Why Chinese Y ong People Are Increasingly Interested in Western Festivals

Nowadays, some western festivals mean much to our Chinese young people. It's

widely celebrated in a variety of ways. What's the reason caused this phenomenon? People wondered as many of our young generations know little and show less interest in our traditional festivals.

In terms of those western festivals itself, they carried their own country's important history and is full of meaning, which makes those festivals really attractive to our curious young Chinese. Besides, while some of those popular western festivals have their religious celebrations, they also offer an easy way to celebrate them by holding parties, sending cards or gifts which let our young people have fun and have a close relationship with our friends.

As to our Chinese young people, there are several reasons for us to prefer western festivals. First, in the past, people could only get to know about western festivals by books, movies, but at present, the promotion of our country's basic policy---reform and opening up makes a soft atmosphere for our young Chinese people to get in touch with the western festivals closely. For instance, we have many foreign teachers in our campus, so we can celebrate those festivals with them.

Second, our young Chinese people lived in a special period ----the popularization of computer, which offered a convenient way for us to know about those western festivals. We can look up information about it from the Internet, and chat with people who lived in those foreign countries face to face by BBS or QQ.

Moreover, since we all know that many Chinese young people prefer fashion than tradition, many businessmen grasp this good chance to promote their goods. They add some of their consumers with western festivals' elements to catch our young people's attention. And this makes celebrating western festivals b ecomes a fashion and businessman’s strategy just fit our young Chinese people’s favor. Nowadays, even college students consider those western festivals as a good chance to earn money. I still remembered that many students in our campus sold decorated apples during the Christmas Day, for it is a tradition that eating apples in those days will bring you good luck in western world.

In a word, no matter concerned with those western festivals’ character and historical background, or Chinese society and our Chine se young people’s pursuit for new things and fashion, it is natural for our Chinese young people to fond in the western festivals.
