I love training with my husband Chris. We do our own exercises separately, but then we really enjoy spending 30-40 minutes doing something we both like together. I also train with my family—my brother, his wife and our cousins will come to our house every now and then to train together. It's like family fun time! A little bit of competition also makes us work out harder.
Laziness, as you know,is contagious(有传染性的). But so is enthusiasm. If you can get your partner on board, you will be able to encourage each other on those days when the other doesn't feel like moving. If you set yourself a challenge and add competition to the mix, I promise you that the training will be much more fun. Time will fly by and you’ll want to do it again.
This is why I wanted to learn Chris' favourite sport— surfing(冲浪). Not only would we have more things to do together, but it would be a great challenge for me. In turn, I have introduced Chris to two of my favourite activities: horse riding and motorbiking. Now he also loves them, which means we have even more chances to have fun together. Encouraged by our example, my brother and his wife now train together too. This is what it's all about at the end of the day: quality time with your partner.
What if you don't have a partner? Well, I'm sure you have a friend who would love to train with you. Or, if you have young children, why not train in the backyard with another parent while they play? You just need some music. The important thing is to have a plan and to make the time to do it. It will be much more fun than doing it on your own.

“We give our girls the power to believe in themselves, go to college, become tomorrow's leaders," says Felicia Gibson Jaycox, the founder(立者)and chief executive officer of The Power of You Teens(POYT). The organization is based in Harlem, a historic African-American neighborhood in New York City.
Founded in 2014,POYT offers educational chances and positive (正面的)role models for teenage girls growing up in Harlem. These "Power Girls" take part in dance, summer camp, and STEAM education (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Mathematics), among other programs. The purpose, according to the group, is to empower teenage girls to help them "dream big and to inspire(激励)them to achieve the most that they are capable of."
POYT held its sixth yearly Empowerment Event in the fall of 2019 in New York City. The theme of “Girl Boss” inspired girls to show their inner boss spirit. Miss Teen USA Kaliegh Garris was the keynote speaker.
Kaliegh said that she and other beauty competition winners are helping to reshape traditional images of beauty and showing that women of color are not just beautiful — they also are driven, wise women whom little girls can look up to.
I asked Ashley McFarlin Buie, POYT co-director, what inspired founder and CEO Felicia Gibson to start the organization. Gibson saw the plight that girls of color are in. For some historical reasons, many girls of color are growing up in terrible neighborhoods. They seldom see people themselves showed positively in movies, books, TV shows, and other media.
“Powerful girls grow up to be dependable and confident women, preparing for their futures as creative leaders,” Buie said. POYT centers on saving the mind, body, and spirit of Black girls through love and support, she added.
What do the girls get out of the group? “We offer chances,” Bui said,“to break barriers(屏障).”
23. What do we know about POYT?
A. It is run by teenage girls.
B. It was started about 6 years ago.

D. Encourage girls to set an example to others.
25. What does the underlined word" plight" in Paragraph 5 probably mean?
A. Sad feeling.

C. Bad situation.
D. Uncertain future.
26.What is the best title for this text?
A. Dream big
B. Power Girls
C. Teenage Power

The hike to the lost Incan city of Choquequirao is one of the most difficult in Peru. From the town of Cachora, which is 161 km west of Cusco, it's an 18km walk to Capuliyoc Mountain, then down to Playa Rosalina, where travellers camp for the night. Waking early, travellers then have to cross the Apurimac River and walk uphill to camp close to the ruins. Then, the next morning, it's another 2km walk up to the ruins, 3,100m above sea level. To get back? Well, it's the same way you came.
“I’ve had people in their 60s and 70s do it,” said Juan Barrios, a guide from the Adventure Life company. "But some people come out thinking that because it's only 28km from the drop off they can do it in a day. Six or seven days for the hike is best.
It makes sense, then, that Choquequirao draws only about 30 people a day during the high season (June through August). Compare that to the 2,500 people who arrive each day at the famous Incan city of Machu Picchu.
But for those who make the journey, the rewards(回报)are great: beautiful mountain views at every turn, and the chance to explore the wonderful ruins nearly alone.
Believed to be created around the same time as Machu Picchu, in 1445, Choquequirao is actually larger than better-known Machu Picchu. But very little has been written about Peru's other lost city and researchers are still uncovering new parts of the ruins, leaving life on the mountain relatively untouched.
But officials say that the building of the first cable car(缆车)to Choquequirao will shorten the several-day walk to a 15-minute cable car ride. As a result, the number of travellers that now make the journey each week could turn into 3,000 visitors per day.
Choquequirao is beautiful now because of how untouched it is. Even though the lost city was discovered by Spanish explorer Juan Arias Diaz in 1710, the ruins still make you feel as though you're the first to find them. Will it be the same when more travellers flood in(大量涌入)?
27. What does the first paragraph centre on?
A. How tall Choquequirao is.
B. How to get to Choquequirao easily.
C. What great views Choquequirao has.
D. How hard the trip to Choquequirao is.
28. In what way is Choquequirao different from Machu Picchu?
A. Choquequirao is older.
B. Choquequirao is quieter.
C. Choquequirao is smaller.
D.Choquequirao is better known.
29. How are the ruins of Choquequirao?
A. They’re still being dug out.
B. They’re in a generally poor condition.
C. They’re being renewed at the moment.
D. They’ve been researched internationally.
30. What does the author think of Choquequirao in the future?
A. It will be more attractive.
B. It will develop at a slow speed.
C. It won't necessarily take a turn for the better.
D. It won't be more popular than Machu Picchu.

At some point, everyone has the desire(渴望)to fit into a group. If you're interested in sports, you might hang out with those who like sports. 31 You feel comfortable when you are part of that group.
But what if people in your group start doing things that are wrong, hurtful, or even against the law? And what if these people are your friends?
32 It is the pressure(压力)to follow the behaviors, attitudes, and personal habits of the group. In many cases, there are serious risks involved(涉及).
You need to think about the risks ahead of time. 33 Could this harm me physically? Could this harm someone else? Is this against the law?
Now, let's lighten up. You can also use peer(同辈)pressure to your advantage. 34
For example, if you're active in sports, your teammates probably pressure you to be the best you can be. If you’re working hard for good grades, you compare your scores to those at the top of
the list. If you're in the band, and there are musicians better than you, you are pressured into trying to be the best musician you can be.
35 When faced with group invitations, think about the risks ahead of time. If you are uncomfortable doing something, don't be afraid to turn down the invitation with a "no, thanks." The choice is yours.
A. Think of it as competitive peer pressure.
B. This is what we refer to as peer pressure.
C. Most people have followed others in their teenage lives.
D. Consider these questions before you make up your mind.

Dear Cathy,
I am writing to tell you that I am taking a trip to Britain this summer holiday. I am so excited about it. As you are a local, I have some questions to ask you in order to make full preparations for my trip. It is said that the climate in Britain is different from that in China. I want to know how the weather will be during the summer holiday so that I can pack the right clothes with me. I also learn that there are many tourist destinations in Britain, such as Stonehenge and Big Ben. Can you recommend some other scenic spots to me? It would be better if you could tell me the Dos and Don'ts for visiting these places.
Last but not least, I am wondering whether you will be free to go on a holiday with me during the summer holiday. I hope you can be my guide and I am sure we will have a good time. Looking forward to your reply.
Yours, Li Hua
