英语翻译三级笔译实务真题2015年11月及答案解析

英语翻译三级笔译实务真题2015年11月及答案解析(1/1)Section ⅠEnglish Chinese TranslationTranslate the following two passages into Chinese .第1题The Republic of Ireland is a sovereign state in Western Europe, occupying about five-sixths of the island of Ireland. The capital and largest city is Dublin, whose metropolitan area is home to around a third of the country’s 4.6 million inhabitants. The state shares its only land border with Northern Ireland. It is a unitary, parliamentary republic with an elected president serving as head of state. The head of government is nominated by the lower house of parliament.Following the Irish War of Independence and the subsequent Anglo-Irish Treaty, Ireland gained independence from the United Kingdom in 1922. Initially a dominion, Ireland received official British recognition of full legislative independence in the Statute of Westminster of 1931. A new constitution was adopted in 1937, by which the name of the state became “Ireland.” In 1949, Ireland was declared a republic under the Republic of Ireland act 1948.Ireland ranks among the wealthiest countries in the world in terms of GDP per capita. In 1973, Ireland enacted a series of liberal economic policies that resulted in rapid economic growth, coupled with a dramatic rise in inequality. The country achieved considerable prosperity from 1995 to 2007. This was halted by an unprecedented financial crisis that began in 2008, in conjunction with the concurrent global economic crash. In 2011 and 2013 Ireland was ranked as the seventh-most developed country in the world by the United Nations Human Development Index. It also performs well in several metrics of national performance, including freedom of the press, economic freedom and civil liberties. It pursues a policy of neutrality through non-alignment.The population of Ireland stood at 4,588,252 in 2011, an increase of 8.2 percent since 2006. As of 2011, Ireland had the highest birth rate in the European Union (16 births per 1,000 of population). In 2012, 35.1 percent of births were to unmarried women. Annual population growth rates exceeded 2 percent during the 2002-2006 period, which was attributed to high rates of natural increase and immigration. This rate declined somewhat during the subsequent 2006-2011 period, with an average growth rate of 1.6 percent.Ireland ranks fifth in the world in terms of gender equality. In 2011, Ireland was ranked the most charitable country in Europe, and second most charitable in the world. Contraception was controlled in Ireland until 1979, however, the receding influence of the Catholic Church has led to an increasingly secularized society . In 1983, the Eighth Amendment recognized “the right to life of the unborn”, subject to qualifications concerning the “equal right to life” of the mother. The passage of the Thirteenth and Fourteenth Amendments guarantees the right to have an abortion performed abroad, and the right to learn about “services” that are illegal in Ireland, but legal abroad. The prohibition on divorce in the 1937 Constitution was repealed in 1995 under the Fifteenth Amendment. Divorce rates in Ireland are very low compared to European Union averages while the marriage rate in Ireland is slightly above the European Union average. Capital punishment is constitutionally banned in Ireland, while discrimination based on age, gender, sexual orientation, marital or familial status, religion and race is illegal.Ireland became the first country in the world to introduce an environmental levy for plastic shopping bags in 2002 and a public smoking ban in 2004. Recycling in Ireland is carried out extensively and Ireland has the second highest rate of packaging recycling in the EuropeanUnion.___________下一题(1/1)Section ⅡChinese-English TranslationTranslate the following passage into English .第2题不冲突不对抗,是构建中美新型大国关系的必要前提。

第 1 页 共 3 页2015年河南省翻译竞赛试题 (专业组) I. Translate the Following Passage into Chinese (50 Points): The Mankind and the Earth The Book of Genesis is full of instances of Man being punished for his attempts to become like God – yet with the primacy of science, God's power is now increasingly being exercised by us. On a planetary scale, humans now assert unchallenged dominion over all living things. We have leveled forests, ploughed up the great grasslands and transformed the continents to serve our demands. The productive capacity of a major part of the planet's terrestrial surface is now dedicated to satisfying our demands for food, fuel and fiber, whilst the oceans are trawled around the clock for the fishy fats and proteins our brains and bodies demand. Human beings have, therefore, clearly been an unprecedented evolutionary success story. Yet there is a dark side to this momentous achievement. For the biosphere as a whole, the Age of Humans has been a catastrophe. Our domestication of the planet's surface to provide food and fuel has displaced all competing species to the margins. And the most amazing of all is how blissfully unaware of this colossal transformation we remain. Even most