In the international trade, complaints and claims often happens because of shortage of quantity, the delivery of wrong goods, the delivery of damaged or defective merchandise or delay of delivery and improper packing, etc. After receiving the complaints or claims, the seller will make immediate investigations and settle the problem as soon as possible. That is called the adjustment.

2. Types of Agents
There are mainly two types of agents: general agents and sole or exclusive agents. A general agent may be a firm or a person who acts under instructions from his principal to sell or buy on the best terms obtainable. He charges a commission for his services under certain agreement or contract. A sole agent may be a firm or a person who acts for his foreign principal with exclusive agent rights to sell in a certain area on a commission basis certain commodities supplied by the principal under some agreement. The sole agent will not sell other goods that compete with the principal’s, and for a general agency there is no such undertaking.

索赔时，应根据事实和有关证明分清责任，向责任方、轮 船公司(Shipping Company)或保险公司(Insurance Company) 提出索赔；理赔时，应根据事实和有关证明，该赔则赔， 不该赔则拒绝赔偿。在国际贸易业务中，当因进口方拒开 或迟开信用证、不按时派船或无理毁约而致使出口方遭受 损失时，就会发生出口方向进口方索赔的情况。更为常见 的情况是进口方向出口方提出索赔。例如，当进口方在收 货时发现货物破损或者货物的质量不符合合同规定要求等 问题时，进口方就会向出口方提出索赔。
