 15mins ago, amy hasn't show up,worried may miss beginning解决方案1:Go by herself, leave a voice mail解决方案2:Wait another 10 mins since Amy's often late负面评价:Miss the beginningThe woman has waited amy for 15minutes to see a movie in town , but she hasn't shown up even didn't response any of the calls or voice messages. The first solution is that she could go by herself and leave a voice to her. The second solution is to wait another 10 min since Amy ‘s often late.I personally prefer the first solution. Because firstly, there is only chance that she sees the movie before it's discussed on class and she has other work to do and it's amy's fault not arriving on time . Even if amy would miss it, she still has another chance the second day and she will understand the speaker. Emotional intelligence helps people to behave appropriately in social situations, which allows them to maintain good relationships with others例子:His daughter Watch a movie with a friend, then argue what to watch, she upset—realize not appropriate not upset about friend but the summer job with kids cuz no work with them and wanna do well—apologyze, explain ---friend encourage—relax, funEmotional intelligence helps people to behave appropriately in social situations, which allows them to maintain good relationships with others. The professor told an example of his daughter who was watching a movie with her friend. They argued about what to watch got upset. The she realized that her reaction was not appropriate and also she was not really upset about her friend but her summer job with kids cuz she hadn't worked with them before and wanted to do well. Then she apologized to her and explained her reason. Her friend encouraged her which made her relaxed and then had fun together. When we humans walk from place to place, we move on the Earth's surface, across the Earth's surface. Many animals of course, do the same thing, horses and dogs and cows and so on, all move on the surface, across the surface of the Earth. But there are also quite a few animals that have the ability to move from place to place underground, beneath the Earth's surface. This moving around underground is known as subsurface locomotion. Subsurface locomotion has a number of benefits. One benefit of subsurface locomotion is that it enables animals to minimize their exposure to extreme temperatures. This is very helpful for animals that live in areas with harsh climates, where it could be very dangerous to spend large amounts of time on the surface. For example, in the Sahara desert in Africa, there's a type of lizard that's able to move beneath the surface, through the sand very quickly. Because this lizard can move so easily and so quickly underground, it doesn't have to travel on the surface, where it would be exposed to dangerously high temperatures. Another benefit of subsurface locomotion is that it can help animals capture prey. That's because animals on the surface can't see predators that are approaching underground. Our lizard in the Sahara desert is again a good example. The way it works is, when an insect is walking nearby on the surface, it produces very subtle vibrations in the sand. When the lizard senses these vibrations, it moves very quickly underground where it can't be seen towards the source of the vibrations. It then suddenly pops up right under the insect and catches it completely by surprise.托福TPO口语答案分析总括:Subsurface locomotion –animals move beneath earth, benefits观点1:Enable animals minimize exposure to extreme temperature, avoid harsh climate.例子1:Saharan desert lizard, quickly, not on surface with high temperature观点2:Capture prey, cuz animals on surface can't see them例子2:Saharan Lizard ,insect walk and produce vibration ,lizard sense ,move quickly, catch by surpriseSubsurface locomotion is the ability that animals can move beneath earth and it has two benefits .One benefit is that it enables animals to minimize exposure to extreme temperature, avoiding harsh climate. Like the Saharan desert lizard because it could move quickly and doesn't walk on surface it avoided the high temperature. The other benefit is it helps animals capture prey cuz animals on surface can't see them. Still like Saharan Lizard sense vibration produced by insects walking in sand, the lizard could move quickly to them and catch them by surprise.