Greens – ever hopeful that vanished wild nature can one day be restored – still recoil from the real truth about our role. Climate-change deniers are successful partly because they tap intoa powerful culturalundercurrent that insists we are small and the planet is big, thereforenothing we do can have a planet-scale impact.True, we may not be able to stop earthquakes or tsunamis. But the overwhelming weight of scientific evidence suggests that we are fast approaching the point where our interference in the planet's great bio-geochemical cycles is threatening to endanger the system itself, and hence our own survival as a species.II. Translate the Following Passage into Array English (50 Points):自信与成功“有人可能觉得我这是自讨苦吃,甚至有人说你的荣誉多得一大把,不攻读什么学位,后半生照样可以过得不错,即使读学位也不必那么辛苦,甚至不妨找个‘枪手’代笔写论文。

2015年英语翻译考试中级笔译部分真题

2015年英语翻译考试中级笔译部分真题

Section 1: English-Chinese Translation(英译汉)(60 point) Part A Compulsory Translation (必译题) Until recently, scientists knew little about life in the deep sea, nor had they reason to believe that it was being threatened. Now, with the benefit of technology that allows for deeper exploration, researchers have uncovered a remarkable array of species inhabiting the ocean floor at depths of more than 660 feet, or about 200 meters. At the same time, however, technology has also enabled fishermen to reach far deeper than ever before, into areas where bottom trawls can destroy in minutes what has taken nature hundreds and in some cases thousands of years to build. Many of the world’s coral species, for example, are found at depths of more than 200 meters. It is also estimated that roughly half of the world’s highest seamounts — areas that rise from the ocean floor and are particularly rich in marine life —are also found in the deep ocean. These deep sea ecosystems provide shelter, spawning and breeding areas for fish and other creatures, as well as protection from strong currents and predators. Moreover, they are believed to harbor some of the most extensive reservoirs of life on earth, with estimates ranging from 500,000 to 100 million species inhabiting these largely unexplored and highly fragile ecosystems. Yet just as we are beginning to recognize the tremendous diversity of life in these areas, along with the potential benefits newly found species may hold for human society in the form of potential food products and new medicines, they are at risk of being lost forever. With enhanced ability both to identify where these species-rich areas are located and to trawl in deeper water than before, commercial fishing vessels are now beginning to reach down with nets the size of football fields, catching everything in their path while simultaneously crushing fragile corals and breaking up the delicate structure of reefs and seamounts that provide critical habitat to the countless species of fish and other marine life that inhabit the deep ocean floor. Because deep sea bottom trawling is a recent phenomenon, the damage that has been done is still limited. If steps are taken quickly to prevent this kind of destructive activity from occurring on the high seas, the benefits both to the marine environment and to future generations are incalculable. And they far outweigh the short-term costs to the fishing industry. Part B Optional Translations (⼆选⼀题)(30 points) Topic 1 (选题⼀) Most of the world’s victims of AIDS live — and, at an alarming rate, die — in Africa. The number of people living with AIDS in Africa was estimated at 26.6 million in late 2003. New figures to be published by the United Nations Joint Program on AIDS (UNAIDS),the special UN agency set up to deal with the pandemic, will probably confirm its continued spread in Africa, but they will also show whether the rate of spread is constant, increasing or falling. AIDS is most prevalent in Eastern and Southern Africa, with South Africa, Zimbabwe and Kenya having the greatest numbers of sufferers; other countries severely affected include Botswana and Zambia. AIDS was raging in Eastern Africa —where it was called “slim”, after the appearance of victims wasting away — within a few years after its emergence was established in the eastern Congo basin; however, the conflicting theories about the origin of AIDS are highly controversial and politicized, and the controversy is far from being settled. Measures being taken all over Africa include, first of all, campaigns of public awareness and device, including advice to remain faithful to one sexual partner and to use condoms. The latter advice is widely ignored or resisted owing to natural and cultural aversion to condoms and to Christian and Muslim teaching, which places emphasis instead on self-restraint. An important part of anti- AIDS campaigns, whether organized by governments, nongovernmental organizations or both, is the extension of voluntary counseling and testing (VCT).In addition, medical research has found a way to help sufferers, though not to cure them.。

