ADVICE TO NEW WRITERS
New writers should realize that writing is a craft that one learns through practice. Very few writers succeed at first. Writing courses can be useful and input from peers through a writing group is invaluable, as a way of learning and as a support group. Beginners must not be upset by rejections. Even experienced writers still get these.
• Read the first paragraph or two in its entirety at the fastest average rate to grasp the idea of the story, the setting, a little of the author’s style.
• Avoid the details in order to maintain the maximum skimming speed.

Structure of the Text

• Move your eyes quickly over the third or fourth paragraph for the key sentence, picking up one or two important words, phrases, or numbers.
• Attempt to get the main idea of every paragraph plus a few facts.

It doesn’t work to say, "I'll write when I have the time." That doesn't happen. A writer must be self-motivated because you have to make yourself write, even if you don't particularly want then.