More recently American, Australian, Asian and other European cultures have exerted influence on New Zealand.New Zealand music has been influenced by blues, jazz, country, rock and roll and hip hop, with many of these genres given a unique New Zealand interpretation. Maori developed traditional chants and songs from their ancient South-East Asian origins, and after centuries of isolation created a unique “monotonous” and “doleful”sound. The number of New Zealand films significantly increased during the 1970s. In 1978 the New Zealand Film Commission started assisting local film-makers and many films attained a world audience, some receiving international acknowledgement.New Zealand television primarily broadcasts American and British programming, along with a large number of Australian and local shows. The country’s diverse scenery and compact size, plus government incentives, have encouraged some producers to film big budget movies in New Zealand. The Ministry for Culture and Heritage is government’s leading adviser on cultural matters. The Ministry funds, monitors and supports a range of cultural agencies and delivers a range of high-quality cultural products and services. The Ministry provides advice to government on where to focus its interventions in the cultural sector. It seeks to ensure that funding is invested as effectively and efficiently as possible, and that government priorities are met.The Ministry has a strong track record of delivering high-quality publications, managing significant heritage and commemorations, and acting as guardian of New Zealand’s culture. The Ministry’s work prioritizes cultural outcomes and also supports educational, economic and social outcomes, linking with the work of a range of other government agenciesPassage 2Along a rugged, wide North Sea beach here on a recent day, children formed teams of eight to 10, taking their places beside mounds of sand carefully cordoned by tape. They had one hour for their sand castle competition. Some built fishlike structures, complete with scales. Others spent their time on elaborate ditch and dike labyrinths. Each castle was adorned on top with a white flag. Then they watched the sea invade and devour their work, seeing whose castle could withstand the tide longest. The last standing flag won.Theirs was no ordinary day at the beach, but a newly minted, state-sanctioned competition for schoolchildren to raise awareness of the dangers of rising sea levels in a country of precarious geography that has provided lessons for the world about water management, but that fears that its next generation will grow complacent. Fifty-five percent of the Netherlands is either below sea level or heavily flood-prone. Yet thanks to its renowned expertise and large water management budget (about 1.25 percent of gross domestic product), the Netherlands has averted catastrophe since a flooding disaster in 1953.Experts here say that they now worry that the famed Dutch water management system actually works too well and that citizens will begin to take for granted the nation’s success in staying dry. As global climate change threatens to raise sea levels by as much as four feet by the end of the century, the authorities here are working to make real to children the forecasts that may seem far-off, but that will shape their lives in adulthood and old age.“Everything works so smoothly that people don’t realize anymore that they are taking a risk in developing urban areas in low-lying areas,” said Hafkenscheid, the lead organizer of the competition and a water expert with the Foreign Ministry. Before the competition, the children, ages 6 to 11, were coached by experts in dike building and water management. Volunteers stood by, many of them freshly graduated civil engineers, giving last-minute advice on how best to battle the rising water.A recently released report by the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development on water management in the Netherlands pointed to an “awareness gap”among Dutch citizens. The finding did much to get the sand castle contest off the ground.Section 2: Chinese-English Translation (50 points)Translate the following two passages into English.Passage 1改革开放30多年来,西藏通过深化改革和扩大开放积极推动全区商业、对外贸易和旅游产业加快发展,不仅增强了与内地的交流,同时也加强了与世界的联系和合作。

During nearly six hundred years, twenty-four emperors lived in and ruled from this palace. The Forbidden City is surrounded by 10-metre-high walls and a 52-meter-wide moat. Measuring 961 meters from north to south and 753 meters from east to west, it covers an area of 1110000 square meters. Each of the four sides is pierced by a gate: the Meridian Gate (Wu men) on the south, the Gate of Divine Prowess(Shenwu men) on the north, the Eastern and Western Prosperity Gates (Donghua men and Xihua men).Once inside, visitors will see a succession of halls and palaces spreading out on either side of an invisible central axis. The buildings‟ glowing yellow roofs levitating above vermilion walls is a magnificent sight. The painted ridges and carved beams all contribute to the sumptuous effect.Known as the Outer Court, the southern portion of the Forbidden City centers on three main halls -- Hall of Supreme Harmony (Taihedian),Hall of Central Harmony (Zhonghedian),and Hall of Preserving Harmony (Baohedian). It was here in the Outer Court that the emperor held court and conducted grand audiences. Mirroring this arrangement is the Inner Court comprising the northern portion of the Forbidden City. The Inner Court is comprised of not only the residences of the emperor and his consorts but also venues for religious rituals and administrative activities. In total, the buildings of the two courts account for an area of some 163000 square meters. These were precisely designed in accordance with a code of architectural hierarchy, which designated specific features to reflect the paramount authority and status of the emperor. No ordinary mortal would have been allowed or would even have dared to come within close proximity to these buildings. The Forbidden City, the culmination of the two-thousand-year development of classical Chinese and East Asianarchitecture, has been influential in the subsequent development of Chinese architecture, as well as providing inspiration for many artistic works. Questions66. Why was the Palace given the name as “The Forbidden City”?67. Who was the first emperor that lived in the Palace?68. How long is the Forbidden City?69. What is the total area of the Forbidden City?70. What is the main function of the Inner Court of the Forbidden City?Section D (10 marks) Questions 71-75 are based on the following passage.A ncient Greeks thought the brain wasn‟t the basis for intellect. It was the home for the soul. They believed that the process of thinking happened somewhere near lungs. The brain wasn‟t seen as an organ of intellect and thought until the 17th and 18th centuries. In order to measure intelligence, the IQ test, or the intelligence quotient test, was invented. The Standford-Binet Intelligence Scale was created in Paris in the early 1900s. The scale was used in Alfred Binet‟s efforts to educate children with learning difficulties. Those with scores less than their respective ages were considered mentally challenged. The MENSA IQ test has also become popular. A person who scores 150 or higher on this test is considered to have exceptional intelligence. More than 10,000 people take the test every year. Some see IQ tests as an assessment of an individual‟s problem-solving skills, rather than general intelligence. For example, an individual may have high analytical intelligence that is genetic. This widely held view promoted many prejudiced ideas. Since the IQ test was created from the point of view of Europeans, people of other races scored comparatively lower.Research suggests that intelligence depends on culture and class. Tests given by the U.S. military showed that blacks scored lower than whites. The difference in scores was attributed to class and education levels, not genetic factors. Black childrenadopted into wealthier families scored significantly higher than low-income blacks. Studies have shown that children who grow in a positive learning environment score higher on the IQ tests. Having good nutrition can also affect the scores.A new type of IQ test has surfaced later on. It's called the EI test, or the emotional intelligence test. The test gauges the individual‟s ability to manage his or her emotions. Developed by Daniel Goleman, the test also measures how much self-awareness an individual has. Knowledge and emotional intelligence are different, experts say. A person with high emotional intelligence is able to better understand the feelings of others. Thus, they are better maintaining various relationships. Lowemotional intelligence can affect intelligence. Studies have shown that emotional intelligence is connected with memory and concentration. Individuals with low emotional intelligence have more aggressiveness and less self-control. These factors can dramatically reduce IQ scores by as much as 25 percent.Questions 71-75 Complete the summary with only one word for each blank from the passage, changing the form where necessary.Since the early 1900s, scientists have attempted to gauge the intelligence of people. Alfred Binet‟s intelligence scale and the MENS IQ test have been used frequently over the past centuries in 71.________ intelligence. Some studies suggest that the tests aren‟t necessarily a flawless benchmark, arguing that it72._______ only a person‟s problem-solving skills. Others think that intelligence is73._______ and it varies among races. New findings point to culture, class, education levels and environment as more important intelligence predictors 74._______ genetics. A new test that measures the emotionalintelligence, the ability to monitor one‟s emotions, has emerged. Recent findings reveal that one‟s emotional intelligence can affect one‟s IQ test 75._______.Part V Translation (15 marks)Section A (5 marks) Translate the following paragraph into Chinese.76. Opera is an art that brings music, singing, and drama together on stage. The first operas were performed in Italy in the early 1600s. These operas were based on ancient Greek myths and accompanied by sim ple melodies. The early composers of opera called their work “drama through music” because they felt the music was the key to expressing an idea or emotion. Although the first operas were performed for the aristocracy, by the 1700s many operas were being performed for the public.Section B (10 marks) Translate the following sentences into English by using the hints given in brackets.77. 他在学校的表现还没有达到他父母的期望。

2015年翻译大赛本科组英语笔译试题

Part 1 Please translate the following passage into Chinese.India to outpace China as energy price falls lift world economy, IMF predictsThe global economy was more likely to enjoy a reasonable recovery over the next two years, benefiting from recent falls in energy prices and exchange rate movements, the International Monetary Fund said yesterday. The twice-yearly forecast shows India is expected to outperform China in growth for the first time in 16 years. The fund has recently told countries they ―could do better‖ to improve medium-term prospects, but the World Economic Outlook is the first since 2011 to suggest economies are putting the 2009 financial crisis behind them.Ahead of publication, Olivier Blanchard, the IMF’s chief economist, told the Financ ial Times: ―I sense the macro risks are smaller than in October — there is no reason for doom and gloom.‖The fund has documented divergent trends in economic performance across the world since October, with strength in the US and UK and greater weakness in the eurozone, China and Latin America. Inflation has fallen everywhere and the outlook for many emerging economies, with the important exception of India, has deteriorated.Despite this uneven progress in economic data, the fund said, the fall in energy prices would boost growth in oil-importing countries. It estimated that the full effect of falling oil prices would increase global output by 0.5 per cent to 1 per cent in 2016.The rise in the dollar and Chinese renminbi against the Japanese yen and the euro would help boost growth further, the IMF predicted. The appreciation of the US and Chinese currencies need not damage their growth prospects because these economies can keep interest rates lower for longer to offset any deterioration in their trade performance.Translating this assessment into hard numbers, the IMF forecasts 3.5 per cent global growth in 2015, up on the 3.4 per cent recorded last year and improving further to 3.8 per cent in 2016.The IMF expects China’s slowdown to continue, with growth of 6.8 per cent this year and 6.3 per cent in 2016, cons-iderably slower than India, which is exp-ected toexpand by 7.5 per cent in both years. The fund is more gloomy on medium-term growth prospects, noting that economies do not seem likely to return to growth rates that previously were considered normal. Ageing populations and weak productivity growth are set to lower rates of expansion.Part 2 Please translate the following paragraphs into English.实践是最好的裁判,比较最有说服力。

It was the perfect quote for such a momentous occasion. But from the moment he said it, people have argued about whether the NASA astronaut got his lines wrong.(61)___________________ In the tense six hours and forty minutes between landing on the Moon and stepping out of the capsule, Armstrong wrote what he knew would become some of the most memorable words in history.(62) __________________It would have been a more meaningful and grammatically correct sentence. Without the missing “a”, the inte nded meaning of the sentence is lost. In effect, the line means, “That’s one small step for mankind (or humanity), one giant leap for mankind.”(63) __________________Until his death Armstrong himself had never been sure if he actually said what he wrote. Suddenly he had a brilliant idea. He stopped the meeting and asked everyone present what would happen if Sony removed the recording function and speaker and sold headphone with a tape player instead. Almost everyone thought he was crazy. Still, Ibuka kept thinking about his idea and worked at refining it. The result, of course, turned out to be the wildly successful Sony Walkman.Good ideas often start with a really silly question. Bill Bowerman was breakfast onr day. As he stood there making waffles (华夫饼干) for his son, he wondered what would happen if he poured rubber into his waffle iron. Later, he tried it and the result looked something like the bottom of most sports shoes we see today. Still, when he took this .idea to several existing shoe companies, he was literally laughed at. In fact, every single company turned him down. Though rather discouraged, Bowerman persevered and went on to form his own company, making NIKE athletic shoes.Sometimes good ideas grow out of frustration. When Fred Smith was a student at Yale University, he had some paperwork that he needed to have delivered across the next day. Fred was amazed to find out that overnight delivery was impossible. He sat for a long while wondering why. Why couldn’t there be a reliable overnight mail delivery service? He decided to design one. Fred did that and turned his design into a class project. His business professor gave him only a “C” for his efforts. However, Fred was not through. He refined the idea inthat class project and eventually turned them into one of the first and most successful overnight mail services in the world-FedEx.We know today, of course, that each of these ideas led to an incredibly successful product or service that has changed the way many of us live. The best questions are usually open-ended and are often silly. Children aren’t afraid to ask such questions, but adults frequently are. Think how different the world might be if people never asked “silly” questions!Question 66-70Answer the following questions according to the passage.66. What was Ibuka doing when he thought of the brilliant idea?67. How did Sony Walkman come into being?68. How many examples are used to explain the theme of the passage? What are they?69. Why did Fred think of designing overnight delivery?70. What is the main idea of the passage?Section D (10 marks)Questions 71—75 are based on the following passage.Get Stressed, Stay YoungFor decades doctors have warned us about the dangers of stress and have given us advice about how to cut down our stress levels. Everyone agrees that long-term stress, for example, having to look after someone who has a chronic illness, or stressful situation where there is nothing we can do, or being stuck in a traffic jam, is badfor our health and should be avoided whenever possible. However, some medical experts now believe that certainkinds of stress may actually be good for us.Dr Marios Kyriazis, an anti-aging expert, claims thatwhat he calls “good stress” is beneficial to our health andmay, in fact, help us stay young and attractive and evenlive longer. Dr Kyriazis says that “good stress canstrengthen our natural defenses which protect ”us fromillnesses common among older people, such asAlzheimer’s, arthritis(关节炎), and heart problems. He believes that “good stress”can increase theproduction f the proteins that help tp repair the body’scells, including brain cells.According to Dr Kyriazis, running for a bus and havingto work to a deadline are examples of “god stress”, whichare situations with short-term, low or moderate stress. The stress usually makes us react quickly and efficiently, and give us a sense of achievement—we did it! However, in both these situations, the stress damages the cells in our body or brain and they start to break down. But then the cells’ own repair mechanism “switches on” and it produce proteins which repair the damages cells and remove harmful chemicals that can gradually cause disease. In fact, the body’ s response is greater than is needed to repair the damage, so it actually makes the cells stronger than they were before.“As the body gets older, this self-repair mechanism of the cells starts to slow down,” says Dr Kyriazis. “The best way to keep the process working efficiently is to ‘exercise’ it, in the same way you would exercise your muscles to keep them strong. This means having a certain amount of stress in our lives.Other stressful activities that Dr Kyriazis recommends as being good stress include redecorating a room in your house over a weekend, packing your suitcase in a hurry to reach the airport on time, shopping for a dinner party during your break or programming you DVD player by following the instruction manual.Question 71-75Complete the summary with a maximum of three words from the passage.Part V Translation (15 marks)Section A (5 marks)Translate the following sentences into Chinese. Translate the Following Passage into Chinese (50 Points): Silent Spring There was once a town in the heart of America where all life seemed to live in harmony with its surroundings. The town lay in the midst of prosperous farms, where, in spring, white clouds of bloom drifted above the green fields. In autumn, oak and maple and birch set up a blaze of color that flamed and flickered across a background of pines. Then foxes barked in the hills and deer silently crossed the fields. Even in winter the roadsides were places of beauty, where countless birds came to feed on the berries and on the seed heads of the dried weeds rising above the snow. Then some evil spell settled on the community: mysterious diseases swept the flocks of chickens; the cattle and sheep sickened and died. In the town the doctors became more and more puzzled by new kinds of sickness appearing among their patients. There had been several sudden and unexplained deaths, not only among adults but even among children. There was a strange stillness. It was a springwithout voices and sound; only silence lay over the fields, woods and marsh. What happened? As a matter of fact, no witchcraft, no enemy action had silenced the rebirth of all life in this stricken world. It was the people who had done it themselves.II. The idea is that Apple designers strive for simplicity just as Picasso eliminated details to create a great work of art.在苹果公司内部大学的一堂课上,讲师曾提到毕加索绘制名画《公牛》时的11 块石版画,他认为苹果打造智能手机等设备的过程与之类似。
